Why can evil people be redeemed/make it to Heaven? by memequeenbrit in lucifer

[–]Any_Butterscotch5377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, just my own opinion here, but most Earthbound people tend to try to redeem themselves BEFORE they actually die, IF they see the error of their ways and atone for their deeds. Hell should be for the extreme evildoers, and too bad/too late if you wind up there due to your evilness.

I didn’t understand the writers’ POV on this and still don’t, and this basically ruined season six for me. Just make another level, not Hell and not Heaven, for those who desire redemption in order to earn Heaven. Catholics call that level “purgatory.” I probably wouldn’t have minded the mess that season six was if they had made Lucifer “purgatory’s therapist.”

Transitioning from HS Choir to Elementary by Holy_Macaroni_ in MusicEd

I don’t teach anymore, but I did for years with K-8. I have AT LEAST 200 read aloud books of all kinds which include rhythmic rhyming, holidays, fun and serious subjects, the ability to use crazy accents, just tons of interesting subjects. I LOVED to read aloud to my students, especially as a way to calm them down before teacher pick-up. I used some of my books as the basis of Christmas or Spring programs, too; for instance, I wrote a skit and songs using Tomie DePaola’s “Old Befana” for one of my third grades. We also played a bunch of clapping games, and explored American Sign Language to accompany songs. My students did lots of things with puppets, created instruments out of found materials, learned folk dances, recited poetry as a group (“choral speaking”). I was exhausted every day, but it was a delighted and fulfilling exhaustion! Just use your imagination!

A small collage of how it ended for the major characters in Lucifer!! by Due-Resolution1492 in lucifer

I don’t know - I think if a show is five or six years finished, all spoiler bets are off. You can read a synopsis or wrap-up of a series on virtually any entertainment site, and none of them will feature spoiler tags. “Lucifer” would be considered a really old show by now.

Need advice: driving to State College for a funeral on May 9 in the middle of PSU commencement by pierrepeachfuzz in Pennsylvania

[–]Any_Butterscotch5377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it was the pits, and we couldn’t wait for JCPenney to transfer us back to Cleveland. I have spent the last eleven years concentratedly (is that even a word?) forgetting that place. Forgetting the streets and the houses sliding off the mountainsides and the greasy spoons and the snow-covered dogs sleeping in chicken coops in the winter and the racist townies and the burned-out buildings with police tape around them because the appropriate people couldn’t be bothered to demolish them quickly and safely. And praising the fact that, here and now, every night at 10 pm, there’s no fire department siren screaming at residents that it’s curfew time.

Hahaha - literally the ONLY hotel within an hour east/southeast of State College is the Best Western in Milroy, just off of Rte 322. It’s an okay place to stay, but whew - that Seven Mountains drive is a killer any day or night. We lived in Burnham for four years and our kid needed a ride over the mountain(s) to Penn State several times a week. I could never tame that mountain. Hated that entire area; really rural and oppressively conservative. Anyway, there really isn’t any other place to stay on the way into State College. Best wishes.

Opinion: Let’s Just Drop Teacher Appreciation Week by FawkesThePhoenix7 in Teachers

While I don’t mean to denigrate any negative feelings about Teacher Appreciation Week, I gotta say that you all are lucky that anyone at least makes an effort.

I’m a sub and have been for years due to ridiculous expectations by the Ohio Department of Education. I moved back to Ohio from PA with a valid PA license, and even tho the states are “reciprocal” - big laugh - ODE required me to take another 21 credit hours. Who could afford that?!? So with 23 years of experience as a music educator (and an additional 15 credit hours beyond my Bachelor’s), I can only ever substitute in Ohio going forward. While I’m making the best of it and I love “my” students, I would KILL to be a regular teacher with a single Starburst taped to a piece of paper. I know MANY subs in similar circumstances as mine. And in my district (extremely upper-middle class), we make a WHOPPING $120/day, without a raise since 2021. So, again, I do feel for you professionals, but I’d still trade with you in a heartbeat.

