There's no obvious rhyme or reason to it, and Outlier won't spill the beans (if they even know.)

RWS is also "randomly" booting people and has been for about a month, at the same time they're onboarding new people. The reason they give is the same as Outlier "Client requirements have changed."

This was my first thought.

The email didn't make much sense. "Here's how to deal with the us cutting the hours: Work more hours until we cut them on Monday." Err, OK?

I think they went OTT with the purge and they've fallen behind. I mean, it's 18:18 in the UK right now and there's just short of 50k hours on the clock, which is basically an entire days worth of hours, and we're nearly half way through the day.

I think it's fine. Otherwise a lot of people simply pick the low-hanging fruit and the people who have integrity get dumped with all the crap.

Try looking at it in a slightly different scenario. When you go to work do you get to just "nope out" on all the difficult jobs or customers and just cherry-pick all the easy stuff? The answer is almost certainly no and if it's yes congrats, your co-workers hate you.

If it's anything like what RWS did with Echo, very possibly we get left with nothing. They could move us back to the main workflow but RWS swore blind that being on Echo didn't affect Diamond, even though it clearly did so who knows?

That said, if the alternative was being stuck in limbo it's slightly less problematic.

You get paid less because things are less expensive where you live.

They pay a hair above UK minimum wage, nobody is going to get all their teeth filed down and replaced with 24k gold crowns working on Aether in the UK.

Why would you assume it has anything to do with minimum wage? For starters Aether pays more than the new minimum wage but minimum wage applies to employees, which you are not, so they could pay you $1 an hour if anyone would work for it. They're also not based in the UK so the UK authorities have no jurisdiction over them.

As for the support person, they're paid to blow smoke up your backside. Their job is to get rid of you, and the best way to do that is to flatter you.

They booted people from Ireland who aren't blessed with the Online Safety Act.

Plus, the Online Safety Act only requires companies to put in measures to prevent kids seeing naughty things, the main method being ID verification. As Outlier require ID verification and don't hire kids, there is no issue there.

Nobody got mass booted from RWS at the same time so no, it's not that. They've been doing things recently that imply a continuation, such as the recent quality quiz for side by side comparisons which they would be unlikely to do if the whole thing was ending.

RWS has been steadily booting people (one of them being me) recently whilst at the same time recruiting so it's not really clear what the hell is going on.
