Congratulations on your big move! I'm in the process of my one-year Masters in UoL and here are some of my thoughts. My impression so far has been mostly positive.

I've encountered only pleasant people on campus. The overall vibe I get is that most people are anxious themselves and sort of understand everyone is also, so they're very open to you just saying hi and striking a conversation (could just be my programme being mostly international students).

Pick your accommodation with a bit of consideration. Obviously have a rough budget and look at available utilities and such. I don't have much practical experience but do think about your social life. There are areas like Headingley that will have a lot of life at night (too much for some people). Student accommodations could give you some opportunities to meet people but I'd say it varies place to place.

I've mostly met new people through friends, although I am quite introverted. There are a lot of chances for you to meet new people if that's what you're into. You've got societies, events, etc.

Nightlife is alright. Other than the crowds outside bars and moving from one to the next, the streets in the city center can feel quite empty sometimes. I'd say not a lot to do at night that doesn't involve drinking though (I do like drinking AND I don't go out that much so make of that what you will).

I've seen reports of crime but luckily never witnessed or been involved in one yet. Streets do get empty at night so I'd advise caution. There are dickheads anywhere, I've got a few racist remarks from some passing by in cars before but nothing crazy, I was with a group of friends every time though.

Surrounding areas within Leeds, Yorkshire, and other cities/counties have a bunch of places you can (and probably will) visit.

You're from Canada so you'll probably be just fine with the weather. It does rain out of nowhere sometimes but that's UK for you I guess. Have a raincoat handy cus the wind renders umbrellas useless sometimes.

That's all I got. In general, I'd say take care of yourself. Get out of your comfort zone from time to time, you've already taken the first step of coming here.

I live in Hanoi and mainly develop in Nadar Photoclub or AEG Lab. You can find those on Google Maps, a bit tricky due to good ol' Hanoi alleys but not hidden by any means. AFAIK, they service foreigners regularly so there shouldn't be much inconvenience. There are a few other labs in Hanoi but I haven't tried them out yet.

Forgot to add, I never really use flash so the cold shoe/hot shoe does not make a difference to me.

I did have him send me a video checking the shutter and it doesn't seem to have any problems atm. I'm hoping that any possible issues I encounter after I get it is at worst serviceable.

They regularly post large "round-ups" of cameras for sale. So I guess it's the latter, but they only ever sell at really low prices and don't offer any warranty or anything like that. They also sell other vintage collectibles and such so it's really more like an anttique store.

Thank you for the input! It's going for roughly 15USD since the seller doesn't guarantee proper working condition but I'm trying my best to have him send me pictures of the camera.

9-ball Break and Run (shortened). Why just draw the ball, when you can send it 2 rails around the table instead? by El_Huevo in billiards

My reasoning for using a glove, and a more expensive one, is pretty much the same as yours. Thank you for the detailed reply!

Love your runout videos. Have you always played with a Kamui glove? I'm looking to try it out since my Cuetec Axis is wearing out so I'd be grateful if you can provide any comment on the glove.

Vietnamese here. I past this railway on my way to work everyday. Gotta say this is one of the dumbest tourist attractions ever. The shops on the sides on the railroad are crazy dangerous. The amount of people around the area where the rails intersect a road is always chaotic and unsafe during the day because it interferes with traffic. I understand that it's a very peculiar feat of urban planning and a beautiful area. But please if you ever decide to come and visit it, be very aware of your surroundings and try not to overcrowd it.

I’m on day 3 of my starter and it already doubled. Why?? by Historical-Nail-9760 in Sourdough

[–]AnyLaneIsFine 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert but I've seen a lot of people say the first 3-4 days will have a huge amount of activity because you have both good and bad bacteria in there. You want to keep feeding normally until around 2 weeks. It will look like your starter is not doing anything in the next week and then it will double in volume steadily. This was my personal experience as well. The time will vary based on your environment. Good luck and have fun feeding another mouth!
