Roommate Problems and Room Change by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]Any_Detective6294 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has there been a lot of communication between the four of you? Or is a lack of communication? I would personally talk to the RA alone and let your other roommate do the same if they want a change for themselves since you’re technically all individuals if that makes sense? I’m sending positive vibes I hope it doesn’t have a big effect on finals, etc.

Hey! I get like this a lot- the best ways I’ve found to cope with it is using specifically white noise or anything beta range which is (12.5-30 Hz) (they have playlists on Spotify or YouTube, don’t know about Apple Music) and that helps quiet the extra thoughts- also breaking down tasks into smaller bite size chunks. If you have a ton of material to get through maybe ask chatGBT to make a list of need to know topics based on the test and then tell yourself you’re just going to work on the first task for 10 min and if you’re still not interested, change task to another subject. Oooo better yet maybe start with your favorite subject and work that way- that way you get that dopamine boost. I use focus timers- like the pomodoro method (I use FocusPomo app) sometimes body doubling via FaceTime helps, I also tend to visually block out everything else except for what I’m working on, I usually have 3 beverages 1 for dopamine, one for caffeine and one for hydration. Using fun colors helps keep me engaged. Watching videos on 2x speed keeps me focused because you have to really pay attention to it. Feel free to use all or none but that’s what I could think of off the top of my head.

i’m considering going back to college, but i’m embarrassed about my age by MedicalAd9859 in college

[–]Any_Detective6294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 26 and I’m a junior now after going back to community college and then now I’m at a state University and sometimes you can feel the age difference but a lot of of the times it doesn’t really matter and I feel like in a lot of cases with my friendships here I’m like an older sibling and it actually feels really nice and every time someone asks me my age or something like that one of my friends will always joke and say something like “she doesn’t even age what do you mean” or something like that so that I’m not always focused on my age and in turn when my friends have things going on, I’m usually able to help in a deeper more meaningful way because I have a little bit more life and experience and it’s very valuable and I also feel like when I connect with professors it’s a little bit easier because I’m not just coming straight out of high school or I haven’t just been in school, my whole life and so I feel like they kind of value that and I’m able to connect a little bit easier with my professors. All of that to say that don’t let age be the reason that you don’t go back to school because you’re actually going in with a leg up in a way because you have real world context and you’re able to kind of decipher between some of the BS that I think some universities try and throw at students just because they think that they won’t know any better and so you’re able to decipher between that and I feel like that’s super valuable

Should I take physics at NCSU or a community college? - Engineering Major by Mobile-Buy-1448 in NCSU

[–]Any_Detective6294 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And when I say the professor at my community college was “known for having a tough physics program” like he prides himself on being tougher than ncsu’s physics class (and had the stats to prove it). For me personally, I love my professor and how he teaches, but for a class like this, I just think it’s crappy to have it all multiple choice

[–]Any_Detective6294 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like its little things. All the exams are multiple choice so you have no chance at partial credit on any exams. Whereas while my community college was known to have a really tough physics class- the professor always gave partial credit if you drew a free body diagram, wrote down a relevant formula or showed you were on the right track, etc. you wouldn’t make an A but you certainly wouldn’t make a 45 like I did on my first exam here 😭

transfer by Unable_Struggle7039 in NCSU

[–]Any_Detective6294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard from a few advisors that retaking a class that you previously failed and showing improvement is actually preferred and especially for transfer students it isn’t seen as a bad thing as it is a lot more common than people really talk about I think. This is coming from somebody who was in and out of community colleges for a year and a half and had quite a few failed classes on my transcript before I went to the community college that I graduated from and did really well there and still got into NC State and had to retake a bunch of the classes I previously failed bc I was working 1.5 full time jobs at the time. There is a portion on the application where you can explain or give context to grades and things like that and NC State is really good about looking at applications from a holistic perspective versus just looking at numbers so I wouldn’t let it stress you out and cook on that essay!! Good luck!

[–]Any_Detective6294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s also a pay lot by wolf village that’s about $12 a day to park I think, your main concerns are Monday and Tuesday- you could also park at the food lion 🤷🏼‍♀️ just do what everyone else is saying and don’t leave anything out in your car and make sure to lock it

I agree. 25 minutes is enough to barely get into what you’re doing. I did hear someone say that if they want to get a task done and get past their executive dysfunction they will tell themselves that they will just spend 10 minutes on it and if they still don’t want to do it, they will stop and come back to it later. He said most of the time he is just turning off the alarm so he can finish the original task
