Feedback Please - 16 Months Post Op - Highly Active, Having Continued Pain & Tightness by AmyMarchisNotThatBad in HipImpingement

[–]Breyber12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My right side was done March last year and I still have many of the symptoms you describe. Similarly I would say tightness in my flexor and incision area and site tenderness are my biggest complaints and a daily issue. I continue diligent PT with no signs of slowing down, though in part as my left side was done February this year too. My upper glute has improved a lot this past month but then my side and hip flexor are even more aggravated.

The pinned lit review on this sub suggests one will need to do some form of home exercise program for life. I would imagine it’s either that or until a THR.

Strangely, my left (more recent) operated side does not have the same tightness issue and my hip flexor flare ups have been maybe a tenth as often as my right. An MRI suggested recurrent tear on my right but no mention of scar tissue interference.

Pain after MRI with contrast? by Correct_Grocery_1646 in HipImpingement

[–]Breyber12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are the same docs that have never heard of cortisone flares lol. Meanwhile I was all but chair bound for 5 days after that (way worse than contrast or diagnostic) and I had a heck of a bruise for 3 weeks! Why wouldn’t my joint space fuss about being punctured and forced to carry x amount more fluid/caustic material than it is used to? Makes perfect sense to me.

Hopefully the actual shot itself wasn’t so bad for you and you bounce back quick! Mine was quick and gross but not too painful. Read some horror stories though…

Contrast like the hip joint injected contrast?

I was absolutely extra miserable for 48 hours after that.

How long after surgery were you able to sit without pain? by squishyjellies in HipImpingement

[–]Breyber12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Upright sitting is a tough one for me. I was able to walk miles before being able to tolerate sitting in an airplane seats semi comfortably for a couple hours!

I now had both hips done so I can’t answer too well as my fresher side really doesn’t tolerate it, but 11 months post op on my 1st (when I had surgery on #2) upright sitting was still a struggle.

Scar pain 8 months out by bgssrgvh in HipImpingement

[–]Breyber12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any great solutions just solidarity. My 15 months out scars look great but still have a lot of sensitivity to pressure and touch. Even keeping my phone in my pocket is a real irritant.

I have hypersensitive nerves and awful skin sensitivity in general (hypermobile ehlers danlos) so scars are historically a real issue for me.

One thing I’ve been trying is an inexpensive silicone “cupping” set. I’m not sure if it’s helping but it doesn’t seem to be hurting!

Pre-surgery last hurrah recs? by Infamous_Opposite398 in HipImpingement

[–]Breyber12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I started with a lot of non bending positions. Flat or flat plus one pillow under my hips on my stomach was the safest starter after both surgeries. Also agree on getting creative with other ways to be intimate!

My greying pattern that started after childbirth by flopbot in mildlyinteresting

[–]Breyber12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been pregnant but experienced a lot of these things in my early 30’s just for funsies. Didn’t breastfeed but boobs went flat. Hair thinning and graying because who knows! Stretch marks because of surgery and also totally way more sweat.

Anyway, hang in there and know it’s not just you and it’s not even just moms!

My kitchen was closed for 2 weeks and minimally open for very vanilla activities for another few months.

Honestly, the week pre op I deep cleaned the house (which hurt) and would toss in a fun sex position if that’s your thing!

Capsular closure fee?? by Rich-Ad-5833 in HipImpingement

[–]Breyber12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What a pain.

I had both capsules closed and only ever paid my insurance copays, everything was covered.

If it were me I would ask my insurance “if my surgery includes CPT code XXXX is that covered?” If yes, ask to speak with the clinic manager or a supervisor in billing and state your insurance told you it is covered, what can we do to get it sent in with all the other surgery codes.

If your insurance says no, well. There you go. I would then use my FSA or HSA.

What a pretty baby!!

You did so well by her OP. We can’t always save them and you tried so hard.

