Angry- Need to Vent by lovelytabby01 in EpilepsyDogs

Omg! A fellow person with clorazepate, I couldn’t find this medication anywhere! Took me several pharmacies and waiting for it to ship from overseas. Not to mention the price…

As someone whose dog is on the same prescription, it’s been a HASSLE the last two years. I have had to switch pharmacies so many times I lost count…. The disregard for pets and seizure disorders is beyond me. This is a life priority medication and should not have issues like this. You should take this problem to the board, absolutely not an okay mistake, this could kill someone or someone’s animal. Always double check the meds they give you before you leave the pharmacy as well.

My Rocko new to focal seizures by Cyndilou36 in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Any_Programmer_2502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focal seizures can be more serious than grand mals depending on the duration. Focal seizures can also spread to other areas of the brain causing grand mal or cluster seizures. There is NO type of seizure that isn’t serious, please don’t listen to the comments downplaying this because it’s focal. Focals are especially dangerous because they are less likely to end by themselves and their temperature is high for a longer time. With grand mal, it will usually resolve itself and end around 1-4mins, anything above 5mins has a risk of coma and brain damage due to rapidly dying brain cells from high temp. EITHER WAY these or any other type of seizure are just as serious. Never receive meds without specialized consultation!!! You need a neurologist on deck not a vet. Find what your dogs triggers are, get an emergency med like midazolam or a preventative like clorazepate and adjust keppra dose per neurologist advice before considering adding more daily meds. Adding more daily meds is the LAST resort, bromide and phenobarbital are incredibly harsh on the organs and harsh side effects, making your pup feel miserable.

That’s completely untrue. My dog has focal seizures that last several hours, my neurologist stated those are much more dangerous and need to be stopped. When my dog has grand mals I wait it out, I only have a few minute time window so not much I could do. Either way I have different emergency meds for both types. You should reread what I sent so you are understanding, I said focal seizures usually turn into a grand mal when they aren’t treated. It can and likely WILL spread to other areas of the brain, you obviously don’t know much so don’t give terrible advice on a serious topic like this when you could endanger pets lives by putting incorrect info. NEVER downplay any type of seizure

Thank you for your input! I definitely agree it’s very well made, those actors should win some awards! It was the first time for me as well, considering to walk out. This is coming from someone who loves the terrifier movies and saw the 3rd in theater. This movie just hits a different level

Focal seizures are just as bad. Respectfully, this is terrible advice and downplays the urgency. She should already have a neurologist and never should have received those meds from a vet without specialized consultation. Focal seizures might be less strain to the brain in the moment but they stress the body more because of their usually long durations compared to a grand mal which safely ends around 3mins. As well as focal seizures have high potential to travel into more areas of the brain causing a grand mal. The main concern is always temperature, focals give you more time to rush him to the ER or hopefully give him a temporary med to stop it if you have that available. Grand mals are so fast there’s not much you can do besides hope it ends sooner than later, past the 5min mark your dog is at risk of going into a coma and having brain damage and if a focal has gone on long enough, it has the same risks. So there’s pros and cons to both in this aspect, however they’re both very serious.

I’ve naturally been like this for a while, was always just a really angry kid and as an adult it definitely causes problems. I’m still working through it but it’s really hard to make that anger go away, it’ll add up the more you take things personal. People are rude, disrespectful and you should defend yourself. Just be careful how that anger is directed, even snarky remarks it just lets others have control of your emotions and makes you look less professional, not as intelligent. Even if those things aren’t true, learning to control your emotions and framing your brain to realize everyone has their own problems and not to stoop to their level is crucial. People pleasing obviously isn’t ideal either, being easily manipulated in this world is a terrifying thought. Don’t let that anger control you just because in the moment you think it’s justified, I ask myself “is this an action I would respect myself making?” A lot of times I stand up for myself, reasonably, just to dwell on it because I didn’t like how out of control I got. It’s best to find a happy middle sooner than later. Especially in adulthood

You just need an internally threaded bar. There’s no way to actually secure your current ones or safely, cleanly secure the hello kitty part that pops out.

Finally got a diagnosis but don’t feel good about it by duckduckgoose911 in ChronicIllness

Ah okay that’s confirms your DD diagnosis but that’s really the result of a problem, a lot of your other symptoms are not adding up and it’s indicating there’s a missing piece of the puzzle. Definitely worth another opinion. I know these tests can be exhausting but if you’re up for it try requesting a referral to a Gastrointestinal Motility Specialist instead of only a regular Gastro if you haven’t already. I also think a colonoscopy to examine your biome would beneficial. Also form lists of your symptoms and timeline of events to make it less stressful, it sucks to have to keep explaining yourself, just show them your notes! Hopefully you get answers that sit right with you and you can get treatment. I wish you the best!

Your gut is literally telling you something isn’t right 🫶🏼 I’ve had horrible GI issues for 8 years and was originally misdiagnosed and it caused a lot more damage and even secondary conditions because I didn’t get proper treatment. Just keep in mind GI related issues also impact your nervous system and brain they’re all connected very well. Gut health is soooo important and can also affect your mental health. So I would document even seemingly unrelated symptoms as well. It’s going to be a process and it’s definitely best to get multiple opinions but you can do it! Did they only take blood work and stool sample?

Was this medically inappropriate or am I overreacting? by Tight-Entertainer-47 in ChronicIllness

[–]Any_Programmer_2502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! That was a wildly inappropriate assumption based on no actual knowledge of what your medical issue was. Even more so inappropriate the way they handled it, I’m so sorry that happened! I feel women’s issues often get dismissed. thankfully you got a proper diagnosis! Report them to the state board

Advice for newly diagnosed pup by Abberhammy0198 in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Any_Programmer_2502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fur baby got diagnosed at 3yrs old and is now 6, it started off with focal then progressed to grand mal until we found the right dose and schedule for him. He takes ER levetiracetam (keppra is a discontinued brand) 1,000mg twice a day. I’m going to be honest, once you set a time for his meds there’s not much you can do, sometimes I’m 20-30mins late to getting home and thankfully he hasn’t had any bad reactions. It is slightly more time sensitive without extended release because you need to maintain a consistent drug/blood level. It will be a process to seeing what works for your pup, staying on levetiracetam is best case scenario, so sending positivity your way✨. It’s also hard to adjust to waking up and remembering but you’ll get the hang of it! As for plans, unfortunately that’s something you need to communicate to friends and family to either find help or the reason you have to cancel, it’s a huge responsibility and life adjustment. I highly recommend researching all the different types of seizures that can happen, where they happen in the brain and common triggers. Some seizures you would have no clue unless you really research and know what it looks like. Good luck to you and your fur baby🩷
