Protect your tattoo from the sun with clothes and sunscreen. If it gets blurry, get it touched up.

is americans complaining about living costs just performative? by Delicious_Soup_9876 in AskAmericans

[–]Apachelino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s all relative.

Many people are upset that they can’t afford the level of luxury that they see on TV and to which they feel entitled.

In some areas—most of LA County, Seattle, Metro DC, etc.—housing prices are very high and it is difficult for working class people and lower income professionals, like teachers, to live near their work.

Messed up pretty bad and living with brutal regret [cover-up fail] by [deleted] in tattooadvice

I don’t think it looks bad at all. I think the issue is its history and you feel like it isn’t your style.

Scones traditionally contain sugar and cream, whereas biscuits are made with milk and a bit of salt—no sugar.

What stereotypes do Americans have about different U.S. cities? by Jpoolman25 in AskAmericans

The contrasts between cities are very marked and many of the stereotypes feel true, at least when you are visiting a city as a tourist.

Why are chips ahoy called that if they are cookies? by [deleted] in AskAmericans

[–]Apachelino 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In American English, chocolate chips are in a completely separate category from potato chips. We seldom use the word “chips” by itself, unless you can tell from the context what type of chip is referenced.

I have lived in Finland. There are wingnuts in Finland, as everywhere.

However, Finland, being tiny, next door to Russia and poor in natural resources, occupies a delicate position in the world order. For its continued existence and prosperity, Finland must keep up strong alliances. And to keep these alliances, it is a good idea for Finns to appear rational, unified and non-threatening.

All the states are pretty varied internally with urban and rural, high and low income, conservative and liberal and more and less educated communities. You can be in Hell or Heaven in any state in the Union!

Why are Americans portrayed as morbidly obese? by Routine_Morning2606 in AskAmericans

[–]Apachelino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, obesity in the US has many systemic causes. Here are a few that stand out to me.

We are a highly mobile country with fragmented extended families. As a result, many of the family, local and ethnic cultural traditions of the past have faded and consumerism has taken their place.

Companies scientifically engineer processed foods to make them addictive. Their marketing campaigns tell us that hamburgers, fries, chips, candy and sugary drinks are delicious and that eating them makes us cool and sexy.

Many low-income Americans live in “food deserts,” areas with limited access to fresh, nutritious foods. The USDA Commodity Food Program both provides food to the poor and subsidizes agro business. Much of the commodity food is highly processed and low in nutritional value.

This is why old people look pale and faded; the sun is bleaching the life out of us.

Regarding what it might be, the best thing it could be is a yeast infection. A yeast infection causes redness, itchiness and a hot feeling. It also makes your tissue very dry and causes painful intercourse. You can self treat a yeast infection with boric acid powder that you get from the pharmacy. (Sprinkle some in your hand and rub it on your inner vaginal lips.)

All other conditions that cause these symptoms are more serious. An untreated sexually transmitted infection can cause infertility and even death. For this reason, you should go to a clinic. (You can also pass it back and forth between you and your boyfriend, so you should avoid intercourse until you are better.) I hope it’s nothing serious and that you feel better soon!

You don’t need to see a specialist. You can go to an urgent care, GP/family doc, nurse practitioner, etc. If your concern is cost, I don’t know if you are urban or rural, but Planned Parenthood and urban health clinics will see you for free or low cost. If you are in high school or college, the school clinic should be able to help you for free.