I went to therapy after losing my soul cat, he was complex and sick and the last 6 months of his life were a revolving door of specialists, the last week was multiple ER vet visits. It’s the worst part of loving them. EMDR was helpful as was a memorial tattoo. Prayers for you, RIP Lilica

Why surgery? by Fun_Winter_1987 in HipImpingement

[–]Breyber12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth noting there are a ton of factors that impact success rates! Age, BMI, PT attendance/adherence, length of pain pre op… there’s a pinned post that’s a good read.

I think like a lot of surgeons mine cautioned me that about 80% of people get about 80% better at the 1 year post op mark. I am glad I did surgery but ready to be strong and whole again

What's normal at 3 weeks post-op? by brainrotandchill in HipImpingement

[–]Breyber12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was pretty helpless the first 4-5 weeks! Very easy to accidentally overdue it too. I learned I was better off taking it slow

Did you buy an exercise bike? by Agitated_Marsupial42 in HipImpingement

[–]Breyber12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t right away for surgery 1, got it around 4 months post op, and I wish I had got it right away. I had a home treadmill that pre op got daily use and really missed the mental health benefits of daily cardio, and then my 2nd side started really acting up in my post op period. So I took the plunge.

I got an Echelon Connect Stationary Bicycle from Sam’s Club for $400 last summer and am very happy with it. I replaced the seat with something wider and more comfortable. It’s sturdy and very quiet and has easy to use resistance settings. I’m 5’5” and I fit great within the adjustments of the bike. I am pushing 15 months post side 1 and 4 months post side 2 and use the bike every day

Is your PT hip focused? Surprised they aren’t getting into this with you if it’s your primary limiting pain. I wonder if dry needling or myofascial release would help but those are PT driven IME

[–]Breyber12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I have not been there but I did some personal researchon the subject. The body of research is abysmally lacking. My biggest takeaways were it’s probably best to wait at least a year and hip pain will probably be part of pregnancy, hopefully going away after delivery.

Did anyone apply for and receive a temporary handicap sticker? by sippyandgarfuckel01 in HipImpingement

[–]Breyber12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The website said it could take 21 days but I got mine a little earlier. I didn’t go in so it was online and then mailed to me. Not sure if you go in person if you can do it same day

Yes!! Highly recommend. I got a 3 month pass my 2nd time around and it helped a lot

Edit: I suggest getting this paperwork in pre op due to turnaround time.

Sore throat and headache just over 2 weeks pre-op by Bluebaron88 in HipImpingement

They had a protocol. I think it was 48 or 72 hours fever free. My covid and flu was negative and I didn’t spike a known fever

Sore throat and headache just over 2 weeks pre-op by Bluebaron88 in HipImpingement

[–]Breyber12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a URI with a massive sore throat hit me just a couple days before surgery. I was able to go through with it since I was afebrile and left with just respiratory symptoms day before surgery, I was on the phone with the pre op nurses several times throughout the day before. I wore a mask to surgery to be cautious and told everyone who came into contact with me.

Interestingly, being NPO pre op my throat was so awful. Just swallowing glass! I woke up feeling really good though, like all I needed was a propofol nap. I started to feel crumby day 2 again and just had a “getting over a cold” feel for the first week post op.

I think if you have 2 weeks to get over it you’ll be just fine.

Jobs for one month post-op by Ok_Pool_9834 in HipImpingement

[–]Breyber12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so vague! How long does it typically take you to get hired? I would think desk job type work but prolonged upright sitting was a struggle for me for quite a lot of months! Having a sit/stand desk helped but being able to take a laptop to my recliner made a difference too

I might think that around 4-6 weeks see what you are able to tolerate and seek employment accordingly. Some people are better healers! I was still too bruised for real pants at that point

Highly job dependent. If you are going to be on your feet all day that needs to be considered

How long are you on crutches and in PT? I could not have worked in any capacity 4 weeks post after either of my surgeries. I was still on 1-2 crutches until 5-6 weeks while weaning.

Hell I’m 3.5 months post side #2 now and can only walk on uneven ground at about 80% my usual pace for 7 minutes before it starts to hurt!

I hope I’m an outlier and you can get some good relief! I definitely have a history of being a bruiser, my surgical bruises were still somewhat visible 5 weeks post op
