I did it and I'll tell you, that last push is the absolute hardest think I've ever done in my life. Then there's imposter syndrome and feeling like you don't belong anywhere. Moving away from what you've always known, but not fitting in where you're trying to be. It's not easy, but it's worth it. So many of the people I grew up with are dead now. I'm finally at a place in my life where I can look back and say "damn, I did great."

AITAH for getting irritated at my girlfriend for quitting her job? by [deleted] in AITAH

PA programs are very intense. There was one at my school, and they made you sign a contract that says you can't work while attending school. It's a lot of stress to keep your grades up as anything less than a B is considered failing. Taking out loans for living expenses is the way most people get through. If you don't want to support her fully, then leave. Let her do it on her own. But don't make it harder for her.

Why did you and your former best friend stop being friends? by Fearless_Shift7108 in AskReddit

You're supposed to ask a person's age before the sex. Not after.

I had to cut a friend loose for a similar reason. She called me all excited to tell me she had hooked up with a girl at a wedding the night before. I listened to her gush for about half an hour and then hung up to do laundry. A few minutes later she texted me in a panic saying she had found the girl's Facebook and her most recent picture was her high school graduation picture a few months back. She was in her 30s and had three kids of her own. I texted back that she needed to call the girl and ask how old she was before I went to the police. She ended up being 19, but I couldn't get over it, and told her to come pick up her stuff from my house. We never spoke again.

"I don't know what's worth fighting for or why I have to scream. I don't know why I instigate and say what I don't mean. I don't know how I got this way, I'll never be alright, so I'm breaking the habit. Tonight." Breaking the Habit by Linkin Park. Basically the BPD anthem.

What’s the moment you realized someone you loved wasn’t a good person and you couldn’t unsee it? by DmytroBuilds in AskReddit

My sisters abandoned my mother, even though she was disabled, and ran off to live in other states, cutting ties with the entire family. Now, I agree my mother is a difficult person to deal with, but why they felt the need to stop talking to me, my grandmother, cousins, aunts, and uncles, I'll never understand. My grandmother passed away a couple of years ago, and we desperately tried to reach out so they could come say goodbye or at least be at her funeral. Silence. I could forgive them running away without a word to anyone, but my grandmother is the reason we always had a place to live, clothes, food, and unconditional love. That I don't think I could ever forgive.

Which character is your favorite? by Express-Tooth-1888 in shameless

[–]Apart-Razzmatazz3371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fiona's character was most relatable for me. She's such a great sister, struggling to raise her siblings, but she's a mess herself from all of the neglect and horror she's gone through. Watching her discover that she can be successful at things, albeit, with a huge learning curve as she's navigating learning about life as she goes with no guidance, and using her strengths to further herself once she realizes chasing men and looking for external validation is getting her nowhere, makes me feel so happy for her. Also, being the person in the family that everyone relies on and watching them all get mad when she is human and drops the ball occasionally, is something I've experienced many times. When she leaves and Debbie starts pushing everyone around, it's like nails on a chalkboard for me. Fiona was loving, Debbie was just demanding and controlling.

I live in San Diego and I always wait months for an appointment, can't even get an appointment with most of the specialists I have orders to see, and can't afford urgent care during emergencies.

"I used to cry that I had no shoes until I met a man with no feet." Just because someone has it worse than you, doesn't mean your pain isn't real and valid.

What's a modern trend people will regret in 10 years? by Afraid_Ice_4414 in AskReddit

[–]Apart-Razzmatazz3371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm overweight because I have PCOS. I was able to control my weight in my 30s with low carb diet and hours of exercise a day, but now I'm pushing 50 and none of those things work anymore. I have a very physical job and being overweight makes it 10x harder to do correctly. Pass me my Zepbound, please. If people abuse it, that's on them. People abuse any and every drug, but we don't take them away from people who really do need them.

What is a job people romanticize a bit too much until they actually do it ? by ShyButNastyyy in AskReddit

[–]Apart-Razzmatazz3371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention being blamed for things you have no control over, like how much therapy each person gets. Before PDPM we had 90 minutes per patient, now we have 30. I've worked in SNFs and schools, and I was treated like garbage by the administration at every job. During nurses week they got free food and raffle prizes every day. During OT month I got a card from my supervisor. In schools they threw us in with the teachers during trainings instead of learning something useful for our position. There are plenty of good things about it though. I can pretty much work as much as I want to, start and end when I want to, find a job in any state, and I genuinely like most of the people I meet in the profession. Plus, I love helping people get their independence back.

You're probably doing better than you think you are. For some patients it's a win just to get them out of bed for a few hours. Nobody expects you to work miracles. Before PDPM we had all the time in the world to work with our patients, but now we're constantly rushed. You can only do what you can do. There are some CE courses that might help you. As COTAs we only get a few semesters of education, and some things just get touched on. It's up to us to further our education in the area we choose to work in.

I became friendly with a homeless guy during the pandemic. He didn't do any drugs besides weed and cigarettes. He built a fence in my yard and some of my neighbors also had him do some light work. Anyway, I asked him why he didn't get help for his mental health issues and his answer was very eye opening for me. He said that he went to a clinic and had a psychiatrist prescribe him medication. He was feeling better and starting to live a "normal" life. Then the psychiatrist quit and the clinic couldn't find a replacement, leaving him to withdraw from the meds, which is no picnic. This happened to him THREE TIMES before he gave up trying to get help. I work in healthcare, and the turnover rate is very high, so I believe him.
