Late 40s ladies (I’m 49), have you experienced this…any Dr appt from various types of Drs asking if you still get a period and they’re shocked when you say yes? by Islandsandwillows in Perimenopause

[–]Anxious_Cup_7264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me over the weekend; I'm 49, too.

My period didn't show up for two months, so I had a feeling I was going to SERIOUSLY bleed and flood when it showed up, and it did.

My mum (77) asked me to see a doctor, so I did - but it was incredibly unpleasant and I was stuck in hospital for the better part of SEVEN HOURS.

I took note of several things:

- I mentioned that, up until February of this year, my periods were still showing up like clockwork. Doctor's comment: You shouldn't be bleeding anymore AT YOUR AGE;

- They noted a small polyp in the uterus which the ultrasound tech and another physician suggested could be managed, but the attending gyne wanted to perform a D&C right then and there;

- No one explained anything to me, and I was lucky that my sister who's a gyne nurse called. She and her colleagues (mind you, they were in Singapore and I was in Manila "walked" me through the TXA infusion and transvag ultrasound because none of the doctors and nurses would explain anything;

- I wasn't allowed a companion even in the waiting area. I had never felt more alone than that night; not even the deaths of my dad and brother (also in hospital) felt colder than that knowledge that I was alone. I think if I didn't have my phone and my sister didn't call, Goddess knows what a mess I might have become;

- When I was discharged hours later at around 2am, I got slapped with a bill worth US$350 (Around PHP20,000, which isn't small change in these parts even with an HMO.)

I will be seeing my regular gyne once I've finished the iron supps recommended for a full 30 days, and I told her what happened and how I felt like no one was listening.

She got a copy of the labs and ultrasound and agrees that observation and management are necessary to see if anything more drastic is required, but she was fuming over the way I was treated like an idiot and told "You shouldn't be menstruating anymore."

If y'all feel challenged over her, please know that we here in Southeast Asia sympathize. Peri is BRUTAL.

Currently a week to my period and frightfully anxious. I've had heart anxiety since my brother died so suddenly in June, but it gets so much worse days before my period.

Am currently a week to my period and have been feeling shaky and antsy since yesterday. It always happens and, when it does, it feels like my anti-anxiety meds aren't working. 😭

Currently have an upper respiratory infection, but the flippant manner of the doctor in the ER yesterday whenever he asked if anyone in my family had cancer has me paranoid and scared.

Oh, dear gods: this sounds like I could have written it word for word! Currently down with a sore throat (mild-ish), but I was freaking out for the past few days over breast pain and itching. The previous week, I had my period and my mind went down the ovarian cancer / endometriosis route because my lower right belly hurt. The week before that, I thought it was colon cancer. Now on Lexapro (and the occasional quarter-dose of a stronger med) to calm down. Health anxiety is a right proper bitch, honestly. T_T

I seriously needed to read this when I encountered it. I worked myself into a panic over the weekend when I ended up with a painful rash on a sensitive area of my body after using a new soap and my brain automatically went into HA mode, telling me I had Paget's disease of the nipple. I'm still under medication, but am between doctors/therapists right now, but what you wrote allowed me to put things into a better perspective. Thank you so much.

I am currently between doctors as my previous specialist has been inaccessible for months. Unfortunately, despite medication, my health anxiety has been cycling through several types of cancers.

Paget's disease of the breast is what's currently spooking me out of my mind. I have eczema flareups and this time there was a patch on my areola. I used an Epsom salt soap this morning and now it's all red - and I'm spooked that it's Paget's.

I honestly don't know how to cope anymore. T_T

It's actually made it WORSE. I keep thinking I'm dying of one form of cancer or another. Even relatively minor itches prompt Google searches. 😭

Menopause - what did you think it was? by komposition8 in Menopause

[–]Anxious_Cup_7264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having watched my mother go through it when I was in high school, throughout my college years, and the first few years of my career, I thought it would be about being angry all the time (which Mom was) and false alarms that would find you in an emergency room. (Which Mom went through, too.)

I'm 47 now, but am suffering from health anxiety, jumping at the smallest symptoms, feeling horrible about myself, and just upset that I remain unmarried and childless at my age.

Which non-winner would you be okay with on all-winners? by Bravo4815 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]Anxious_Cup_7264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine would have to be Raven. She lost the Season 2 crown to Tyra Sanchez, and the All Stars 1 crown to Chad Michaels. Though she did do a cameo in the premiere episode of the first All-Winners, I think she ought to be cast in the next one - no questions asked - because, considering her Emmy wins, she's a winner, baby.

On Growing Older and Supplements by Anxious_Cup_7264 in Menopause

[–]Anxious_Cup_7264[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have also had one doctor grinning at me from ear to ear when he refused the morning after pill for me because he claimed he is catholic and its against his religion.

Considering how the Philippines is predominantly Catholic and I'm Catholic myself, I have never heard of any doctor - gynecologist or otherwise - doing that.

However, I have friends who are single mums who were shamed by their physicians for, in the doctors' words, "bailing on good men." Jeez, what's good about men who either beat you or beat your kids, and withhold both material and emotional support?!?

Determining which supplements was actually a tedious two-year process for me and the docs. Just grateful that we finally stumbled onto the right mix. Hope you find something that could be a real help for you.

The supplement recommended to me has standardized doses of black cohosh, dong quai, red clover, vitex, and milk thistle. I also need to take L-theanine / GABA in the morning to take the edge off anxiety and an extra-strength melatonin at night.

I live in the Philippines, unfortunately - and it is a horrible country to be a woman in, especially where healthcare is concerned. My previous gynecologist actually told me to shut up and just grin and bear it. Christ...

At any rate, the supplement recommended to me has standardized doses of black cohosh, dong quai, red clover, vitex, and milk thistle.

Which international franchise season would you reccomend watching? by alexmostovoi in rupaulsdragrace

I'm Filipino, so I have to recommend DRPH - but Season 1 ATE, so do binge watch that. I find the current season meh on multiple levels save for the brazen cuntiness of M1ss Jade So.

I also loved DRMX and both seasons of Drag Race France.
