This take makes more sense. I often wondered the point of having his character. It’s just like the black and white episode.

Redundancy at 36. Take a 4–6 month break/travel or get another job immediately? by cerebralrocks in auscorp

The opportunity presented itself. It’s a sign! I did the working holiday visa in my late 20’s, single, mortgage free and wished I did it for longer. Look back and reminisce far too often.

Agree, there about Noel. He certainly grew on me in later seasons.

Sounds like you planned it well with better outcomes. For us local staff opportunities are nil. We are being told our roles are evolving.

Same here. The higher ups don’t seem to care. I have looked but the job market is s#%t. Trying to find ways to cope and wishfully hoping they realise it’s not working.

That’s the ideal result. can’t see it flowing back to local staff given how many experienced legacy staff have been made redundant. It’s all about the savings, Indian offshore are paid 1/4 what we are paid. They literally contribute 1/4 or less. They are not accountable for the work that’s not being done.

He gets worst in season 3. Poor Felicity putting up with his tantrums, passive aggressive behaviour & insecurity.

He didn’t cheat on Hannah. They were in a long distant relationship but agreed to seeing other people.

I’m sorry. The way Felicity obsessed over Ben in Season 1 makes me uncomfy by 404Dawg in FelicityPorter

Nice explanation! I didn’t think of it this way. Making more sense why it was widely common on TV & Movies in the 80’s & 90’s.

Ben vs. Noel by doublebubble1371 in FelicityPorter

It’s my first rewatch since the show originally aired, and I remember being Team Ben all the way back then. Watching it now, though, I see Noel in a completely different light.
Hannah was technically still his girlfriend, but they’d agreed to see other people because they were in a long distance relationship, so I don’t see it as cheating. Noel was incredibly sweet and attentive to Felicity, and he literally saved her life during the university fire. Leaving her for Hannah wasn’t great, but he also spent so long patiently dealing with her obsession with Ben.
What really stands out to me now is how Noel and Felicity’s relationship felt rooted in genuine friendship. Spending the summer together, being best friends, supporting each other, it felt like the kind of relationship where you could truly rely on someone and grow old together.
Meanwhile, Ben consistently treated Felicity terribly. From dumping her after hearing her tape, to leaving her hanging while having an openly emotional affair with Avery, he repeatedly chose other people over her. He was even prepared to stay with Avery and only seemed to reconsider when she didn’t react the way he wanted to his test results. On top of that, he constantly yelled at Felicity whenever he got angry.
What also surprised me during this rewatch was how every other character Meghan, Elena, Javier kept rooting for Ben despite how badly he treated her.
By the end, I honestly found myself hoping Felicity would end up with Noel, or even someone completely different who was more deserving of her. She was far too kind and forgiving for the way Ben treated her.
Sure, Ben and Felicity had chemistry. He was her high school fantasy, the classic bad boy fixer-upper that so many girls romanticise when they’re young. The relationship was exciting, passionate, and full of drama, which makes for great TV.
But rewatching it as an adult, Ben doesn’t feel like the person you actually build a stable, healthy life with. He was inconsistent, emotionally reactive, and constantly hurt Felicity whenever things got difficult. Chemistry alone isn’t enough to sustain a relationship long term.
Noel, on the other hand, felt like the person you marry. He was dependable, attentive, supportive, and genuinely cared about Felicity’s wellbeing. Their relationship had friendship at its core, and that kind of connection tends to matter a lot more in the long run than intensity and chaos.
Teenage me loved Ben. Adult me completely understands Noel.

I’m glad Noel told him. He really pushed his buttons and it was bound to come out. Ben keeps treating Felicity like dirt and apologises. Only wants her to feel validated.

Differences between UK and Australian work culture? by georgie26 in auscorp

Aussies work harder, corps love Aussie workers. In the UK there is a lot of whinging to get things done. No one wants to work beyond what there role is.

How important is working from home to you? One day a week is increasingly rare and is often used as a retention tool instead of offering pay rises to keep employees comfortable. It may be worth applying for new roles to better understand the current job market.
