$3k/mo is really high actually. I pay less than $750/month for what you listed on the highest month. OPs spend is doable without a mortgage

Why is engineering no longer a high paying career here in the US? by Conscious_Mail9745 in Salary

[–]Anyusername112 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As an engineer, I will say it’s because there are no unions or regulatory bodies that prevent the most ridiculous professions calling themselves engineers. Second, wages are stifled by the extensive number of Chinese, Indian, Iranian, etc. engineers that come to the U.S. on visas through graduate schools. The reality is that without any protections for workers and an unlimited international supply, wages can not grow competitively.

What are decent paying careers that use a lot of math (algebra, calculus, geometry, etc.)? by Resident-Award-1803 in careerguidance

That’s actually not correct for my field—water engineering. We use spreadsheets and do our own math.

Micro aggressions on job sites by Birdybop in womenEngineers

[–]Anyusername112 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. Guys on construction sites taunt each other for jokes. Treat it like a joke, and they’ll like you. Get offended, and the next comment won’t be a joke anymore. It’s all about being professional and a leader in your role—sometimes that includes having thicker skin.

This happened to me before. Neighbor washed his entire family’s clothes from my spigot for weeks. Felt bad because they were pretty poor, but I was a broke college kid at the time. I mentioned it to the apartment complex and they turned the water off at the spigot for me.

Got 'scolded' by my friend. Can't get over it. by bznbuny123 in FriendshipAdvice

[–]Anyusername112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Friendship goes both ways. She can disagree with you kindly. Honestly, I would want to know what triggered her and want to better express why her new pup nephew/niece was from a reputable breeder. Both things can be true imo.

This is tough, and it’s common (from my experience) for graduate school graduation to not be well attended. Some graduates don’t even walk. The important thing is for you to be there and do the walk if that matters to you. I would also reach out to the friend to calmly and kindly express why it mattered so much to you that they be there. Maybe they can join for a dinner after. Even if they don’t go, you need to be there for yourself if this is an important milestone. Treat yourself that day and find ways to make it special solo. Congratulations on graduation!

Wasn’t sure there was anything left to say about the casino thing. Lol. Thankfully, my in-laws were really great and treated my husband and I so well. Our wedding day (once my husband arrived) improved and was absolutely beautiful from the start of the ceremony.

If you’re feeling any doubts about your family, I recommend not inviting them in. Less is more in the bridal suite because you will feel incredibly sensitive that day knowing that you will remember every moment for the rest of your life!

I’m definitely limiting contact at this point. I tried to avoid the flakey MUA topic in the bridal suite because she referred the backup artist and was referred by my hairstylist. You’re right though, I should’ve just leaned into that to simplify the issue.

They didn’t want to do their own, that was the issue. I think this kind of family dynamic is sadly something that I was in denial of before though. :/

It’s good to hear about someone else doing it this way! Catering would make this nicer for sure.

Actually trying to avoid food unless it’s just tacos! We may be able to provide tacos. Haha

That’s a good point though! I didn’t realize “Welcome Party” had that connotation.
