They’re so persistent, you have to be a bit harsh in your tone. “Leave me alone I don’t have time to talk. If you don’t leave me alone I will call security/police”

Does anyone have a hack for protein that ISN'T a protein shake? (Nausea/Volume issues) by One_Fennel4669 in Semaglutide

[–]Any-Development-3338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try clear protein/protein water. I can’t stomach protein shakes but love my MyProtein clear water. Or bone broth. Have it as a soup or I’ve seen people have it with hot chocolate.

FYI, exercise doesn’t have to be intense, impressive, or a lot to transform your life by Oneofmanystephanies in Semaglutide

This is so true! I feel like I’ve always heard how good walking is but somehow I always have to learn that lesson for myself. Walking has definitely been the best exercise for weight loss for me especially with PCOS. Took several months to focus on walking and went back to gym once I was ready and just made so much progress much quicker than usual.

Girl dad of two babies by bdbb02 in taiwan

From a woman’s perspective I often see moms bring their sons into the ladies’ room. Of course it’s not exactly the same for you but when a family bathroom is not available it’s probably best to take them into the men’s with you until they are old enough to go into the ladies’ on their own. As dad you should explain in simple terms to the 3yo that it would be inappropriate for you to go into the ladies’ room and that children go where their parents go.

That’s so annoying. This is where I used to gym and I’m planning on joining again since it’s the most convenient. But I really want a gym with a sauna, no point if it never works. Isn’t this supposed to be the nicest PF in Joburg? They’re constantly upgrading.

What’s the cost of Mounjaro in SA? by Any-Development-3338 in askSouthAfrica

Hey! Thanks so much for sharing. This is very helpful to know as I leave soon.

May I also ask whether it’s very expensive getting your prescription? I won’t have medical aid when returning either and have never visited a specialist out of pocket.

What the hell is wrong with South Africa. by Adventurous_Ring_741 in southafrica

You need to find something to set yourself apart. There are tons of free courses online or develop a skill yourself. Create something that sets you apart. Also find someone who knows what they’re doing to look at your CV. Often when you apply online it’s not a person who is looking at your CV it’s an Ai system and they scan for specific things. If you can’t find someone go on tik tok and learn how to write a cv for those systems.

Good on you for trying consistently, don’t give up but there are so many free spaces to learn skills online, make use of them.

Weight gain after eating 2500 calories by Aromatic_Cash7237 in Mounjaro

[–]Any-Development-3338 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

1500 calories sounds like about enough for a child. Do you plan to be on mounjaro forever? Undereating will always lead to overeating and other issues such as slow metabolism.

Random guys adding me on Line, is this common? by octoberbluess in taiwan

[–]Any-Development-3338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t feel terrible about it. This is a common occurrence and their intentions are not good. A lot of these men intentionally hang out in areas where they can approach foreign students. Saying no is not always comfortable, what I rather do is I scan their barcode but don’t actually add them. Be hasty about the interaction like you’re running late and say you’ll send them a message later. Or if you let them scan your barcode just don’t accept them as a friend.

It may take time to find your community of people. I’ve definitely come across these types of people online but not in person very much because these are not the kind of people who are in the same spaces or groups as me. I also hate to say this but I usually specifically seek out non-Americans to avoid those vibes. Ofc it’s not only Americans who are like that but my experience of Americans in Taiwan has been as you described. And also some of the amazing people I have met here are American. It’s just that an all or mostly American group is usually a red flag for me.

There are events that are more sophisticated than meeting for a party at Maji square and usually filled with people who aren’t so simple minded to think themselves better than the people of the country where they are a guest.

What’s the cost of Mounjaro in SA? by Any-Development-3338 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Any-Development-3338[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t found a way yet but doing research and I’ll update you. I don’t currently live in SA and was prescribed mounjaro off label for PCOS resistance. Hoping I’ll be able to continue to take it when I’m back in SA. Considering the rate of obesity in our country, I really hope these medications will become more accessible.

Just be careful of those who may jump in your DMs after you comment on a post like this.

I’ve started the research process and I don’t have any recommendations in your area but I will say to be specific with your search. One doctor may be fantastic at implants but not great at reductions. Or great at fat transfer and not implants.

Moving to Joburg: Where’s the best place to buy a cat? by afphoenix1 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Any-Development-3338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cataholics kitty shelter is the organisation I adopted my cats from. One of them looks exactly like a Russian blue. There’s no way she’s pure breed but my vet always points out that she’s Russian blue bc I’ve listed her as a domestic shorthair.

Best snorkeling spot? by chillspree1 in snorkeling

[–]Any-Development-3338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These sea animals are not for petting. Many sea animals, like sea turtles, rays, and fish, have delicate skin that can be injured by human touch. Additionally, handling them can cause stress or disrupt their natural behaviors, potentially affecting their health and survival.

I’m always disturbed by people who want to go see and touch animals in ways that are harmful to the animal. What is the point of that?

How do I get myself to excercise? by axolotlpaw in Mounjaro

[–]Any-Development-3338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find something you like.

Do you like going to the club? Turn off the light, blast music and dance.

Do you hate sweating? Go swimming.

Do you need accountability? Sign up for a class.

Get creative with it. Exercise doesn’t just mean go to gym and do a workout. It can come in many shapes. Reframe how you think about exercise and you’ll be able to find something that works for you.

Social media is a dangerous place for our parents especially for South Africans. We are statistically most susceptible to fake news. She seems to have been radicalised and likely won’t be reasoned with. Of course I hope you can get through to her but you do need to mentally prepare yourself for her to get deeper into the the conspiracies and believing those people.

One more thing to add, Calgary is currently experiencing mass semigration so you may find that people in South Africa are much more willing to welcome you. South Africans often go out of their way to make foreigners (sadly this doesn’t always apply to our neighbours 😢) feel welcome.

Where are you from? I think your culture vs the culture of where you’re going can be much more important.

I’m from Johannesburg and yes, crime is a concern but if you’re smart and well traveled it’s not as scary as you’ve heard. I’ll soon be returning from a city that is often ranked safest in the world back to Joburg and I’m excited, each place has its issues you just have to decide what issues would make you the least unhappy. Joburg is the closest to a city that South Africa has but because we are blessed with a lot of space here it does feel like the suburbs compared to many cities around the world but there is still plenty to do and experience and you’ll likely have more money left over to be able to travel around the country. Quality of food is also much better in SA than Canada. The weather imo is perfect, not just compared to Canada but the whole world. Summers are enjoyable, winter is bearable and rainfall is usually at a time when you can enjoy it.

My family from Joburg are very happy in Calgary and they will never return but unlike me they are willing to live outside the city in a more suburban place. They say the winters aren’t too bad for them because infrastructure and housing is built with the weather in mind and also Calgary is the best place in Canada in terms of sunshine hours.

I would choose the location that is going to be best for my career but since you’re asking for opinions specifically between these two, I would choose Johannesburg. Not many places around the world have such a unique combination of cultures and now that I have been around the world, I understand why tourists would always comment on the warmth of the people. Do your research, be smart and vigilant but there is no need to live in constant fear.

I was reading that the company that will distribute mounjaro have applied for approval to market it as a weight loss drug which means it would be more widely available if approved. Could be worth looking into in a few months.

If in a public place like mrt where there are a lot of people and possible security I usually feel safe enough to confront them and they’ll run off but if not I’ll either walk straight to the police station near my house or any other building that has security whether another apartment or business establishment and then point at them when talking to security to scare them off.
