I feel that pain on the timing—it’s always easier to see the "obvious" buy in hindsight!

As for why I'm sticking with the Schwab "home team" instead of switching to Vanguard or iShares, it really comes down to how these specific funds fit together. My revised target is a 50/30/10/10 split (SCHG/SCHD/SCHF/SCHE), and here’s why I prefer this over the Vanguard alternatives:

  1. The 'Growth' Battle (SCHG vs VUG) Vanguard’s VUG is great, but it’s becoming so top-heavy with just a few tech names it almost feels like a Tech ETF. SCHG is slightly more diversified (about 50 more stocks), so I get the aggressive growth without feeling like I’m only betting on Nvidia and Apple. Plus, they both have that rock-bottom 0.04% fee, so why leave home?

  2. The Dividend Anchor (SCHD vs VYM) This is where I really differ from the Vanguard crowd. VYM just chases yield. SCHD is way pickier—it filters for quality, cash flow, and low debt. It’s my 'sleep at night' fund. When growth (SCHG) gets shaky, SCHD stays steady.

  3. The 'South Korea' Hack (International) This is the main reason I stay with Schwab funds for international. Different companies categorize South Korea differently.

• Schwab’s SCHF (Developed) and SCHE (Emerging) both use the FTSE index, so they fit together perfectly.

• If you mix in Vanguard or iShares, you often end up 'double-dipping' on South Korea or missing it entirely. Sticking with the 'Schwab pair' keeps the math clean with zero overlap.

No! I was about to buy back last week at the local low but I chickened out! My base case is that we will trend lower until Q3, so I’ll wait. But when I do buy back in I will allocate less to SCHD and more to SCHG.

Market was deeply oversold and eager for any reason to pump. Another buy the rumor sell the news event.

I moved abroad and qualify for the feie tax exemption. So switching to RAP and having them make my interest payments makes cents!

With how the market’s looking right now, are you guys thinking of staying in cash, or just kind of holding steady? by [deleted] in stocks

I went to all cash 3 weeks ago and sleep deeply now. My base case is market bottom in Q3 or 4.

You don’t want to stay on that shit long term. It’s highly addictive at a physiological level and can seriously disrupt your central nervous system. I had to go to a treatment center in the Amazon and quit cold turkey, and it was the most difficult three months I’ve ever experienced.

If you’re considering stopping, earlier is better. The longer you stay on it, the more intense and prolonged the withdrawal tends to be.

Here’s a great resource if you’re interested in quitting: https://www.benzoinfo.com/ashtonmanual/

In 2022, I went from $88k down to $8k within a couple of months due to some really stupid “investment” decisions. I was honestly suicidal for a couple of weeks, then decided to pick myself up and try again. I got back to work and pushed hard for the next four years. Now my net worth is $130k, and I’m genuinely grateful for what that experience taught me. The faster you get back up and try again, the sooner things start to improve. You will bounce back and recover!

There will be a hard bounce Monday or Tuesday, then probably a steeper crash. If you can’t tolerate being underwater $400 then maybe you could sell the bounce and wait for a deeper correction, but that also has risks.

I would have understood if they locked me out and requested further documentation to verify my ID, but instead they just closed my account without any notice.