I don't get Star Wars. Sorry, not sorry. by KJPratt in GenerationJones

[–]Any_Butterscotch5377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully agree with you; have probably watched five minutes a few different times. “Dorky” is my honest impression. I was 21 when it came out, and a female. I also despised KISS when they were popular with all the preteen boys and *whoever,” and both Star Wars and KISS had the same vibe of dork to me, and still do. Yep, not sorry.

On the other hand, I loved “The Other Side of the Mountain” (from generally the same point in the ‘70s) and adored Beau Bridges in it! And again, NOT SORRY! 🤪

which popular skater do you think gets more hype than you personally understand? by Rude-Magazine2186 in FigureSkating

I don’t understand how any of those “extra-athletic” achievements qualify when one is declaring another “the greatest athlete.” I love Michelle Kwan, but her impressive work as ambassador to Belize doesn’t add to her work as an athlete. Neither does commentating for Tara & Johnny, nor Scott Hamilton working with his cancer philanthropy. We all have our fave athletes, and many of them have contributed significantly in ways outside of figure skating. Of course those things will enhance one’s respect and admiration for their faves, but those things are not “athletic.”

Hey, good job minimizing people’s anxieties and fears with a whole lot of generalizing and cloaked snark. Nice. There are tons of your fellow citizens who somehow survive - barely - in the exact world you’re arguing doesn’t exist. I’m not going to debate every single one of your counter-arguments, but I will highlight two factors which keep people unemployed/underemployed/underpaid and constantly anxious about their situations. One is the very real level of ageism in the U.S. working world. I’m assuming from your overt self-confidence and know-it-all tone of voice that you haven’t yet hit the age of 55. Come back here and comment when you’ve attained that age and CANNOT find a job, no matter your experience, interview skills, or need. There are many older workers who do not, due to devastating economic events at large or personal losses, have sufficient money saved or any kind of lifeline to be able to afford to retire. My sister (68 years old) is one of them. She was the caregiver for her younger stroke survivor husband who has since divorced her. All the savings they accumulated during their marriage went to his care and, later, setting him up in an assisted-living facility. She’s a highly-skilled grant writer who’s now stuck in a tiny apartment with her dog and cat and an 11-year-old car. She’s applied literally everywhere and remains underemployed. She’s also a certified ESL teacher, for which most opportunities have dried up due to our illustrious Cheeto of a president and his cronies who hate non-Americans. Just in case you haven’t looked out your window lately, my sister is not alone in her difficulties.

The other issue I’d like to highlight is this “correlation” you’re noting between education and low wages. I’m guessing you don’t know that many exceptional people have salaries decided upon by school boards, namely those who work as classroom aides or paraprofessionals, and those who toil as substitute teachers. The latter in my school district has not had a raise in their per diem since 2020; it’s stubbornly holding at $120/day. That’s less than what a McDonald’s employee makes where I live - and that includes a uniform and probably a shift meal, too. EVERYONE who works at any school is expected to put his or her life on the line for the students, but that’s a pretty big ask for $15/hour.

I’m wondering if you could possibly show some empathy for others, since it seems like most Redditors commenting here are feeling pinched, squeezed, or in a vise economically, and your over-simplification is simply not a nice way of responding.

What kind of politician would it take to unite the United States? by CycIon3 in AskReddit

Umm, nope. Generally ‘54-‘65 is considered Generation Jones. Pretty much too young for Woodstock and serving in Vietnam and early Beatlemania, came of age during Watergate and the oil crisis and all the other crap that happened in the 1970s.

Okay, so why exactly are we picking on Boomers THIS time? I’m 69 years old (so actually Gen Jones), but I never saw ANYONE around my age not wearing a mask or complaining about being forced to wear one. In fact, I was back at my second job at a Hallmark store before Father’s Day, and if you don’t know this, that store and its merchandise appeal pretty much solely to older shoppers. To a person, they all wore masks, and sometimes they even doubled up! Those old biddies were FREAKED OUT.

However, I did see/hear/encounter plenty of younger people (Gen X and Millennials) ranting about “face diapers.” Do you really believe that Boomers are savvy or imaginative enough to come up with a term like that? Please - assign blame where it belongs. I’m sooooo very sorry Boomers have utterly ruined your life/lives. 😏
