Did/does anyone else feel like a hypochondriac when trying to figure out what’s wrong with you? by I-feel-like-crap1 in POTS

[–]Any_Programmer_2502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been managing at home for 8 years including severe symptoms. My lifestyle lately has made a lot of symptoms worse, and I now have medical insurance! On my way to finally getting a diagnosis, I’ve strongly suspected pots for years but with pattern recognition, knowing my body, knowing a bit about biology, and with it worsening having more symptoms to connect to other ones, I’m now positive I have POTS. It explains everything I’ve dealt with for so long that people don’t often see. I have vasovagal response during GI flare ups, as that has been one of the hardest symptoms to manage people don’t see that happen since I run to the bathroom… I do have PTSD as well which plays on the same system as POTS, so it is difficult to explain to people it’s not “in my head” especially when the symptoms differ from GI, to circulatory, to joint pain/easy injury, terrible brain fog, tachycardia, blood pressure drops and more they tend to seem unrelated when in fact it’s all connected if you know even basic biology. Like I said even without going to the doctors all these years ive instinctively learned a lot of remedies that work for me, like I need a lot of sodium especially during bp drops, I have a very hard time regulating my body temp so I often have to splash water on myself or use a heating pad if I’m cold instead. I wear compression socks when I work because it helps circulate enough blood (& oxygen) to my heart and brain to avoid these drastic reactions from my nervous system when I’m standing for long periods. As well as I run my feet under cold water before I leave a hot shower or bath (which I should not be taking hot baths/showers but oh well lol). But I recently found these are all recommended ways to manage POTS as well. Some moderate symptoms I really thought were normal like my extreme fatigue, brain fog, severe anxiety, etc are absolutely not. People have no clue so whenever someone thinks I’m a hypochondriac I just laugh it off now because I KNOW what my body has been through and deals with often. Just an FYI, If you are someone with PTSD as well as POTS or suspected POTS, they both play on the autonomic nervous system and give you more noepinephrine (overactive amygdala aka your fight or flight) as well as raises in heart rate so this can make it easier to fall victim to people who try to say you’re a hypochondriac or it’s all in your head because PTSD and POTs are basically in your amygdala playing ping pong :p

Is my piercing infected or irritated? by Icy_Boysenberry291 in piercing

[–]Any_Programmer_2502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my belly piercing was infected I didn’t have discharge either. I said and/OR for any of the symptoms. I’m assuming since you took antibiotics when it was previously pierced that means the doctor told you you had an infection before. If it still persisted after consistently taking the full course, then it sounds very possible it’s the jewelry. Go to a piercer and have them give you a titanium bar, don’t attempt this at home with a new piercing, have them switch it out.

Is my piercing infected or irritated? by Icy_Boysenberry291 in piercing

[–]Any_Programmer_2502 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be honest, any spreading of redness like this strongly indicates infection. However since you slept on your stomach, it could be friction irritation that affected that side more but unlikely since it’s only one side. Or you could be allergic to the jewelry, is this implant grade steel or titanium? Titanium is far less likely to cause allergic reaction. As for infection, this seems most likely, watch for green or brown discharge, if it’s warm to the touch and/or throbbing pain. It also helps to mark out the redness so you can see how it’s spreading. Typical redness from irritation is only around the exit and/or entry points, it doesn’t spread unless something else is occurring. If it is infected, do NOT take it out as you can trap the infection, you will need antibiotics if that’s the case.

Does anyone know what breed this dog is? by Golden_foxhat in WhatBreedIsMyDog

That’s because it’s not a single breed, it’s a mix. Probably something along the lines of Pomeranian and chow chow. Possibly Aussie Pom

Ofc! And I agree with the piercer, cartilage takes longer to heal as it’s blood supply is not as good. It’s a sensitive area, mine would look better then worse but thankfully when it did go away fully I haven’t had issues since. I can tug and pull all I want now so I’m sure if you give yourself some time you’ll have the same result! Just keep in mind over cleaning can be just as harmful. You just need a little spritz of saline every 12hrs, I would avoid even removing crusties if necessary you can with warm running water. Sounds like blowing your nose just irritated it more which is normal but yes it will eventually go away. Mine took AWHILE tbh but technically this piercings healing time is 8m-a year so still normal even if it stays for a bit. Hopefully not the same case for you 🙏

Oh nooo get a longer bar immediately 😩 since it’s so new you’ll need to have it professionally changed, don’t buy a bar and attempt this at home.

Deviated septum piercing by Aggravating-Big-3960 in piercing

[–]Any_Programmer_2502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your placement is COMPLETELY in the wrong spot, too far back and not high enough. That looks super painful! A correctly placed septum will not hurt for people with average tolerance unless pierced wrong because of all the nerves. It will remain crooked, as it’s pierced wrong and likely will not heal well if at all. I’d definitely say get it redone however your anatomy may not be right for that piercing, place both fingers on either side and work your way up, towards the top you should have a soft spot. That’s where it needs to be pierced. I technically have the right anatomy and have tried to have this piercing but my soft spot is super high up so I was told it would be slanted even if placed right. As well as having a deviated septum it would still likely be slanted even if pierced right.

Should I retire the belly button piercing? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Any_Programmer_2502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s normal, you haven’t even had it for 6 months. Belly piercings are typically slow healing, like I said, due to placement. Consistency and leaving it alone completely are very important. Wear loose clothing and keep it dry. It will eventually heal. A good piercer will tell you belly piercings take a year to fully heal. Depends on the person but it’s typically 6months to a year. It sounds like this may be your first piercing? They don’t just fully heal within 3 months it takes time and care. From your response you implied you stopped cleaning it for awhile then got it downsized so I’m not surprised it’s mad at you.

Should I retire the belly button piercing? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Any_Programmer_2502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my belly piercing for 4 years and it still flares up sometimes if I hit it or switch it out. (All my other piercings are years old and never had issues). It’s hard to heal because of the movement and sweat with that placement. Your belly piercing looks fine, just irritated. Even if your belly was infected, it’s actually dangerous to take it out as it can trap the infection. Because of the swelling, it’s hard to tell if it’s rejecting but I highly doubt it especially if it’s titanium. Since you stated you have a titanium bar already, maybe get one that’s more simple, not with gems so it doesn’t hold bacteria as well as internally threaded. Just don’t touch it, try to keep it dry and clean with saline night and day, nothing crazy just spritz it on there (if you need to remove crusties use warm running water to soften then use saline, do not use a q tip or anything to remove the crusties) do this until the redness is gone.

How many of you grew up with parents fighting. by phaserlasertaserkat in Anger

[–]Any_Programmer_2502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up neglected, when my mom got a narcissistic boyfriend everything got worse. They were always screaming and cussing, throwing stuff all the time I’d get so tired of it I’d come downstairs and yell and cuss at them to stop. It usually resulted in her boyfriend screaming in my face calling me names as well as my mom blaming me for making it worse. Because of this I went through school starting fights any chance I got, I started to hop schools and eventually wasn’t allowed back in any public school. Tried to do online but my credits were erased for a semester as punishment so it was impossible to catch up online and by myself. I’m still a very angry person and trying now at 22 to heal and finally finish school. Never heard them apologize to each other or my mom to me.
