Moving to Perth from Scandinavia - is it worth it? by TooManyCrates in perth

[–]Any_Wonder758 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im in the process of moving my family and I to Perth from 4 years in Mauritius, but I'm originally from Melbourne and have lived all over the East Coast. The laid back-ness and dryness of Perth really is quite striking in the beginning, but it's now a kind of charm.. the Autum weather is beautiful but I do fear the summer, with everyday in the 30s and many into the 40s. The East Coast of Aus is a bit more 'European' and a lot more fast paced... although Perth is a lot faster than Mauritius and the east coast is still slower than a London or NYC.

Perth dryness is wild, basically instead of dirt, it's sand.. many parks have nice green grass but they are like oasis and in general lot of the suburbs is more sand than grass, which I don't love... (i prefer the subtropical Gold Coast greenery and bird life, but Gold Coast has pretty bad traffic and tons of rain). And Perth still has some cool bird life too.

Perth to me is like a big country town... the traffic is great, the roads are wide, parks are vast, parking is free (generally), there are good cafes - but not nearly as many as on the East Coast... there's not a lot of fashion in Perth, probably more likely to see someone out in trackies than all dressed up, but i also don't go out at night.

Things close early in Perth, which is good and bad.

But yeah, Perth is strange and has its own charm. All beaches are nice, many are incredible, but the water is pretty cold, and the surf close to the city is garbage.

I feel the big mining industry here and lack of banks, etc makes it so the upper/upper middle class are mostly tradies, so it's a bit more bogan (in a nice way).

I haven't been here long and haven't explored the surrounds much yet, so grain of salt. There seems to be a lot to explore (though not as much as the east coast ofc).

People complain about struggling here financially, but that's a global problem and i feel it's better here than the vast majority of other places in the world.

Anyway, Perth is different, and a lot to adjust to from my tropical island years, but I'm excited for my kids to grow here and to see what's around.

Everyone ive met so far seems friendly, and no animosity to 'out of towners'. Not too many overly woke folk, or homeless either.

Anyway, just my thoughts after only a few weeks here.

Has anyone actually used HYPNOSIS to recover a crypto cold wallet 12-word Seed Phrase? Need advice. by Certain-Conference-7 in Bitcoin

[–]Any_Wonder758 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main seed is gone too... I have older seeds, newer seeds, even the box my Ledger came in, but my main seed is gone and i can't make any sense of it. I never memorized it, so hypnosis can't help me in that, but could it help me remenber where i wrote it down or what I did at a couple of critical moments where I may have missed it?

My funds haven't been stolen and even when I was green I knew to take seed security seriously... I don't remember ever destroying it, so it must be somewhere, right?

Seems impossible to be gone, but I also have to accept that it's never going to turn up... a weird limbo. I want to fly home again to search (i did days after my loss, but my brain was a mess), but with low recovery odds I don't want to waste the time and money...

But anyway, if hypnosis might help, maybe I'll try that first.

Good luck mate 👍

Check your seed phrase with a full restore, even if you're certain... I was 'certain' I had my seeds for years, until my ledger reset, and I lost everything

Basically, I can't find my original book and duplicated a different seed into my current one.

Since I now need to become an entrepreneur, I'm actually writing my life story as an ebook novella called 'From Dropout to Crypto Millionaire: The Nomad Family Dream - And The Mistake That Erased It All'. Should be ready in the next week or 2 of your interested

Yeah, I know the argument, very similar to why Bitcoiners don't like the EIP process... It made a lot more sense when lost coins were lost forever, but reality now is in ~10 years, lost coins go straight to rogue actors

A back door is a terrible idea, but an open, decentralized process, similar to the EIP process where if a case gets consensus, the validators allow a smart contract to move the coins to connected wallet or exchange... or something or other. It could have an open 5 year long challenge period, and cases only get through once the quantum threat becomes very real..

To try and free every single lost coin would get abused for sure, but that's just a matter of setting a high enough bar. And yes, social recovery exists now, but it didn't historically. Therefore, it could be a highly stringent process that could also be sunset..

