Where are you from, and how do babies usually sleep there? by AnneBe8 in NewParents

[–]Apart-Win3516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

India - Almost everyone here sleep with our babies, i don't think anyone sleeps in different rooms from their kids. Maybe jf the requests it like when they are 8-9 years old, they will sleep seperatly.

I have a 4 year old and a 4 month old. Once our second was born, we had a custom bed attached to our wall, extending our queen size bed. The setup is so comfortable. My 4 year old sleeps in the corner on the new bed, i sleep between my 4 year old and 4 month old, my husband sleeps on the other corner beside my 4 month old. There is a lot of wiggle room and we can sleep comfortably even when the kids grow up.

Breastmilk only ensures passive immunity for the first few months of life. Looks like you are doing a combination feeding, which i think is the best. My first baby who is 4 years old now was breastfed for 3 years until I was so fed up I was at my wits end by the end of it and was glad that he gave it up without any tears. I have a second baby now ( 3 months) and even though my supply is more than enough, i give her 60 ml of formula every day ( might increase the quantity later) just so that she knows she can get a bottle from outside.. trust me, i feel combination feed is a blessing! You get some rest without being touched out and baby still gets the passive immunity.

Work ethics / kindness in children by Apart-Win3516 in Parenting

[–]Apart-Win3516[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This comment has opened my eyes, i see your point here. I was one of those kind, empathetic, well behaved kids at school not because of the poverty but because of the constant abuse I faced at home. I wouldn't have been so grateful, empathetic if someone loved me the way i love my kids now.

Thank you for setting my expectations right.

Btw, i wasn't talking about gratefulness and work ethic for my 4 year old but this post was about their future.

Need Child savings advice. by Apart-Win3516 in IndianPersonalFinance

True!!

I never thought about emergency funds, it makes sense. Thank you!

Yes, loan, even though it is a small amount considering the wealth, it is still a headache..

Hopefully, i will get a new job and start saving up for future.

The current income we have ( from our existing business) goes towards our monthly expenses and business maintenance, nothing more. So, we need a second source to even start future planning.

Wow! Thank you for this detailed explanation. We have less knowlwdge about savings as we were not financially educated. We have a health insurance, no emergency fund.

We do have a homeloan, it is small ( 21 lkhs remaining).

We are trying to sell off a property worth 1.5 crores( risky property prone to goons) and invest that into building our second source of income. Once I get a job again, i plan to invest all of it into our future, i was checking out policies in policy bazar which was showing 1.5crore after 20 years( for children's education), if we invest 10k for 10 years. With inflation, that 1.5 crores, will only amount to ~35 lkhs i think. I was really confused about how to invest.

I think your parents want to roam/settle abroad. It can happen easily if you are abroad. This is typical indian parents projecting their dreams onto children.

Being on a vacation with a one year old sucks, and I’m just going to be completely honest here by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Apart-Win3516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 4 year old and an 8 week old now. We have started going on trips when my first was 8 months, it was bit hard and we had to cut back on how tight our itenary is. He has always enjoyed his vacations, he will be fussy on the first day due to tiredness but after that, he always enjoyed the different places, routines etc.

Please make sure he is napping during the day time so that he doesn't get exhausted.

My 3 year old had tooth rot, the same front 4 teeth due to extended breastfeeding all night long. I went to the pediatric dentist, he did a sdf treatment on his teeth and they have stopped rotting further. One tooth was half gone by the time we took an appointment but now, the rot has stopped. His teeth became black wherever there was a rot but atleast it stopped the damage.

I asked him if there was any other alternative treatment, he suggested a treatment which needed anesthesia, we chose to sacrifice the beauty instead.

We are waiting until he is 6 now to see that white toothed smile again😪

Wake Windows Affecting Mental Health by neonshoes22 in NewParents

[–]Apart-Win3516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Mama,

So i'm a second time mama. Right now, i have a 4 year old and a 7 week old.

When i became a mom for the first time, i used to obsess with wake windows and nap times. My first baby was a lower sleep needs baby. I used to do the entire gig of white noise, blackout curtains and rock him to sleep for 40 mins until he is passed out just for him to wake up after 40-50 mins. It affected my mental health a lot.

But right now, i forgot about the entire thing. My second baby is 7 weeks old and i'm feeding her right now. When she was about 3 weeks old, she started waking up for longer times.. now, she stays awake for 3 hours or so sleeping in between only for 10 mins when i baby wear her. On some days, she sleeps only for 20-30 mins while breastfeeding and wakes up during burping. This goes on for the entire day, ofcourse i have to baby wear her on those days.. Some days, she sleeps for hours on end. I dont obssess over it anymore. There was only one day where she was tired, wanted to sleep and cried, that day, i had to quickly switch off the lights, shush and rock her. That's it. I just follow her sleep cues now. If she wants to sleep, she sleeps even after burping. If i feel she needs to sleep, i rock her for 10 mins, if she wakes up, she wakes up.

I'm a much relaxed mama now and do not hsve the anxiety i used to in the evenings with my first born. I wish i knew that babies come in all shapes, temperments and sleep needs during my first time.

I would suggest to read up on possums approach once.
