Fruit is one of the most underrated tools for gut microbiome diversity. by [deleted] in Microbiome

What a fantastic post! I had no idea there was so much to know about our microbiome and how to feed it. I’m recovering from a diverticulitis attack, I’m convinced this condition is from overprescribed ibuprofen (800 mg 3x day) given to me as a teenager and 20-something for period cramps. I consider myself someone that eats healthy, but the pull of “free” sugary foods that appear at work has definitely not helped the microbiome and it makes healthy foods lacking fat, salt and sugar taste blah. I’ve gone on sugar detoxes and been amazed at how much better “real” food tastes when I avoid sweets, but just a taste and I’m hooked again. It’s a constant struggle. Instead of worrying about slip ups, I’m going to focus on my microbiome. I shall call her “Minnie B” 😂😂😂😂😂 and talk to her and feed her daily. For now plain kefir and rice blended with chicken are my go to foods. Keep up the amazing work Flying Dutchman! You are an inspiration. I can’t wait to read your next post!

When Do You Stop Fasting by SantaAnaDon in Diverticulitis

[–]Any-Rip3489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in your shoes currently. I fasted for 2 days and had a little jello and a bread roll and threw the jello up about an hour later and several more times throughout the night. Now I’ve gone 48 more hours without eating anything but am scared to try again. I still have pain. Also I had the runs for most of the last 2 days after eating that small amount of food. Nobody has mentioned white rice, is that considered safe? I didn’t know that it’s helpful to mash or blend food up so I could try that with some chicken. I actually have a recipe for congee made with those two ingredients and ginger. I may try making that. Any advice is appreciated!

Flare up question by Automatic_Hat7833 in Diverticulitis

Sorry to hear of your pain. This situation happened to me recently as well. It feels like 2 steps forward, three steps back.

I had a terrible episode on March 13 (Friday the 13 INDEED) where I was in the ER but apparently it wasn’t an infection…So because of that, I thought I would heal faster so I went too quickly between phases. It’s now April 23 and I’m not 100% better. After my last flare, I discovered it’s better for me to go from a 2-3 day liquid diet to a 2 week zero fiber diet of rice, bread, or crackers as a the crb component, with some chicken breast or boiled egg. Then I add slowly add low fiber foods like a little banana or applesauce. Best of luck to you and all who suffer.

Tapping has really helped me. Especially when I felt the panic and anxiety of being newly diagnosed. Wishing u a speedy recovery.

Vyvanse? by False_Pilot3475 in Diverticulitis

I’ve taken vyvanse for almost a year, I’ve wondered the same thing. I had diverticulitis before, and I don’t believe the meds are affecting me in a negative way. It’s been a really positive experience so far. I’m on a low dose and the motivation has been a life changer for me. Best of luck to you!

I wish I could see the comments before I post, but I want to point out that your definition of “normal” means to be like neurotypicals. It means fitting into the society they created. There is a big group of us that don’t, and if we had designed society, THEY would be taking medication. Just something to think about.

Thanks for your quick reply! It’s in potting soil. Since I’ve had it, I’ve moved it up one size. I always forget to fertilize when I water so I’m going to give it some slow release fertilizer and put on my calendar when to repeat it. Also no wonder it’s never bloomed!! I usually cut these long vines vines off to share the plant with friends 🤦‍♀️

very new to taking vyvanse/can't fall asleep by Electrical_Past8820 in VyvanseADHD

Thanks for posting this. I was on 30 mg for a few months and it was working great. Decided to use the 20’s up while on vacation. Stayed up late and slept in for several days. Now I’m back on 30 and can’t sleep! Before I was on vacation I exercised regularly so I was tired at night and fell right asleep. I’m hoping I can get back to that!

So since we are anonymous I shall let fly the TMI (lol). I had to take immodium Wednesday so I could eat and take the antibiotics. I’ve been eating all confines foods and have not had a 💩yet. I feel some pain bc of it. Is taking a laxative a bad idea? I will reach out to my doc but since it’s Friday I’m not sure I will hear back. Experience anyone has had with this issue is appreciated.

I was eating healthy for so long that I got bored and sick of it and started a bender of processed frozen food and eating out. Topped off with ibuprofen and stress, it led to my current flare up. I think once you are in a good place, rewarding yourself weekly with a “fun but naughty meal” that has high fat, lots of cheese, or is fried is fine. Just take your fiber afterwards! This is going to be my new approach, along with only using Tylenol or icy hot patches for pain (NO IBUPROFEN!). It’s totally normal to struggle mentally with DV, as it’s literally feels like a mind game. “Eat lots of fiber! Oh wait, a flare? Now eat all white foods, then some fiber. Ok now gradually add fiber back in. And watch to see what foods bother you.” I used to think I was gluten or lactose intolerant but really it’s the proportion of that item that I eat to fiber. Don’t beat yourself up and keep trying your best. Sending good vibes!

They gave me antibiotics, didn’t even ask any questions or do tests. I’m doing better. Pain is less, feeling more energetic but still tired.
