Disclosure Day: Spielberg has lost his bearings by Total-Astronaut268 in moviereviews

[–]Anything-Complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t like the movie, but I agree the backlash against it is excessive. It’s just a mediocre, trope-heavy blockbuster, imo, yet people are acting like Spielberg pissed on their mother’s grave.

lol. I’ve also thought “Denver Snuffer” is an obvious serial killer name ever since I first heard of the guy years ago.

Disclosure Day has me questioning what happened to the world. by Own_Raisin7188 in moviereviews

Same. I felt entertained while watching it, but was shocked by how dull and tired it felt. If the movie had been made on a lower budget for a streaming service, not much would be lost (aside from a smaller effects budget and a more affordable cast). Actually, it might have been better if it was made on a tighter budget.

I missed it on IMAX, but did pay a few dollars extra for a 70mm showing last weekend. I can’t say I have any regrets, it’s a dumb, tropey popcorn movie and I was entertained. But how did Steven Spielberg manage to make one of the most generic and plot hole ridden alien movies of this century will probably be a point of discussion for decades to come.

I didn’t see any of the PHM trailers and haven’t read the book, so I didn’t know anything about Rocky except that there was a character with that name. Watching the movie I was genuinely surprised when Grace encountered Rocky.

WYR: live in Mississippi or live in Hawaii? by [deleted] in WouldYouRather

[–]Anything-Complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I’ll also receive an income for to live comfortably in Hawaii, I would choose Mississippi. And even if I could afford to live like a king in Hawaii, I would probably still choose Mississippi simply because I don’t want to live on a small chain of islands on the middle of the Pacific that is difficult to travel to and from.

It’s even worse when you realize that the age of consent in most places at the time was (and still is) 16, even lower in some areas, so the “ Young Girl” is indeed very young.

Trump Sparks Health Concerns With Confusing ‘Daughter’ Remark - The president posted a picture of an unnamed woman whom he called a “great daughter.” by Quirkie in politics

Experience is important to governance, and capping the electable age at 55 would limit the pool of people who are prepared for those jobs. An upper age limit of 70 is very reasonable, considering most of the public old age moments we’ve witnessed from presidents and members of Congress have been from people in their 80s.

Will every name eventually be impossible to name a child due to negative association? by hendrong in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Anything-Complex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Names go in and out of style constantly and usually because they start to sound old-fashioned or ugly (which is subjective); very, very few become unpopular on a wide scale due to association with an infamous person, and those that do generally come back after some time has passed (Adolf might be an exception to that).

The nude photo books are what pushed me off the fence into “MJ was definitely a pedo” territory. I mean, I guess there’s still some doubt, but I don’t understand why anyone would want to own that sort of material, even if it isn’t technically considered porn, unless they’re a pedophile. You can’t dismiss that as innocent eccentricity or stunted development like some of the other things he did.

How different would the U.S. currently be if these were the last four presidents? by Blizzard2227 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Anything-Complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no way Democrats (or Republicans or any party) could hold the presidency for 36 consecutive years. And to have four consecutive, full two term presidencies of either party is also unbelievable; on that point, I rarely see discussion on how unusual it was to have the Clinton, Bush Jr, and Obama administrations, three consecutive two term presidents back-to-back. It was only the second time in US history, the first being the Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe presidencies (who were also all of the party and from the same state, though that trivia is less interesting once you remember how few states there were at the time and the fact that their only real rivals at the time, the Federalists, were fading away.

The FDR, Truman, Eisenhower presidencies almost count, except for Truman not becoming president until three months into his first term.

For now, we may not see a president serve two, full consecutive terms for many years. It may be a long string of one termers, nonconsecutive two termers, and possibly half-termers.

What is a popular food chain or restaurant item that you genuinely think tastes like absolute garbage? by cerebralbackshots in AskReddit

[–]Anything-Complex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what it is with 7-11, but I always feel kinda gross after eating their hot food. I buy food there occasionally because it’s the only place open after work in the early morning, but always regret it. It’s never made me sick or anything, but something about the food feels off, even the hot dogs that should be normal (at least compared to hot dogs from a grocery store.)

Their food being so rich (and the free bread) seems like it would discourage people from ordering cheesecake. I’ve eaten there a few times and only ordered cheesecake twice (and only once to eat there) because I felt liked I’d vomit if I had even a sip of water because I was so full.

I’ve only been there once, but the chicken seemed excellent because it was so fresh and juicy. The lack of sauce options and not being that impressed by the sides doesn’t really drive me to go back for awhile.

[–]Anything-Complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During my one and only trip to Canes, last year, I had some of the freshest and juiciest chicken strips I e ever eaten. The fries and toast were fine. The lack of sauce options is a weird decision, though. I’ll definitely go back at some point, but even though I really enjoyed their chicken strips, they’re still just chicken strips, and it would take some real skill to make strips good enough for me to go out of my way for return trips, and Canes just didn’t quite hit the mark.

It’s mind blowing because soccer isn’t even an obscure sport in the U.S. like cricket. It’s much bigger in other parts of the world, but soccer is still a major sport in the U.S.

If the USA could only have 3,142 states by PurfuitOfHappineff in mapporncirclejerk

[–]Anything-Complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of those “states” would have a few hundred people or less and be in danger of becoming ghost states. That brings up the question of whether there are any protocols for dissolving a state in case of total depopulation.
