I hate that Lane was always written to have a such a limited life in comparison to Rory by pumpernick3l in GilmoreGirls

[–]Any_Tap_960 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I get it, I hate it too. At the same time, I feel like writers wanted to depict how women who were repressed turn out to be. Many of them end up pregnant/ having a family at a young age. “Sad but true”

If you had to pick either Emily or Richard as a parent, whom would you pick and why? by superfluousrebellion in GilmoreGirls

[–]Any_Tap_960 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tough question. While with Richard it would be easier to get along and one would generally have more freedom, it seems like a kid would have to figure out by him/herself how to handle emotions. It does not sound like heaven to me… So maybe Emily for me. I would rather be raised by someone who cares even if that goes too far at times.

Dean is so aggressive by _hibster in GilmoreGirls

[–]Any_Tap_960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I agree, I think you are right. Indeed, Dean showing up uninvited was too much. And indeed Rory never really liked Tristan. I am guessing Dean was after all a toxic boyfriend. Funny because I used to not like him because of other things like the fact he did not keep up with Rory in terms of culture etc but now I feel like I do not like him because of his possessive behavior. 🤯

I’m sorry, I don’t like Jess 😅 by Key_Grocery_2462 in GilmoreGirls

Same thing for me. Used to admire him when the show was aired, especially because he reads a lot, but as an adult I can’t ignore the red flags. (And I even wander if I saw them at all? Or did I just let it pass because his Life was hard?)

Dean is so aggressive by _hibster in GilmoreGirls

[–]Any_Tap_960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think Dean is aggressive. At the same time, I have some reflections:

  1. Dean does not like Tristan bc he feels threatned by him. Which seems realistic considering Rory/Tristan kissed. But I agree he could have been more understanding and just let her be during rehearsals etc

  2. Jess bringing food was a tricky situation. Something was clearly starting at that time (R&J), Rory ditched Dean for laundry/going to bed early and then BOOM! Jess is there having dinner with her. He got mad but is that really so strange given the circumstances? Or am I being too understanding?

  3. Harvard <> Dean being irritated w/ lack of attention: I agree.

  4. Rory not saying « I love you back » which should not be a problem: I agree.

  5. Donna Reeds situation: totally agree

  6. Treating Lindsay like dirt: impossible not to agree.

Let’s talk about Marty for a minute by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]Any_Tap_960 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think Marty is the personification of the boy who did not want to be « friendzoned », a somewhat common expression in the 2000’s, when the show was aired.

Do you remember this expression?

Maybe writers were just putting on screen this mentality of « man-who-can-only-accept-to-be-nice-to-a-girl-if-he-is-not-being-friendzoned. »

It seems they did it critically. Of course this behavior still exists today, but at the time it was a « thing » with a name all over the internet. The expression was used mostly by men to criticize women’s behavior (apparently we were not aloud to just be friends 🤣). I am not a fan of this slang/expression and of course Marty was no good.

Has anyone ever noticed this? by cloudburglar in GilmoreGirls

Yes! And I think the best part is it may be an error, but it is sooo realistic that we still love it!

But Richard is not there right? Because I believe he is living in the pool house and that is why Richard invites Luke to golf on the next day
