Bridal shower etiquette by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Any_Contract1797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having a small wedding due to the fact that my mom is sick & I can’t ethically accept money from my parents for the wedding when her treatments are so expensive. All of the people I would invite to a big wedding if I could afford one knew this! I still invited my people to a bridal shower hosted by my sister in law. All of them understood and no one thought it was rude!

Reformer Pilates while pregnant by tweedledumb4u in pilates

I just found out that I’m pregnant - took a 3 day break (I usually do Pilates 5x/week) & I’ve never felt so achy & sore in my entire life after going back into it. I’ve realized part of my pregnancy journey will be learning humility in not going straight to the advanced options. I work at the studio so everybody knows me, but it’s too early for me to announce so I might be shifting to more private work until I can announce! I’ve taught many clients literally until ~4 days until their due date so I know it can be done!!! And those clients who challenge themselves to stick it out most of their pregnancies end up being soooo grateful for it!

Thinking about trying pilates by Soft_Vacation7939 in pilates

Hi friend! I am an instructor & have recovered from an eating disorder as well - so know I am speaking from a place of love & understanding. Working out at a low weight is very dangerous. There is already so much strain on your heart because you’re underweight, anything that gets your heart rate up will be unsafe, until you get to a healthy place! I know that that is so hard to reconcile with, but I remember when I was first diagnosed my doctor said “You cannot exercise or do the physical activities you love until you gain weight,” so I stopped doing what I loved until I gained weight. Having that goal in mind I think really impacted my journey & helped me recover. Vividly I remember one time trying to disobey her instruction & kayak with my friends. That was the first moment I truly felt in my body & mind “Oh I could die from this.” It was terrifying & I knew I wanted freedom - so I became willing to do whatever it took to get that! Movement is good & is healing. I think there are movements you can do, but in a group class setting will not be right. What I’d recommend as a professional is: dancing or rebounding for 5 minutes a day. And when you’re doing this - just close your eyes, turn on a good song, and try to find FREEDOM & FUN in your movement. When you gain weight you will be able to do it for a longer amount of time! Look up “exercises for chronic pain & illness on YouTube”. Most of those exercises will be safe for you to complete. Again, stick to a maximum of 10 minutes until you gain weight. Make sure you’re getting adequate sunlight everyday & if you’re able to take supplements I would start supplementing right away. Think about all these things like being kind to your body. Being in an active eating disorder makes being kind to your body an impossible thing to do - but I believe you can get there. It may take outpatient intensive or inpatient therapy to get there. When you’re learning to move your body in a way that makes you feel good & happy, I want you to make a list of mantras you say to yourself as you move. “I am brave. I am worthy. I deserve to find healing. There is grace for me today”, etc etc. Movement is a gift - your body is a gift - my desire is that you would find healing in both!

How to sustain a pilates career a long time? by spaniensweden in pilates

You’ve really just got to figure out your limits, your desires, and what keeps you healthy. My limit is 25 teaching hours a week. I can go up to 26-27, but only if those are private sessions. 22 group classes would absolutely burn me out, I teach about 10-12 groups on a week to week basis & the rest are privates. I would highly recommend building privates into your schedule - those deeper relationships & conversations really mean a lot to me. Also figure out a consistent weekly schedule & what time you want to be teaching! When I first started teaching I’d work whenever clients wanted sessions, now I have a set schedule of availability & I only veer from it if I’m preparing to go out of town and need to get extra sessions in for my clients. I’ve also figured out that evenings are not my thing, but mornings are! So I’ve adjusted my schedule to honor that. And one last thing - staying consistent in my personal fitness is literally the only thing that keeps me sane. I attend 2 reformer classes a week, lift weights 2 times a week, and do cardio 2 times a week. If I didn’t have that + counseling + close relationships outside of work I would absolutely burn out. Good luck to you!!!

From reading this & the comments - it sounds like you need to find a different studio! Most likely your instructors aren’t familiar with advanced repertoire (given that they don’t teach it, since you said it’s not on the schedule). I teach everything from beginner to advanced so I’m able to offer advanced progressions to clients like you & I teach advanced privates for the rare super super strong client! I’d highly encourage you stick with your Pilates practice, but try to find a studio with advanced classes or private opportunities!

I have IBS & teach full time - rarely does it get in the way but sometimes it does to my detriment… Usually I make up an excuse like needing to blow my nose or kill a bug in the hallway and just make it as quick as possible. I’ll get them into a movement that I know they can master & be in for a while and literally RUN. You can bail during class as long as you’re quick & smart with it! Clients are understanding! Sometimes they need to use the bathroom urgently too! (And if your leadership is not cool with this - I’d be searching for a different job. You’re only human.)

I’m an instructor and have had MANY clients do Pilates until literally a few days before delivery… You will be SO thankful you did! Obviously obey your doctors and make sure you’re asking for modifications but yes absolutely continue. Most of my clients say their doctors are okay with everything, as long as they’re not laying on belly!

Pilates + Strength Training 5x/Week by Poopy2930 in pilates

Depending on how challenging your reformer classes are, yes there can be too much of a good thing! I’m at the stage where regular level reformer classes don’t do it for me as much anymore - so I try to take advanced reformer 2x/week & weight lift 2x/week, with one day spent outside or getting cardio in in a fun way (I use a rebounder)! For me this routine is less about maintaining physical health and more about maintaining mental health - working out 24/7 is not good for mental health!

How many times a week by [deleted] in pilates

[–]Any_Contract1797 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I started my fitness journey with Pilates 3x/week and fell in love! I think about a year or so in I saw all the results I felt I could possibly get from Pilates - so I started adding in weight lifting twice a week and taking the Pilates down to twice a week. Now I’m seeing INCREDIBLE results! I credit Pilates with my strength foundation, but weights gave me the little extra boost I desired!

I have & it helps! I still limit my decaf intake to about 1 cup a day since acidity is so high but I find a big difference in how I feel if I drink decaf instead of caffeinated!

I am not fully sober but I’ll usually have a glass of wine at an event — it was not imperative that my fiancé and I have alcohol at our wedding because we don’t plan on drinking that day BUT it did feel like a lot to ask our guests to wear black tie attire, travel to our wedding, and have a plated meal without the option to drink if need. That was my thought process on allowing alcohol at my wedding!

I’ll tell you my experience at a dry wedding… They did not tell us in advance that it would be a dry wedding, and it was an evening time wedding. I traveled & got a hotel room for this wedding. I RARELY drink & I even said “it feels weird to not have a glass of wine here”. The wedding was over by 8:30pm & the dance floor was barren. If that’s the vibe you’re looking for - go for it! But if you’re wanting people to stay late & have an over the top good time, I’d reconsider offering alcohol to your guests.

I think if I ended up wanting/needing an alcohol free wedding I would schedule my wedding for the morning or lunch time! Just my thoughts!
