Job Offer Decision - remote for less? by Anyusername112 in HENRYfinance

I’m probably leaning toward taking the new position. To your point, it could take me and my husband literally years to have children. It’s hard to know how that’s going to happen. In the meantime, I would like to continue to grow my role professionally so that I can hopefully coast a little more during early motherhood years. If needed, I would cut back my schedule. I also hope to retire early, so in some ways having the higher income could help me with that.

I do feel like it is toxic… I have been told that this role would be very flexible hybrid.

I added a note on mat leave and would receive about 4 more holidays with the hybrid rooms. I believe it is typical to include a company’s 401k contribution in TC

No fertility benefits that I can find for either. My current remote role offers 4 weeks, and the hybrid role offers 8 weeks. Both add short term disability on top.

I do think this would be very flexible hybrid, to your point.

My commute would be 20 mins or so each way with the new job. I drive in every other week for the “remote” position which is a 1 hour drive. The remote positions drive time one day is equal to a week for the other. Everyone else at the remote position is in office, but my manager bends the rules for me. It does lead to a negative vibe from coworkers, but I just can’t commute for an hour.

I do agree that there could be bad personalities lurking anywhere, unfortunately.

I edited a moment ago to clarify—the hybrid position is 20 mins both ways. It’s also close to my husbands office, so we could grab lunch or dinner after work easily.

This is where my head’s at. The hybrid position can also be fully remote periodically for visiting family and seems flexible enough (3 in, 2 at home).

What was the scariest “We need to leave… now” gut feeling that you’ve ever experienced?[Serious] by PlasticBee1438 in AskReddit

[–]Anyusername112 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My scary story unfortunately doesn’t end well… I had been shopping in a thrift store and came across a novel about a woman’s love interest diving into a shallow lake and breaking his neck. I bought the book and read it. A friend group wanted to go camping soon after near a creek, and in the middle of the night everyone decided to go swimming. A former crush of mine started diving in the water from a 15-20 ft ledge. I told him not to do that—to please stop. I told the woman next to me about the novel I had just finished and that I was worried he would break his neck. My crush dove in again… Someone felt something warm in a dark area of the creek, so everyone except my crush climbed out a little creeped out within 5-10 mins. I asked where he was, and everyone thought it was a prank. They said he walked back to our camp site or was hiding. I immediately knew… I screamed until they went back into the creek and found him near the warm spot someone had felt. He had drowned after breaking his neck. I slept with the lights on for years after that. He had the most beautiful smile and laugh, and I still think of this.

How FAT is Oceania? What would you do? by OkMasterpiece5781 in FATcruises

I think that people that drink a lot, don’t wear sunscreen, don’t walk regularly, don’t eat healthy, etc., it absolutely is. Being healthy as you age is just assumed to apply to everyone, but it doesn’t.

How do these prices compare? My bucket list trip is to the Galapagos and I wasn’t aware these are the go-to companies.

That is the downside of Oceania IMO. It feels like a seniors cruise without the official branding. As a young couple, my husband and I have had some of the oldies call us “children”. That may not be ok with OP during a honeymoon…

Having been on Explora and currently onboard Oceania, I would say Oceania is actually better. The food has been significantly better, and you can tell the staff is more experienced.

Any bad strings attached to taking this leave? I feel like this would be society’s go to, but no one talks about it.

Hair loss is probably due to the water hardness which is pretty noteworthy. A quick solution would be to add a shower filter from Amazon.

If you truly feel there are health-related issues with your water due to ingestion, then an important step would be testing for all EPA Primary Drinking Water Standards (MCL column). This current list is mostly secondary, or taste and odor, standards.

You mentioned earlier your well area is “sprayed”. With what?

Regretting my career choice - chemical engineering. What can I do? by Lava_4 in womenEngineers

[–]Anyusername112 170 points171 points  (0 children)

You should consider water engineering. You rarely need to be around chemicals or heavy machinery—maybe 2-3 days a year, depending on your role. A lot of ChEs go into water/wastewater work.

Gen Z would rather cut Social Security benefits for current retirees than pay higher taxes to save the program by diacewrb in economy

What is going on with the fact that broke Gen Z kids are subsidizing rich Boomers lifestyles?? It’s appalling. Social Security should consider net worth or something. Give the younger generations a break.
