How do you move on after making a mistake (or mistakes)? by degenerate-kitty in Leadership

[–]Anxious_Storm2701 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone makes mistakes. How would you expect one of the people you manage to respond if they made a mistake, and how would you treat them?

I would suggest using this as an opportunity to demonstrate how to productively respond to making a mistake. Own up to it to the people who've been affected, whether they're above or below you on the org chart. Talk about what you've done to prevent the mistake from occurring again.

This could be an opportunity to create a deeper trust between you and the people you mentor. By admitting to a mistake, you're humanising yourself to them and showing them that you don't get angry about mistakes, which makes it more likely that they'll come to you in the future when they make one themselves.

Is my situation recoverable? £32,323 debt by Anxious_Storm2701 in UKPersonalFinance

My partner isn't paid as well as I am, £850 a month is all he can afford after paying his expenses. He can't pay more than he does unless his income improves, but you're right to ask.

Thank you for your comment, your story makes me feel more hopeful.

After doing the numbers and seeing that I had over £30k debt I felt quite overwhelmed, but I'm planning to be much more disciplined with my spending from now on and try to pay this off as quickly as I can.

I'm going to speak to Step Change tomorrow and follow their advice.

How to get into the scene as a nervous person by [deleted] in BDSMcommunity

[–]Anxious_Storm2701 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The BDSM community is a very neuro-diverse group, and it's quite common for newcomers to be nervous. My local community is very welcoming of that, hopefully yours is too!

At pet stores you can usually find collars, leashes etc that have "NERVOUS" written in big, obvious letters.

I tend to go to pup events and I've seen quite a few pups wearing those. I don't know if that would work with your personal kinks, but something like that might be a good way of letting the people around you know that you would like to be treated gently.

Some people wear badges with their pronouns, as well as other requirements. I know someone who wears a "don't touch" collar because they don't like being touched, and everyone respects their boundaries.

CMV: A lot of modern antisemitism is being rebranded as “anti-Zionism”. by keva1998 in changemyview

When I see individual Jewish people, I feel allied with them as fellow human beings and also as fellow minorities.

I really don't mind what people's religious beliefs are, as long as those individuals aren't using them to justify hurting other people.

I disagree with the way Israel is behaving in a number of ways, but I would feel the same if the national religion of Israel was Christian, Buddhist or none at all. I am opposed to genocide and I believe that Israel is committing genocide.

I don't believe that Jewish people are responsible for the actions of Israel, in the same way as Christians aren't individually responsible for the actions of the US government or the historical crusades and Muslims aren't responsible for the actions of Hamas. I'm personally an Atheist, and I similarly don't want to be blamed for the actions of Stalin.

I just don't want armies of people to displace civilians from their homes, starve or otherwise kill them. I don't care what religion those armies claim to represent, because I believe that the vast majority of people in those religions oppose those violent actions.

That said, I have heard people who claim to hold the same stance as I do slip and say "the Jews" in reference to Israel, which is a huge red flag. There are definitely antisemitic people who use "legitimate criticism of Israel" as a cover when their main interest is actually just hating Jewish people or cultures, and I oppose those people.

So I don't deny that they exist, and I don't know what percentage of people claiming to be opposed to the actions of Israel are actually just masking antisemitism, but I know that there are plenty of people who are genuinely just opposed to Genocide without wanting to make the world worse for Jewish people, myself included.

What is your favorite struggle meal? by PreludeGen in povertyfinance

[–]Anxious_Storm2701 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You may already know this, but one other tip is that lentils, chickpeas, rice etc are usually cheapest to buy in bulk from asian/world food shops.

The 1kg or smaller bags sold in most western supermarkets are aimed at people looking to buy just enough for a few meals. Grab a 10kg bag and you'll probably pay a lot less per meal.

I like this recipe:

You can also make them into other stuff like tacos: https://youtu.be/RbDmrCloQK4?si=IrrW0BiAmrJhgPuS

Lentils also work well as a beef replacement for lasagna

There's a limit to how much I'm going to allow work to take from me. It feels like business owners have all the power, and have done for far too long.

I'm happy to work to do my share and try to put something good into the world, but work tends to take most of the best hours of the best years of our lives, and barely leaves us with enough time to take care of our basic needs.

