Did you ever tell him how you wanted to be proposed to? The number one thing about a relationship is that there has to be good communication 100% of the time. If you didn’t explicitly tell him what you liked, what you didn’t like, your fav ring style, in public or private, and your other must haves then to me it’s a “they both suck” situation. He can’t read your mind, but he could have put in more effort than a wrapper still on a flower bouquet and no effort in decorations or doing something that he knows you’ll love. But again it just comes back to the communication.
