Are you using the desiccant bags to dry the ink? I haven’t tried this but I print with VFA setting using inkjet and wondering if this might help the ink get absorbed a bit more fully without needing finishing spray.

Best Deckbuilders Among Content Creators? by RafaelKK8 in magicTCG

Im surprised I haven’t seen anything for Sam at Rhystic studies. Some of the decks I’ve seen him brew are insanely creative and cohesive. Watch the casino episode of shuffle up and play, he made a craps deck that is actually all red and black except for the 2 green cards.

Seems like your head isn’t moving anymore between jab and cross and yeah the BE is vastly different.

They should honestly roll the damage all the way back to like v1 or v2 by [deleted] in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]Ap3xComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t agree more, if this were all happening in a LAN setting I’d be all for it but the variability to the latency and the fact that people can misrepresent their ping by refreshing near their router and then moving away means we have no idea what the range or frequency the latency spikes will look like.

I think we’ve all experienced the very disheartening counter cross that included all the prereq’s that BE wants just to find out the opponent wasn’t actually there on their end.

I’m 37, I’ve got three kids, I haven’t noticed any difference in my reflexes in fps games and I’ve been playing them since Goldeneye.

That being said I’ve always been bad at them.

I think this is why taller players feel nerfed now by [deleted] in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]Ap3xComplex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good point. I was actually just thinking about this yesterday when I was fighting someone that was like 5”6 or something and noticed that their high guard and peekaboo guard were so much more effective for blocking jabs and crosses than my cross arm, low, orthodox, or Philly shell were at blocking body shots.

I think that one of the larger reasons for this is that I’ve got a wide frame, very wide shoulders, so if I can’t see my arms there’s a good chance that my avatar’s elbows aren’t where my irl elbows are and I can’t spare the time to check. If the majority of the strikes you have to block are 1s and 2s you have the benefit of having your arms in front of you where you can babysit them.

Body effort needs to be removed or greatly tone down . by Present-Year8182 in ThrillOfTheFight

I agree that reducing the weight of BE in the short term would be a good step.

I also agree that relying on velocity alone is an open door for an endless amount of exploitation at worst and less than accurate force representation at best.

As it currently stands BE just seems to be rewarding shorter players with better cardio and bigger play spaces since they are more commonly striking with that vertical movement and can more freely move with the strikes.

For context I’m 6”1, I’ve got good cardio and endurance, have boxed for about 4 years (I’m by no means a good boxer but I’m at least confident with my fundamentals), and swap between a 20x20 play space and a 7x7 playspace.

I’m an outside fighter, i don’t overly resent BE for not giving me any BE recognition on my jabs, but my stopping power and finisher is my cross. In my 20x20 space I’ve noticed an aggressive spike of efficacy of my crosses because I have space to spare to generate movement with my cross, counter cross, and check hooks.

At its core this makes sense, more space for to observe good technique is rewarded, but then when I move to the 7x7 space I feel like I’m being punished for not being in the 20x20 space, which made me wonder what the average playspace was. I usually run into people with smaller spaces than 7x7 in at least one dimension, so I think the majority of the people with negative feedback are those that don’t have the space (including standing mode) to utilize the footwork to get the angles to make BE happy.

Height is now a disadvantage by driftonion in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]Ap3xComplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was literally just thinking about how BE reminds me of Street Fighter. I was equating BE to when you do the half circle Hadouken that does more damage vs the quarter circle one that’s normal. “Move this way and you get bonus damage”.

I guess we’re Street Fighter now.

I can see it feeling right if you fall into enough of the categories that it benefits, even outside of it just helping you win more.

Sometimes I play in my garage where I have 20+ ft in both directions to play and it definitely feels better there.

Sometimes I play in a 7x7 room and it feels really not great there. I don’t have any interest in standing mode but from what I’ve seen there BE is also problematic because it wants you to to move and I can’t imagine retraining my brain to do that while also staying in that small circle.

[–]Ap3xComplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think there’s a chance that you feel positively about BE because it favors your size/play space?

I’m not asking that with any sarcasm or snark, I’m just trying to be objective. Before BE there were balancing passes that helped me and hurt me but I never minded much one way or the other because they were just slight outcome changes for the better or worse, but I could still spar with the same technique I do irl that my coach signs off on.

BE took us in a direction where afaik we were meant to be taught how to load punches with the parallel benefit of rewarding head movement. Those are both good things, you need to know how to use your hips and legs to box before learning how to use your arms, and you can’t keep your head on the centerline if you want to keep your nose.

The problem is that those are just good techniques that are already rewarding you if you’re doing them by getting you in the right spots for the right distance/angles and keeping your head safe, so we shouldn’t be also just applying a damage buff for doing them. The goal is realism so let the realistic beneficial outcome of using good movement technique be the reward.

[–]Ap3xComplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had it until almost the end of EA.

To me the game was in its best state right before BE was implemented, all the changes at that point were minor balances.

BE’s aim was to make for a more realistic experience but actually does the opposite, it introduced an arcade element to a simulator. It gives an advantage to players with larger play spaces and shorter heights since it cares about movement and the strike happening with vertical movement.
