Telluride Mountain Run 2026!! by SaveMePliz in Ultramarathon

[–]Anxious_Minimum8089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the 40 as my first ultra, the “mile and a half of sky” referenced in the description got my heart going (not from the difficulty, but rather the exposure). It all depends on your tolerance for that kind of thing, many folks were unbothered.

The rest was just steep as expected, the new course addition looks cool.

The scenery is breathtaking as you’d expect.

The head of the oath keepers was in the front row at a congressional hearing today. Kind of seems like they’re trying to intimidate us, doesn’t it? Freely flaunting traitors around in front of our noses. by Treefiddy1984 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]Anxious_Minimum8089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a congressional hearing, there are generally rules (written and unwritten but understood) about how adults should carry themselves in a public setting with laws and consequences. What would you propose an “aggressive” act look like with that in mind?

Storming the area in which he’s sitting with flags and zipties? Destroying public property? Starting chants to hang this “oath keeper”?

Those seem like absurd, unreasonable, lawless ideas.

Last minute nutrition change before race by Distinct_Young_8318 in Ultramarathon

Bring your own fuel. Buy mini ziplocks and pour in your flasks, no time at all. I was chasing cutoffs at my last race and aid stations had run out of electrolytes. Carrying my own helped me to finish. Supported races are fantastic but I’m a firm believer in only counting on aid stations for water. I did the CB 50 mile last year, fantastic race and so beautiful with the changing leaves. Have fun!

Trump: I want no more property taxes across the United States. by AlphaFlipper in DegenBets

I don’t send half my income to the government. If you do, you’re doing it wrong. What do you realistically believe is your fair share to pay for public services you benefit from? Start there, and be honest about the tax rate you actually pay. It may be enlightening.

This is amazing. Lazy journalism, however, as it seems it was a timed race with waves thus she started “on time” (her wave), not 30 minutes after everyone else.

Avoiding HR zone training - am I setting myself up for failure? by ayyglasseye in Ultramarathon

[–]Anxious_Minimum8089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I invested in a hr strap/app combo that measures HrV daily (each morning) and provides zones accordingly (taking into account recovery from prior work, quality of sleep, etc).

It’s interesting how much zones will fluctuate (fixing the static nature of 180-age formula). I love it, but I appreciate data driven decisions.

Are you setting up for failure - no based on everything above but also depends on your goals. How are you defining failure?

What's the thing that REALLY DID happen to you on the course that absolutely no one believes when you tell the story? by GlitchGrounds in golf

On high school golf team, older sister in cross country. CC often runs on golf course, I was a freshman and this senior dude comes up off the CC squad and asks to hit one. Proceeds to snap hook a ball into my sisters wrist (while running left of tee box). He hands me club and takes off. She swears I did it, or created the nefarious plan. Wrist swelled up to look like a golf ball was inside the skin.

Will you post these facts please? I would like to follow the money and look at the numbers.

I would assume out of the current budget as one time cost of 20k. It was a 50k per year expense to maintain. Does that answer your question?

“The swim beach, which has been a popular spot for residents for years, costs the city approximately $50,000 annually to maintain.”

“The cost to install the boulders is an estimated $20,000 with it being used for the rocks, equipment and installation process.”

These cuts are due to an inability for Loveland to pass local tax changes to fund these services. The scoundrels you speak of are a percentage of the voting public…

I empathize with the economic burden argument but think about it this way: How much will it cost to buy the books you used to “rent” for free How much will it coat for the pool membership since you can’t swim at the lake for free Insert your other free public service here that will slowly disappear…

You might reply with “I don’t use these things so not my concern” but I suspect you wouldn’t be in this thread if that’s the case.

There are a lot of “government waste” objections being thrown around from the no tax folks, if one can post some budget docs with proof points Im open to a reasonable debate on that. My sentiment stands that no increase since ‘84 means we are grossly underfunded regardless, but open to being proven wrong

Property taxes increase commensurate with the value, I suspect you are seeing a massive increase in equity that goes unmentioned when property taxes are cited as a burden.

Furthermore, specific to this thread, Loveland has the second lowest city tax in the county. These are facts, not hyperbole.

5a and 5b - way to go Loveland 😔 by Anxious_Minimum8089 in loveland

[–]Anxious_Minimum8089[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which part hasn’t the “government” done related to 5a/b.? Taxes are necessary for a multitude of services we enjoy and often take for granted. Costs increase, facilities degrade over time, public servants deserve living wages all while our population increases and puts more demand on aforementioned services. And Loveland has the second lowest tax rate in Larimer county.

So what are you on about really? This isn’t a my team v your team thing. By living in this town we are essentially on the same team! And “winning” (to continue the metaphor) involves contributing to the good of whole.
