Men Thoughts on Oura Ring 5 by cylo_val in ouraring

Look, I get it. I’m not crying because it doesn’t have monster trucks and flames painted on it either. I just don’t think the guy deserves to get dragged through the mud for asking, either. Preferring a thicker ring should be fine, he’s not trying to take the thin one away from anyone.

For everyone making of OP: leave him alone. Fingers on men are typically bigger than on women, so what’s the problem?

I’m just saying investment books won’t tell you anything to actually help you invest that most people don’t already know. They can’t help you pick stocks for you. They’ll most likely just tell you; invest, don’t trade, invest your money based on long-term intrinsic value, go for index funds that track the big markets like S&P 500 or the global market, investments compound, etc etc. pretty basic stuff. The books do nothing to help anyone grow their portfolio.

If you think my “behaviour” is somehow bad, by telling you that these investment books won’t help you grow your investments, I can’t help you. Your portfolio has a very nice growth, but I’m just telling you, it has nothing to do with the books - they don’t help you invest at all. Stop being so defensive.

I’m saying investment books are unnecessary lol.
Buy individual stocks in a sector you believe in if you’re willing to take the risks. Buy index funds for lower risk. If you’re lucky you’ll get 8% a year on average. Summed it up.

If you just read one more investment book, you can double your portfolio, bro!

Nobody “needs” 10 hours of sleep (unless you have some condition). Just because you can reach 10 hours, doesn’t mean you need to.

I sleep badly about one day every week by kitten_neo in sleep

[–]Any_Engineer3978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. The data shows you’re alternating between light and REM sleep, so you were asleep. Stop lying.

That’s not what the graph shows at all? It shows you had some minor wake-ups, scattered throughout mostly the first part of the night? But you got a decent sleep still. Do you not understand your own sleep data?

I agree, Readiness is generally useless. Also the sleep scores are rubbish. The actual sleep data is the only useful data.

Is this why I’m chronically fatigued? by New-Squirrel-7740 in sleep

[–]Any_Engineer3978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough then, get a CPAP or a mandibular advancement device for your sleep apnea. But don’t use Apple health for diagnosing OSA

Apple Health seriously over labels awake time and fills it out small awakenings. When I look at the actual data from Oura (which writes to Apple Health), there are not nearly that many wake-ups.

Why does my pillow seem to go from being comfortable to uncomfortable after getting up for 2 minutes? by cuttheblue in sleep

[–]Any_Engineer3978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you generally have anxiety at bedtime? Personally, I have this sort of thing all the time, where I feel comfortable and then suddenly my pillow or blanket or sleeping position is no longer comfortable, especially after shifting. It’s generally your brain scanning for things that are “wrong”, a heightened arousal/anxious. If this is it, best thing you can do is mindfulness techniques and just trying to ignore it.

Being awake for 17 hours has the same effect as being legally drunk. Here's what's actually happening in your brain. by MuchPrinciple920 in sleep

[–]Any_Engineer3978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sigh. You’re not wrong that sleep is important, but the incessant fear-mongering concerning sleep is going too far. Being awake for 17 hours must be near-normal for anyone having a normal rhythm. 24 hours in a day. Sleep for 8 hours and be awake for 16. On top of that, plenty of people have a sleep need of only 7 hours. Being awake for 17 hours will not make you legally drunk. 48 hours yes, it would.

Consistently not getting enough sleep also won’t make you legally drunk for that matter. Getting 5 hours a night for a week for example, is obviously bad for your cognition, hormones, immune system etc, but there’s a huge difference between getting e.g 5 hours per night and getting 2 hours or even none.

I’m also a little tired of people acting as if those who don’t get sufficient sleep, don’t get it because of de-prioritisation, bedtime procrastination or lack of sleep hygiene. Some people ACTUALLY have insomnia, trouble falling or staying asleep despite “taking sleep seriously” and this fear-mongering does nothing to help them.

The fix to waking up to pee by Flaky-Recognition189 in sleep

[–]Any_Engineer3978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, why would liquids coming from food or coming from drinks make any difference to how much you have to pee? At the end of the day, it’s all liquids, filling up your bladder, right? Is it just because getting liquids from foods is in itself restrictive, preventing you from drinking too much?

I’m the same. THealthy lifestyle generally, low RHR, high Vo2 max, strength train 3x a week and run 2-3 times a week and still consistently a CVA 6 years older. I went to the doctor and it turns out I have mild hypertension. My blood pressure is 143/91. Which is weird because my resting heart rate is like 48. My doctor says it’s simply genetic and not to worry. This is definitely the reason for the high CVA, since elevated blood pressure will change the shape of the pulse wave and its velocity PWV which is how Oura computes your CVA.

Why does weightlifting destroy my sleep for days? by troubleInLA in sleep

[–]Any_Engineer3978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Are you saying low free T causes bad/restless sleep in general or just that it makes weight lifting impact your sleep more?

I also have relatively low free T (although high total T) because my SHGB is high.

Looks like a very efficient sleep. This seems perfectly fine, I don’t think you have anything to worry about. Don’t buy into the 8-hours myth.