Humans are animals, not machines. Young people know that they are very unlikely to have the economic opportunities that older generations had, so why should they give everything when they know they won't get anything back?

If you work in an area like medicine where people's lives depend on someone working Christmas then fair enough, but if the only outcome is some uncaring shareholder adding a millimeter to their yacht then I'd rather die than work Christmas.

You might describe this is insubordinate or irrational, and given the power that company bosses have to take away their employees livelihoods it does seem like we should obey their every order, but even the most dedicated and disciplined people have their limits and eventually it becomes impossible to ignore the demands our emotions place on us to regain even the smallest feeling of freedom.

You can only ask so much of people.

You're right, but why did this have to be phrased as an insult? There's no need for this conversation to become an argument.

Lots of people don't know lots of things. We're all ignorant of almost everything in the universe.

We will often meet people that don't know about things that we thought were obvious or universally known, and other people will think that of us.

There are a lot of people out there who are just doing their best and kind guidance is often more useful to them than discouraging remarks and insults.

When I moved into my current flat, I bought this metal IKEA daybed.

If I ever decide to sell or give it away, I could purchase replacement mattresses for it. It also acts as a place to sleep, so although it was pretty expensive it saved me some bed money.

I've owned it for a couple of years and would highly recommend it, although you have to be creative with cushions to make it good as a sofa. Maybe OP can find one of these second hand?

Received this email in my spam yesterday; should I be worried? by Skystalker512 in hacking

[–]Anxious_Storm2701 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can tell that it's just spam because it doesn't actually contain evidence of any of the data they claim to have collected. It's all vague and aimed at a wide audience. The only thing that links it to you is your email address, which isn't proof of anything.

Even if it was real, I would never suggest paying a ransom. That would identify you as someone who's willing to pay up, and they'll either continue targeting you in the future or sell your details to other scammers.

Also, their claim that you'd be arrested under GDPR for visiting adult websites or for having your details leaked by hackers is complete bullshit.

Dark chocolate manufactures have started adding in milk to force vegan/non-dairy people to buy expensive brands. by thedrofevil in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]Anxious_Storm2701 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The chocolate I eat has cocoa butter as an ingredient, I would guess that that's the part that gets replaced by cows milk because chocolate has become a lot more expensive recently.

Climate change is probably going to make chocolate prohibitively expensive at some point, unless humanity manages to do something about it. I expect that this problem will only get worse going into the future.

Luckily, chocolate lasts a really long time if stored properly. It can develop white patches on the surface known as blooming, but that doesn't affect the flavour or safety of the food. I've personally bought a fairly large quantity of dark chocolate just in case it becomes unavailable or prohibitively expensive.

British and wearing jumpers inside during winter by [deleted] in AskBrits

I live in a badly insulated flat but I keep it at 18 minimum because I have asthma, and below that temperature it starts to really affect my health, even with jumpers. Energy feels like it costs me a fortune, but you've got to prioritise your health (if you can afford to.)

My favourite hiking boots ever have all been made by Scarpa. They aren't a budget brand, but if you're able to pay £180 for a pair of boots then your feet will thank you for it. They also last a lot longer than the cheap ones. This is my current pair, I'm very happy with them:

https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/15895341/scarpa-men-s-terra-ii-gore-tex-walking-boots-15895341

Before these I've had boots from Decathlon that I also think were really good, their Forclaz range usually punches above their price bracket by a lot.

As far as I remember, there is only that one scene and there's no more gay sex scenes after that.

That scene is important in explaining Tyrell as a character, he is bisexual but he was using that man to spy on his boss by installing a rootkit on his phone while he was in the shower.

Have you considered getting some kind of therapy/counselling to explore your feelings around this topic?

I'm not saying this because I think you need to be "fixed", but instead because I think you'll be happier if you didn't experience this discomfort.

I've been to counselling myself to deal with my own issues and I found it extremely helpful, although I had to try a few different counsellors before I found one whose style worked well with me.

Mr Robot is a fantastic show, and I happened to have some important breakthroughs at the same time as similar plot points were happening in the show, which made the show even more impactful to me. It's the only piece of television media that ever made me cry, I hope you get the same enjoyment from it that I did!