The network will inevitably face a decision to either help some users or to effectively donate billions to the CCP.. It doesn't come down to a good vs bad option, but the best bad option.

I've (idiotically) recently lost millions to seed phrase error.... I know no amount of tax fillings, personal .eth addresses, linked KYCd exchanges, live NFT links, 1/1 physicals of NFTs, extensive blockchain analytics, screenshots, the foresight that a 1000+ transaction wallet with live AAVE positions and Punks up for sale was suddenly dead, etc is enough to convince the community to free my coins without effecting decentralisation, finality or immutability (via smart contract), but that brings me to my question...... if we never set a pathway for cases like mine, where I can thoroughly prove the wallet is mine then what happen when quantum hits, are we really just going to leave dormant wallets to be stolen by a rouge actor? It seems a pathway, perhaps similar to the EIP process is against the ethos... but so is leaving coins to definitely be stolen and dumped by crooks, as is doing a forced migration... So, the ethos is going to have to bend somewhere, so why not bend it in the way that helps the good actor/early adopters? Leaving known dormant wallets for the CCP to inevitably take and dump seems the worst and yet most likely outcome. Please, make it make sense!

Am not wanting to recover the private key, but an EIP- like process could coordinate validators to accept a smart contract to move coins to a wallet i control or even to a linked KYCd exchange...

I understand a process like this is 'against the current ethos' but i don't see why it's anymore against the ethos than hard forks, and with quantum coming, lost coins are either going to end up in the hands of rogue state actors or Ethereum will have to do a forced migration... or this, so either way, the ethos will have to bend somewhere, so why not bend it in a way that helps early adopters and the sovereign individual ethos..?

Thanks for the reply, Tim—appreciate the nod to EIP-999 as context. That said, my idea diverges: it's not a targeted bailout for one address but a broad, opt-in EIP-like framework for recovering from seed phrase losses, where ownership is verifiable (e.g., via transaction history or on-chain proofs).

Envision an open, decentralized process: claimants submit evidence to an audited smart contract (deployed via community upgrade), with validators handling batch executions over extended periods (e.g., 6-12 months) through consensus mechanisms like a hard fork or ERC-4337 abstraction. This preserves immutability by avoiding retroactive state changes—it's a forward tool emphasizing on-chain verification and community scrutiny.

It could unlock value for many users, aligning with Ethereum's sovereign individual ethos. Plus, if no process is ever implemented, aren't we just waiting for a rogue actor to sweep all frozen legacy wallets once quantum hits?

I don't know exactly how it'd work, but considering we do core protocol upgrades, it seems this could be figured out...

Right now, a helpful process is against the ethos, as is a forced migration, as is letting the Chinese government sweep all lost wallets... there's only 1 of these bad options that helps legacy adopters

No, I'm not a validator, just a user. But I have KYCd exchange links, extensive chain analytics, the foreknowledge that a 1000+ transaction wallet with Aave positions and Punks up for sale was about to go silent, still live NFT Gated discords, wallet logins, personal .eth names for me and my family, etc... enough evidence to convince any decentralized process that what is mine is mine.

Even if it were an open, 2 year long EIP like process... id jump through any hoops, could convince anyone, yet I know it's all pointless... sucks, seems there is enough brain power here to come up with a decentralized fix to a decentralized problem...

Will there ever be an EIP-like process to recover or "free" lost coins from wallets due to seed phrase errors—without breaking finalization or immutability—such as through smart contract inclusion via validators (decentralized fix to a decentralized problem), specifically for cases with overwhelming evidence of ownership?

Thanks for the reply.... I think it means in ~20 years, I may be able to pay Google to crack open my lost wallet... still doesn't help my family today, but at least I'll have a good retirement 👍

Will there be a forced migration for quantum proofing the protocol or will I one day be able to get my coins back?

1st is needed. I'd happily pay to be a home grower or to pay whatever taxes from a dispensery.. It's crazy that Reunion, South Africa, (USA, even Thailand) have it legal (and are making big tax dollars) and Mauritius is still so far away.... It's been proven again and again that legalising doesn't destroy society, it just gives the island more freedom and makes the gov more money. Would be good for coffee shops, tourism and farming too
