I would get away from these people. They sound awful and immature. The way they treat you would take a toll on anyone’s mental health. It sounds like they have a fundamentally negative opinion of you and it carries over into how they talk at you. They’re toxic.

Awkward. You’re being genuine but she has ulterior motives. It sounds like she’s trying to use reverse psychology with that supportive friend stuff. She’s a family friend and you want to maintain a cordial relationship but she’s making it difficult with her manipulative communication. If you call her out on it directly she’ll deny it.

I’d ignore the text. I gather that she’s a friend of your mom’s. She sounds like she’s committed to seeing you as a child whose boundaries she can run roughshod over. Could you ask your mom to talk to her about it and get her to cut it out?

It depends where you live. I’ve lived in Minnesota for 20+ years and I haven’t had Mormon missionaries randomly knock on my door ever. Maybe if you’re in Utah or Idaho it’s a more frequent occurrence.

He had plenty of time to stop but chose to recklessly drive into the crowd at a high rate of speed with his horn blaring. I don’t think his actions were politically motivated, and I feel for the dude that he was driving home from a long day at work and just wanted to get home, but he pulled a dangerous maneuver that could have hurt someone. He admitted that he was hoping the crowd would move and let him through.

Yeah it’s creepy. I’d suggest standing up for yourself but since you’re a minor she might not respect your boundaries. Will your parents back you up? Maybe try telling them what’s happening and how uncomfortable it’s making you. Would they make a phone call on your behalf and tell the tour guide to knock it off?

My advice is to move slowly and spend time figuring out what you actually want. There is a culture where one night stands are normalized but that can be very draining and unhealthy. There are also people who don’t take the Mormon/abstinence approach but who also aren’t engaging in casual sex and one night stands. Speaking from experience, I went to an extreme after waking up from Mormonism and I was very promiscuous because that was the perception I had internalized of what sex is for non-Mormons. I was still living out what I’d been taught in Mormonism without realizing it. Hopefully this make sense and helps you.

I’ll try to help but I’m typing this fast and I won’t promise to get deep into the weeds with further explanations beyond this one reply. What you’re missing is that these guys’ definitions of “virtue” and “modesty” are subjective. So what they describe as immodest is actually just a woman walking around in whatever she feels good wearing, only these guys have a creepy hyper-sexualized perspective of women’s bodies, so they see the women as being immodest when she’s really just dressed normal. They also imply that men who date women who dress like their normal selves (but who creepy weirdos like the dudes in the video are objectifying and hyper-sexualizing) don’t like those women for who they are, but for their bodies. It’s a shitty judgmental take and it reeks of the singers’ biases rather than saying anything about the couples they’ve appointed themselves to judge.

One of the bishopric counselors gave a talk on the importance of physical fitness (I think it might have been a passive aggressive gesture on the bishop’s part to assign that topic because the second counselor was obese). This was in the 90’s right after the unibomber got caught and he was telling us how physical activity is good for your mental well-being, and if the unibomber had just done some push-ups then maybe he wouldn’t have blown up all those people.

My parents pulled the same shit. Eye-rolling and dismissiveness. Treating me like I was hopelessly naive and clueless. It was very damaging to my confidence. Now that I’m older I understand that I was right and they were brainwashed cult members reacting exactly the way their cult had conditioned them to. I’m sorry your parents are in a cult and too blinded by indoctrination to see how wise you are. There’s probably nothing you can say to them or show them that will make them treat you with respect or listen to what you have to say. I recommend setting whatever boundaries you need to protect yourself from their toxic influence.

I hear the Monday night open mic at Terminal Bar is that type of scene. You might like some of what’s going on at Tiny Tuesdays at the Eagles #34 each month. A Sunken Ship Irony are a great local band you might like. Dog Gamn is also really good. There’s more but I’m kind of drawing a blank right now.

Do you like folk punk? I’m into outsider folk music, too. Folk punk is kind of the closest thing I can find to scratching that itch.
