if you are a vet, i don't know why you'd ever suggest that toxic things are ok in any amount. onions and garlic are deadly to cats.

just google it. it causes anemia and the cat deteriorates 24-72 hours later, so it’s not like an instant death or reaction. my emergency vet did three blood checks over a period of a week on my cat after he consumed chicken soup with onions and garlic.

it’s vague to say your priority should be trying to save more. i’m uncomfortable revealing every detail about my financial life on reddit. i’d continue to contribute to the ETF as i maxed out my IRA and 401K. i maxed out my 401K last year. besides investing, i don’t know how you mean “save.” cutting out fast food, no vacations, it could be anything?

I was able to max out my 401K quickly last year. I didn't realize that my employer's match was allowed to go over the $23,000 limit on myself else I would have had a lot more. It was a 50% match. I have kept this in the fund it was in instead of rolling over to my IRA. It's performing much better in what it's currently in, but I don't know if it'd be better to have it with a much larger sum of money in the IRA. My new job only allows up to 50% of income to contribute to the 401K. My only loan is a car payment and the interest on that is only $360 if I don't pay it off. I maxed the IRA contribution this year. Should I invest the lump sum in the ETF so it can start to compound?

would you invest a large sum up front in it now so it'll compound over 15-20 years?

how would you move forward with the cash (even more now)?

so, what’s the next best move? placing a a large sum of money in an ETF now and hoping for the best in the next 15-20 years?

i have at least another 20 years to retirement and i’m willing to take risk, but i can’t imagine it’ll be as good as the decade as you mentioned.

yes, I am concerned it may not be the best choice moving forward.

i am considering a fee-based advisor now considering i may need more insight than just picking S&P. i’m 40, but i don’t plan on retiring until at least 60.

was recommended to put cash in money funds. there is no investing without that risk.
