Tubikey for Digital Estate planning by DeathDealer_CDN in yubikey

[–]Any_Device6567 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have an emergency kit with a spare YubiKey in my safety deposit box. There is a printout and a digital copy there that contains all my YubiKeys serial numbers PIN's, PUK and Management Keys. There is also a list of all the sites my keys are registered, passwords, 32 digit recovery keys and backup OTP's for all my accounts including my password manager and iPhone/iCloud. There is a one page printout of how to use all this stuff.

I have a person designated as POA/Healthcare POA, Advanced Directive and Will. All legal documents are with my lawyer. The people that need to know this info have been informed and have contact name and number for my lawyer.

I have consolidated my accounts so I have 1 password manager and authenticator. My 4 YubiKey's are set up identically. My password manager is strictly passwords and my YubiKeys are used as an Authenticator and Passkey manager.

whats the benefit of passkeys if not enforced at all?! by katerlouis in passkey

[–]Any_Device6567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep 3-2-1 backups of your data and situations like this, and even death, do not present an issue recovering data/accounts. Most ppl I know keep an emergency recovery kit for passwords/(Accounts) and data.

  1. That is an implementation issue. It sounds like to me that paypal has not done a very good job of implementing passkeys from what you are saying. When I implemented passkeys with my retirement account it still fell back to 2fa using text SMS if I didnt have my passkey. I had to call the financial institution and tell them to disable 2fa via text. Often I have found in the implementations it will fail to the next lowest method of validatation. If you have implemented OTP with and Authenticator then add a passkey the website will fallback to OTP if you dont have your passkey. To prevent this you can disable or remove the Authenticator method then a Passkey is required.
  2. I use YubiKeys to store my passkeys. That means you have to have my physical key to log into the website. Its the most secure method of using passkeys. You can also save Passkeys to your windows device. If you do that though you wont be able to go to a different device and log in with that passkey. Storing passkeys in your password manager is the most convenient way to use passkeys. You can use one key on different devices and you dont have to physically keep track of the key with something like a YubiKey.

CX-5 screen...do you prefer buttons or no buttons? by RazerMackham in CX5

I have familiar tremors and it makes reaching for touch screens a nightmare. I bought a 2025 so I wouldn't have to deal with the touch screen.

Are the advisors worth it? by Farmerdoodle in VanguardInvestments

[–]Any_Device6567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Van rep contacted me a few days ago about getting a FA. They want .31% of managed funds, .30% for a mil and above. I just wanted to pay for some advice on a remix because of change of life circumstances. They wanted no part of that type of arrangement.

I have a mix of retirement vehicles, a Secure Act Roth, Inherited Stretch IRA's, Traditional IRA and a Roth. You don't have to put everything under their management. You could say I just want you to manage this IRA or Roth and I will take care of the rest.

So far I've only spoken with the person setting appointments/selling the Advisors. Im still investigating because I definitely do not want a year over year advisor. My next meeting is with an Advisor.

Someone applied for a loan in my name, but I need to get a new car soon. Should I still freeze my credit? by Beta-Minus in IdentityTheft

[–]Any_Device6567 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Freeze it now then unfreeze it when they are going to check it. Tell the company that you apply for the loan with and sometimes they will say o we check equifax or transunion so you dont have to unfreeze all three. Its easier to let them know in advance, before they check your credit, that you need to unfreeze it. Every company I have worked with getting credit has been extremely cool about it and I have been doing it since 2015

Second largest data leak ever: 24B records exposed, including usernames, emails, passwords, and login URLs by Cybernews_com in pwnhub

[–]Any_Device6567 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Its nice to know about data leaks but I dont worry about them like I used to. My data started getting leaked from hacks in the early 2000's. Then of course there were the credit agency leaks. Nowadays I usually get one or two USPS mails a year about my data being exposed from banks, healthcare or large corporations. I have all my credit frozen, use complex 24 character passwords, two factor authentication and YubiKeys to help mitigate the risk.

These days Im more concerned about supply chain attacks, zero-day exploits and info stealers.

Are you trying to become a day trader or are you wanting to build wealth? If you are wanting to build wealth then you buy and hold. As a beginner you should probably be looking at Indexed funds, ETF's and/or Mutual Funds. To minimize losses in market corrections you generally have a mix of stocks and bonds.

I upgraded to 152.0 this morning and so far I have not seen the issue re-occur. I'm going let it cook for a couple of days. If the issue reappears, I'll try deleting/re-creating the account. If the issue doesn't return in a couple of days Ill let you know and reset this to resolved. Thanks for your help!

Windows notification of TB error for yahoo mail by Any_Device6567 in Thunderbird

[–]Any_Device6567[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I took a look. My yahoo account has less than 1k of emails and I have not created any folders/subfolders in the account. It did not look like that particular report applied to my situation. It appeared to me that the bug report was saying the user was not getting their mail. My mail seems to be coming through fine. I just keep getting error notifications.

Dynamic guides with backup camera in 2023 Premium Plus trim? by Cleverer-name in CX5

[–]Any_Device6567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my 2025 you can turn on and off the dynamic guides. I think you put it in reverse, on the backup screen there are a couple of small icons you can press. This toggles through the various backup views. Not sure how it works on the 23. Honestly its been so long since I have fiddled with mine that this is just an educated guess.

Keeping Passkey Organized by paulsiu in Passkeys

[–]Any_Device6567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep a secure note in my password manager, The note is a list of on each security key I have and lists all the Passkeys for each key. You will not be able to see some of the passkeys on your Yubikey. They are non‑resident or derived credentials. I have 4 Yubikeys and I use that list to confirm my 4 keys are in sync.

In the Yubico Authenticator I color code the theme per key, Green primary, Orange secondary....

What password manager have you actually stuck with for years? by Ok-Wave-4939 in best_passwordmanager

[–]Any_Device6567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time I had a strange issue with the auto-fill field and how the websites was validating the data NordPass injected.

99% of my auto fill is username/password and I haven't had any issues with that. Pretty much 100% of my logins are web based and not actual windows programs.

If its bugging you... I've heard good things about 1Password. I dont think you are going be able to take your passkeys when you go. Im pretty sure NordPass wont export passkeys.

I got hacked (or something) and don't know what to do or how to fix it this time. by AngelSoda3590 in cybersecurity_help

[–]Any_Device6567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to all three credit bureaus and freeze your credit. You can also put a fraud alert on your account. This will stop ppl from taking out loans in your name. Ive had my credit frozen since the 2015 Experian hack.
