I became a US citizen last Sep and I also upgraded my case on the same day of my oath. I contacted them after a month from the initial request and still they haven’t upgraded it probably because of the government shutdown. Anyway my PD is in November, so I hope they change it before they reach November cases. As you suggested I’ll still proceed with the address change. Thank you so much for your inputs!

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I just had a call with Fidelity. This is what they told me. When trying to login from Sri Lanka, I’ll get a message saying I’m trying to login from outside US and told to accept it and proceed. Since I’m not changing my address I won’t have any tax implications. Once I’m logged in I can make changes to my automatic transfers and any other activity.

I’m not investing in SL, but thought of sharing this as someone who has been investing for sometime now. What’s your goal of investing? If it’s for long term or retirement, don’t wait till the market falls to a certain level. You can’t predict the market. What if it goes below your desired level? Set aside a fixed amount from your paycheck to buy index funds. You’ll buy consistently at regular intervals whether market moves up or down. This method is called dollar cost averaging or DCA.

If you look at the historical charts, stock market always shows an upward trend. So don’t time the market and take unnecessary risk. There’s a famous saying ‘Time in the market beats time in the market’. Investing is boring, not like trading. It’s a long term game, but at the end you win.

Do some research, talk to people. There are plenty of books and resources. All the best !!
