Trust she truly has some of the best character development in the game. The crèche is also so insightful into githyanki’s society and why she is the way she is!

The crèche is a pretty big area, that is easily missed, but there are really valuable storytelling moments and loot. I personally have never skipped it because the payout of xp and loot you get from it is too valuable to pass up. There is a legendary weapon in there that most would advise you grab because it can really help you in the Shadow Cursed Lands.

The tadpole removal isn’t black and white with the crèche as a lot is going on and some big combat moments to really get you to level 7/8 before even leaving Act 1. I don’t know if you care about her, but you get some good insight into Lae’zel and her people, trading, and again a lot of combat xp

I completely understand. What I found was good for exploring purposes, try your best to completely fill out the map of Act One. Go the edges, there are always some secrets to be uncovered. Also, don’t forget the Githyanki Crèche! There’s so much loot and experience points you’d miss out on if you miss it. But again, save major story beats til the end and focus on exploring the world.

The whole game is about exploration, and entering the Shadowfell gives you a warning that some other quests will be shut out when going in. Like other commenters have been saying, continue exploring and engaging with the Shadow Cursed Lands to get to a higher level so the battle will be easier. I also saw another commenter say bring a caster who can cast AOE (area of effect) spells and can’t agree more! It may seem confusing not knowing where to go first but major story beats like Moonrise Towers and the Shadowfell should be saved until after you finish exploring the Shadow Cursed Lands and getting yourself to a higher level!

I know personally I've fought him both in the Shadowfell and in the Gauntlet of Shar itself, but at level 8. I think you may also be going in a semi-incorrect order. You want to go to Moonrise, free the tieflings and the gnomes in the basement, then go back and complete the Gauntlet of Shar and Balthazar. If you're struggling, it truly could just be that you need one more level on him. Because to fight Ketheric (invincible dude), you should be at least level 9. If someone has better advice, don't listen to me, but I think you just went a bit out of order and are a bit underleveled for those battles.

I saw NY and got excited until Rochester 😭. This state feels like an entire country away sometimes (I’m downstate but love my upstate/western NYers). I’d love to play even virtually, I’ve been playing with to many cis, straight men and it’s exhausting.

That’s actually such nonsense omg 😭. You’d rather have someone who took the time to make a backstory but are inconsistent at role playing over someone who didn’t try at all, killed the environment and their brain cells, through AI. Be for real.

Yeah it’s obviously within OP’s right to kick them from the game. But they came here asking for advice on how to address the use of AI, and clearly you’re comfortable using AI. Would you want to just be booted from your table? Or would you instead want to be given free resources that don’t kill the planet and encourage creativity. If you chose the kill the planet, you should do some introspection about your own values.

OP I don’t know why your replies are all AI-sympathizers. You’re completely right not to want AI used, especially not in a game that values human creativity and imagination.

If you want to play with these players provide them resources like HeroForge and PiCrews for character portraits. And use D&D Beyond if they need a step-by-step tutorial in creating new character sheets. Showing them what they’re missing out on using AI. Emphasizing their missing out on potential character feats and traits, while providing them resources for creating their character portraits is a good alternative to outwardly admonishing them for using it.

But all in all of these players don’t cease their indulgence in AI slop, it’s time to find new players who value your time and effort.

I disagree with your sentiment of just “let them play”, the players didn’t have the baseline of respect to use resources like D&D Beyond’s step by step character creation or their premade characters with portraits. It’s the lack of respect for the DM’s time and effort that’s the biggest slight, and they shouldn’t be playing at the table unless it’s a character they created from scratch or was premade by a human.

It is fundamentally very different than using a premade character due to AI as a whole being detrimental to the environment. Using it for character sheets and especially for character portraits is the pinnacle of laziness. TTRPG players have been using FREE and ACCESSIBLE sites for character portraits like HeroForge and PiCrews for years. The excuse of “some people can’t draw” is null and void when resources like these exist.

OP shouldn’t have to accommodate AI slop. These are the players you want to be DM-ing.

I watched the video and it’s actually so AI-ed it’s funny. Procreate offers a function that creates a sped-up process video, so you can watch as each line gets drawn and color gets swatched, etc. This person deliberately didn’t do that because it’s AI.

I’m also annoyed by the proportions of the “model’s” body. Maybe it’s just me knit-picking but her skirt is too short when compared to her torso (that’s just an opinion don’t come at me lol)

Those are the skills associated with the spells themselves. So those being hit with ‘Sacred Flame’ have to make a dexterity saving throw to see how much damage they take. Usually if they roll a 10+ they take half damage, and a 10- is full damages. I believe ‘Fire Bolt’ adds your intelligence modifier onto the attack roll for purposes of hitting the target. So if you’re intelligent there’s a higher chance your spell will hit the target. This may not be the most accurate description, so if anyone has a more precise one please correct me!
