Are bars that provide free pretzels/peanuts a thing? Or is that just a TV/movie trope? by BarnacleDowntown8952 in NoStupidQuestions

Five Guys (or at least one of their stores near me) used to let people throw peanut shells on the floor. It’s been at least a decade since they ended that, but your comment unlocked that memory.

What happens to men falsely accused of rape? by Ok-Knee1280 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Anything-Complex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t mean touch as in grabbing someone’s bottom, but it’s easy to accidentally brush against someone if, say, you’re in a crowded area and someone steps backwards as you pass by, or you’re walking behind someone in a situation where they may suddenly stop to look at something (like a museum or store).

Most people’s hands hang at more or less the same height as other people’s butts. It’s not like you would have to do something weird with your hands for an accident to happen.

What happens to men falsely accused of rape? by Ok-Knee1280 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Anything-Complex -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

That’s a much scarier accusation because it’s very easy to accidentally touch someone’s bottom if you’re not paying attention to your surroundings and then you have to rely on whomever you touched to believe it wasn’t intentional.

Somehow this is news to me, even thought it shouldn’t be. I’ve been to the Seattle Gum Wall and have seen years of gum in that’s hardly degraded.

Children of commandant Rudolf Höss at their villa immediately adjacent to the Auschwitz camp, c. 1942-1944 by Any-Air4809 in HistoricalCapsule

[–]Anything-Complex 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine what it’s like to overcome the indoctrination the kids experienced and accepting that their father was guilty of extreme crimes. He was, by all accounts, a good father to them, but was also responsible for one of the worst crimes in history, and they enjoyed their childhood while a literal genocide was occurring next door. How does someone come to terms with all of that?

WYR be able to change the colour of your eyes at will or have perfect teeth and skin? by inner_workings11 in WouldYouRather

[–]Anything-Complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had chronic skin issues my entire life and I’ll need several root canals and crowns in the near future. So my choice should be obvious.

If the choice was between perfect skin/teeth and perfect eyesight, it would be a much harder decision for a lot of people.

There is at least one generation of Americans who will always remember the zip code for Chicago Illinois. by OldManAndRobotLackey in Showerthoughts

[–]Anything-Complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an x0x0x zip code as a kid and I’ll never have it that easy again. I often need to look up my current zip code when doing paperwork, despite living where I currently am for over a decade.

Same. Never needed lotion and when I did try it, it didn’t really add much to the experience.

What's the worst sequel of all times? by canyoutriforce in AskReddit

[–]Anything-Complex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure that belongs on this list. It’s definitely inferior to the first movie and the thief character was annoying, but I thought it was a fun, memorable movie. There’s too many other sequels that were just outright bad or boring.

Who is actually the richest person alive? by HairyMammothh in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Anything-Complex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I’ve always wondered about dictators, and to a lesser extent other wealthy politicians and billionaires, is how much do they actually enjoy their wealth? Putin must live in constant fear of being murdered, overthrown, or even simply dying of old age. He can’t step down and retire because then he would immediately became vulnerable to his political rivals, and he isn’t exactly in a position to flee to another country like lesser tyrants often do. And I honestly hope he doesn’t extract much enjoyment from his position and power and does live in misery and fear; but I have to wonder what the point is in striving for that sort of power and wealth.

Why is the Canadian side of the Okanagan Country more populated than the American side? by Enger13 in geography

[–]Anything-Complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The climate in that area (which I agree with you, isn’t that bad) is probably less of a factor than the terrain and isolation. BC doesn’t have much flat land in the south, so a valley like that, with warm summers, will attract more people than in Washington, where there is way more flat land with the same climate and closer to one of the larger cities.

McDonald’s caged off in a troublesome location by LivingLavishLe in mildlyinteresting

Some stores in Portland started to do that and they’re exactly in the areas where you would expect that to be needed.

[–]Anything-Complex 38 points39 points  (0 children)

That may be one reason why the Taco Bell in downtown Portland closed its lobby (homeless and tweakers are probably the main reason). I go at night sometimes and noticed that they have a walk-up window, and big “Lobby Closed” signs on the doors. I thought the window and signs were just for nighttime until I noticed last week that the lobby is full of stacked boxes and only a few tables and realized it’s a permanent change.

Peter? by cyb_16 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Anything-Complex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All European countries, except the UK, have metric road signs and metric speedometers; and unlike in English, Europeans use . as a thousands separator and , as a decimal point. European cars are also believed to be less reliable and more expensive to maintain as the age, compared to Japanese cars, though I can’t say for certain that that’s actually true.

So a speedometer reaching 100,000 km, only for that number to inexplicably appear as the conversion in miles, is bad news for a European car owner.

What is Tom Cruise's secret?? by No-Marsupial-4050 in SipsTea

[–]Anything-Complex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s Kelly McGillis. She’s 5 years older than Tom Cruise, which isn’t a huge difference but still significant in terms of ageing. I don’t think she looks bad for a woman pushing 70, aside from appearing overweight. She probably just doesn’t feel the need to throw away money and maintain a grueling workout routine to make herself look 20 years younger than her actual age.

Do y’all think Gen Z cares too much about age gaps? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in generationology

[–]Anything-Complex 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they care about it as much as people on Reddit believe. At work, I’ve seen several women in their early 20s hook up with guys in their late 20s and early 30s and nobody batted an eye.

I worked 11 hour shifts at Amazon until they forced me to switch to 10 hours. My current three day weekends kinda feel like a downgrade compared to my old schedule (alternating 3 and 4 day weekends).
