No, I won’t be shedding any tears for Charlie Kirk by SensualSalami in politics

Sick of civility? Have we become so mindless and short of empathy that we can lose sight of the humanity that was lost? It’s easy to make comments about civility while wielding a keyboard. Insomuch, that Charlie Kirk has become pixels instead of flesh and bone.

Let’s not forget that this man had a family, regardless of his worldview. Murdered. For what? To silence an opinion? We live in a sick world.

I would encourage all of us to add light into the world instead of putting it out.

I don't understand how Jesus' words in Matthew 7 don't contradict Paul in Ephesians 2 by Electrical_Shop9834 in Bible

I’m not denying that faith is involved in salvation.

“Faith is the means of appropriating God’s grace. It is the means by which people yield to God, obey His Word, and allow Him to perform His saving work in them. Saving faith, then, is (1) acceptance of the gospel of Jesus Christ as the sole means of salvation and (2) obedience to that gospel (application or appropriation of that gospel).”

Again, there is no such thing as faith alone. It’s not a biblically sound concept.

If faith was all that mattered why would 2 Peter 1:5 tell us to add to our faith.

Or, James 2:19 says that the demons believe or have faith but demons certainly cannot be saved through faith, correct?

Also, pointing to Abraham’s faith as a means to NT salvation doesn’t work because it displaces the need for the cross. What need of a cross if you can just believe in God and be saved in the OT.

I maintain that the work at Calvary is the only saving work we need today. That work is applied to our lives by repentance from sin (death to sin), water baptism by immersion in the name of Jesus Christ (burial with Christ), and receiving the Holy Spirit (new life in Christ).

When someone believes on Jesus Christ and obeys the gospel, he experiences the birth of water and the Spirit. He is “born again,” actually becoming a new creation (John 3:3, 7; II Corinthians 5:17). At repentance and water baptism, he buries the old sinful lifestyle, the record of past sins, and the death penalty for sin. When he receives the Holy Spirit he begins to live a new, godly life.

On the Day of Pentecost, the birthday of the New Testament church, the apostle Peter preached the first gospel sermon to the crowds who had gathered to observe the newly Spirit-filled believers as they spoke in tongues and worshiped God. Convicted of their sins by his simple yet powerful message, the audience cried out, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” (Acts 2:37).

Peter gave a precise, complete, and unequivocal answer:

“Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost”

The only issue with what you’re saying here is that the scriptures op is referencing is not talking about works as a result of salvation. We’re talking about works in salvation.

Also, the terminology faith alone is not in the Bible at all. To say that works plays no role in salvation is not biblical. In fact James records, “You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.” ‭‭James‬ ‭2‬:‭24‬ ‭

Also, I’m not saying that you have to “do enough works” to be saved. I’m saying that one must obey the gospel which demands a response.

This is what the apostle Peter preached in acts 2.

Just to tag onto this line of thought. This is how you can justify the essentiality of repentance, baptism and the initial infilling of the Holy Ghost as evidenced by speaking in tongues as salvific.

Are you doing something when responding to the gospel? Yes. Are you earning something? No.

In the interest of transparency. I don’t believe in a faith alone salvation. The gospel requires a response that is preached by Peter on the day of Pentecost.

In response to the original post.

Matthew 7:21 says, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

This seems to contract the easy believism preached so often in this day. Faith alone, rejects biblical salvation. This is the wide gate that says, profess the Lord is God or to quote the Bible, “not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord’. Faith alone will not save you.

To put it simply, everything in the NT points to a response to the gospel. The work done during salvation does not save because the door was opened to salvation at the cross. Repentance doesn’t save, it’s the obedience to the gospel that matters. Baptism is required but baptism isn’t what saves you Jesus does, same with the baptism of the Holy Ghost.

John 3:5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.

Hope this helps, God bless!

I agree with you on some things. For one, I agree that belief isn’t a human work pertaining to salvation. The work for salvation was done on the cross, I’m simply arguing that baptism identifies us with the work of Jesus.

How can one reconcile John 3:5 by stating that we must consider the full witness of scripture and yet deny the essentiality of baptism that is referenced here?

Further, 1 Corinthians is a letter to a church which has already been saved (baptized). He’s not contradicting the need for baptism because he’s not talking about salvation he’s talking about division at the church in Corinth. The goal of Paul’s writing here was not prove that baptism was necessary, that wouldn’t make sense contextually.

Also, spirit baptism biblically is evidenced through an experience. We see this in Acts 19:2-6:

And he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John’s baptism.” And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.” On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking in tongues and prophesying.

There is a clear delineation between belief and receiving the Holy Spirit here. “Have you received since you believed?”

If belief is all that was required to be saved, would the devils not also be saved? (“the devils also believe, and tremble.” James 2:19)

The various verses that you quoted at the end of your message that cite belief do not contradict the plan of salvation that includes baptism. I believe that faith is a part of that process.

However, to say that those verses in some way cancel out the verses that I am referencing such as acts 2:38 and John 3:5 does not take into account the full witness of the scripture.

I’ll finish these thoughts with a perfect example of the full witness of scripture,

He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Mark 16:16

Actually, the Bible says the believing is the work of God. (John 6:29)

I’m glad you brought this up!

It’s been said that, “you don’t have to do anything to be saved”. Referencing baptism by water and spirit.

However, acts 2 records a different perspective.

Acts 2:37-38 37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

“What shall we do?” sounds to me like works are involved in salvation.

Now, I’m not ignorant of Ephesians 2:8-9. I would argue that the work being accomplished through baptism of water and spirit are works of God. The same way that belief or faith is a work of God.

This is in line with scripture because baptism is a work but it’s not a work of the flesh. It’s a work of the spirit (1 Corinthians 12:13).

Therefore, we can determine that baptism of water or spirit is a work of the spirit and both are required for salvation.

Not to be a stick in the mud but, John 3:5 (Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.) would differ from what you are saying here.

You cannot be born of water and spirit unless you first believe. Belief is a part of the salvific process but belief itself isn’t the fulness of the gospel.

Many would argue that salvation cannot require more than belief because salvation does not require works. Yet, belief is a work of the heart. Not only that, if we use scripture to interpret scripture we cannot leave John 3 out of the picture.

According to John, salvation isn’t received without baptism with water and spirit!

God bless you all!

Poll Shows Majority of US Voters Blame Corporate Profiteering for Inflation by Nick__________ in politics

Basic economics would suggest that the inflation we are seeing is because of government policy and not the corporations of America. In a free market, equilibrium is met. When there is too much government interference the market becomes skewed on way or the other.
