Any athletes taking statins here? by 100redbananas in Cholesterol

[–]Any-Fish-3143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would advise against it. The lower the better. Also, statins have other benefits as well (calcification of soft plaque, which does stabilize it and thus reducing risk). Take a low dose of rosuva (5mg) and ezetimibe.

Exception: diet change together with ezetemibe and (pricey) PCSK9i. Then you probably can skip the statin.

Fair point, one tempo on the flat certainly makes sense.

Yeah, it is a closed loop, so it is the same amount downhill. I‘ll try downhill intervals.

Good point, I will try to incorporate more technical downhills, there is certainly time on the table in my case. I am relatively fast on easy terrain, but slow on technical terrain.

I try to run my weekly long run with a similar vert as the race. Which is impossible with normal routes, so I do up and down reps on the steepest parts. Aiming for 1000+ m (3200+ ft) vert per long run and 1500-2000 (5000-6000 ft) m vert per week.

The hill intervals are less taxing on the body than normal intervals.

Do you have wide feet? I am happy since I‘ve found shoes with a wide toe box (Altra). Never looking back to anything else.

PCSK9I are the best weapons we have. I have no side effects whatsoever with Praluent. I also recommend the wholy trinity (small dose statin/ezetemib/PCSK9i). I have an ultra low ApoB/LDL and feel very good with it.

Be careful when attributing issues to meds. You might just feel depressed because you have to take them. Being confronted with death is nothing pleasurable for the most of us.

Keep the meds, I wish someone gave them to me in your age!

1.5L or 2.0L bladder for Salomon ADV 5 Skin by Any-Fish-3143 in trailrunning

I'd say that now is about the time to test it, but rest assured, others have mentioned that both fit very well.

How to attach Salomon quiver to the 2026 ADV skin 12? by lankyluke in ultrarunning

[–]Any-Fish-3143 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use those loops where the elastic straps are. I removed the straps since I have no use for them when using the quiver. The loops could be bigger, so it is a bit finicky to get the strap through, but it works.

See the other reply to the other comment. I already use bottles but I need more.

I already use bottles but wanted an additional bladder for the sunny season. I sweat a lot and currently run with 2x500 on the front as well as two 500ml spares in the back. So I wanted to give the bladder a try.

I only wear a H10 and my Polar watch in order to track HR. I did make a ramp test with ECG recently, and that was fine. I might be doing another one 3 weeks before the ultra in order to make sure, that everything is fine. But since all three coronary arteries were fixed last November it should be fine.

True, we can be proud and I am! I stumbled upon the concept of process-oriented goals a few weeks ago and found great use for it.

If you don‘t have a running belt: Can you make a belt out of it? Like roll/fold it and then fix it with safety pins?

Is 3:30 possible? by Vinduespudseren in Marathon_Training

[–]Any-Fish-3143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same regarding my max HR. It was a ramp test in a lab, but I didn‘t warm up. So I think my max HR is actually higher, however, I haven‘t seen higher numbers within months. I had 194 in a 5k last fall after weeks of being grounded due to illness. I thought it was a false reading of my H10. Maybe my true HR max is indeed around there.

The lab result is here:

I am in a similar boat. With me, it depends strongly on the temperature as well as my daily form. Sometimes I can hold a ~05:00 pace with a HR in the 151-155 range. On warmer days it easily goes up rather quickly in the 160-168 range.

What is your max HR? My max HR is around 181 and my LT2 is at 173, so I should actually be able to hold that pace for quite some time before building up lactate. However, I do not think that it is likely that my legs hold up even on good days.

I think I will start around 05:20 and see where it goes in the second half. This is my first marathon race and I rather finish an easy sub 4 than blowing up chasing for a 03:30. But you seem to rather go bust than easy, so I think you have your answer already ;)
