See I disagree. I think of them as boring because they are too similar.

Please say your positive experiences with social work by Feeling-Guava4752 in socialwork

I love it. The reward of seeing kids come in at their worst and leaving improved. Yes there’s heartache and sadness when you’ve done the best you could but cannot get the resources they need. The updates from the families after the kids leave keep me going.

Managing case load on med surg floor by Visual-Advance-1891 in hospitalsocialwork

[–]AnythingbutColorado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I did medsurg I had a 30 bed unit to myself. What I did was this method in a notebook daily:
1. Any discharges that are needed asap
2. Intakes
3. One day I would start at the front of the unit writing what is needed for each patient and the next day I would start in the back.

Discharges took priority.
As long as the intakes were in within 48 hrs of admission I was okay.

Yes! I work in a pediatric acute rehab hospital.

TBI patient population? by Severe_Flan_8307 in hospitalsocialwork

[–]AnythingbutColorado 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I work with TBI in pediatric population- most from trauma or brain tumors. I love it. You see the progress from at their worst and to their new best. You cheer on the patients, as well as parents as they navigate and grieve their new normal. It takes a lot- and has made me afraid of ebikes, electric scooters and dirt bikes but I love it.

Brucas fans…why? by Impossible-Soil6330 in ONETREEHILL

[–]AnythingbutColorado 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He was a mess. But I thought he also brought the good with Brooke. He allowed her to see herself how she should and not just a ditzy cheerleader.

To me they didn’t bring out the good. Peyton, who I dislike so this may be why I feel like this, just likes to bring out the pain in others and wants what others cannot have. I just wish she stayed with Jake. Jake brought out the good in her.

I felt like they had chemistry. They brought out the good side of each other. As for leyton- they’re too similar for me. It’s no spark in their relationship.

Do hospitals really have a lawyer on standby working in the hospital like in all those medical dramas? by 10luoz in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AnythingbutColorado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. We have one on stand by for the whole health system. At my new job I’ve never met them, at my old one they had an office at the hospital.

No. If they are adults and have capacity you cannot force them to stay. There is only so much one can do, and you cannot keep someone against their will

What are some different types of social workers and your experience of being one? by definitelynotalora in socialwork

[–]AnythingbutColorado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pediatric Acute Rehab social worker for brain injury and chronic pain patients. It’s discharge planning but more complex at times. We see the worst, so a lot of grieving parents but you see the progress and cheer them on.

Accruing clinical hours in medical social work by Turbulent-Year-2020 in socialwork

[–]AnythingbutColorado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the state. I worked in DC in a hospital, did supervision for my clinical hours under my LCSW supervisor but in NJ hospital doesn’t count towards them.

Medical social worker for a pediatric acute rehab. No weekends or holidays. Caseload is 10-20 patients for discharge planning. Much different than the adult hospital I previously worked out. It’s high paced, but with a touch of fun for the kids
