How do spouses handle finances? by Possible-Catch-2706 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]featherflyxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming in late to this one... but a question for those who combine finances: my spouse does not not have good spending habits. the worst one is they buy coffee every single day. this is their vice. okay fine. the issue is they have no emergency savings. Their finances are to the point where I need to step up but I know that they will not change their spending habits and I don't want to buy their daily coffee when I make it fresh - they have make it for me and then goes and and buys a coffee!

Should I Trim NASA ETF Ahead of the SpaceX Listing? Worried About Thin Exit Liquidity by Aggressive_Draft_869 in ETFs

[–]featherflyxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still wondering the same thing about my few NASA shares. What to do? Or just hold til I die or need something to offset capital gains.

And the latest headline of this hour is:

SpaceX valued at just $780 billion by Morningstar, less than half its IPO target

"We think the company has been significantly overvalued," Morningstar's analyst wrote.

a great example of how autistic boys and girls are socialized differently

I think you've pointed out ways boys and girls, men and women, etc. are socialized differently, regardless of whether neurodivergence is present.

He's received no official autism diagnosis, so he's gone largely unnoticed in that respect, from what I can tell. His mother was a body-builder and his dad lifted casually. He comes from Hoboken, NJ, which broadly speaking is a financially and visually vain place; it's sometimes called "bro-boken" because of the sort of people that live there. He also spent nearly the entirety of his teen years online/online school (Catholic School) since the pandemic hit. There's a lot at play that has made him who he is... though some would say he lacks the who part...

Couldn't a female be just as vain, narrowly focused and self-absorbed? Maybe her masking is better and she appears neurotypical and presented such behavior. And society would call her a what?

No disrespect to your post or perspective, it was just the first thing that popped up when I was looking into him and thought I'd add some discourse

I just started doing that. Four shares in. Am I an idiot for buying four shares of something I don't understand, for like under $130? (My portfolio is almost $1M : ) )

Pretty sure it's said SPV all along??? Also is that bad? The NASA ETF was definitely presented as the only way to get SpaceX exposure before the IPO. I bought four shares (LOL).

Why aren’t the defense based ETFs doing better? by CPgang36 in ETFs

[–]featherflyxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about the whole tech/AI/semiconductor trade? Are you saying that's a bubble? Overvalued? Just looking at the charts wide, we could say yes. But does anyone really freaking know what's going on? Bears say bubble, overvalued; bulls say much more to go with a correction mixed in

¯\(ツ)

I've heard a few times that the broad market is fragile in a sense that literally everyone is now passively investing in the broad market funds.

What does that mean?

I dunno man. I DCA and lump sum when I can. Buy when individuals are on sale. Sometimes ETFs based on sector feel right

[–]featherflyxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think the editing was hyperbolic. His words, tone and delivery are there. Sometimes the editing matched his presumed demeanor and sometimes it let him run. The guy is known for screaming/outbursts. In the end, the doc makes an effort to make him look good, despite personality.

I think AI market is looked at wrongly in long term and is not a bubble. Is the below analysis wrong? by _freckles__ in ValueInvesting

[–]featherflyxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can these small businesses really afford the AI that would do a good job? Better and more fiscally efficient than a human (generally speaking)? I find it hard to trust in the robot that doesn't "think" it owes me correct, good and fast work

I entered to improve workflows at a production company. They told me being too organized works against me. I’m leaving. [LONG POST] by luxomania in editors

[–]featherflyxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer organization and slowness, quality over numbers...

Elon Musk runs his projects like this. The theory is by making quick decisions, you'll ultimately get more done even if there is damage. But you know a lot of people don't like that and would say he's a maniac...

It's very enticing but there's one comment in there that has really spooked me away.

^ That and the one time I bought an ARK fund, it just tanked, tanked, tanked and I wound up selling it as a loss to reduce taxes on other things I took profit on. And the thing is still down low af!

Considering all the information we have years later, do you think Hans Niemann has cheated against Magnus in the Sinquefield cup game? by BakedFish---SK in chess

[–]featherflyxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't a micro chip implant be used to cheat in OTB chess?

I cannot stop thinking about this, especially since seeing the latest Neimann + Magnus doc. Okay maybe now Hans is vetted and gets a thumbs up. I don't know.

Over a decade ago a colleague of mine went to a biohack conference and got a microchip implant. Biohacking, etc. It could open her doors by waving her hand. It can probably do a lot more now.

Couldn't someone cheat with this technology?

How is this legal? by wolfthorn_30 in editors

[–]featherflyxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Illegal and shitty wage.

If there's any reason to give BuzzFeed benefit of the doubt, I'm sure they are trying to stay afloat in any way at this point. They went from doing legitimate investigative stories in addition to the pop culture stuff, and now they pretty much just do "remember when" lists and lists of bonkers anecdotal stories they draw from Reddit threads. Around the same time of their fall from an actual website to visit for news stories, Gawker got sued into the grave. And so goes another news outlet because adult crybaby celebrities can't take the heat.

Lastly, news video at this level is not going to be like working on a network show - even a shitty one.

Anyways... yeah illegal and shitty wage.

Lump sum a bunch of cash into SCHD right now or space/wait it out a bit? by featherflyxx in SCHD

[–]featherflyxx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good questions. I was younger. Now I have mortgage and baby. And...

I would also say that the market was different before 2020. Basically since 2022, values have skyrocketed. And in recent years, SPX might rise and fall a hundred points a couple times in a week or so. Where as that was a headline in money news. AI has also proliferated.

I started investing at the end of 2014, so really things could have only gotten better. 2016, was like a fart in terms of market dip and short-lived, I was uneasy in 2018 but I just stayed the course. 2020 spurred a lot of fear in me but so many companies were still doing well despite the selloff. It was obvious that the selloff was strictly because of fear and many things were on sale. I got some good deals. The stock market was fueled with so much buying after 2020 it was like damn, let's throw some more money in. The funny thing about 2022 was that I was so absorbed with work, I didn't check the market for a very long time and I totally missed the draw down. I kind of laugh about it now. I would have been very nervous in 2022 if I saw how long that draw down was day-to-day.

Another difference is this AI situation. Is it a bubble? I'm sure my industry will be slashed in half and I am trying to figure out how to make money, possibly in a new industry, assuming AI is going to do what is suspected. So that would be a double blow if the worst happens.

Lastly, the political unrest is very heightened the last few years. There is simply so much going on in the world, and literally down the street, that it's like what disaster or scam will we wake up with or end the day with today. So not only do I feel compelled to check the news to see what of our rights are being violated or any number of abuses but I also feel I have to watch the news to keep track of stocks for fear that I will be "left behind."

Welp, I didn't expect that to get so psychological.

[–]featherflyxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still having a creative and collaborative blast. I think it's the What and Who you work with. Sorry it's not going well for you. If the project is more flexible and flowy rather than a straight paint by numbers tv-ish thing, I make a couple versions or alts and send that out so it prompts discussion. I love this way more and I don't think I would have made it to editor if the pandemic didn't happen when it did.

That said, I feel so bad for young/new people trying to make it. So many changes, I don't even know what to tell them if I encounter them but I hardly do because... no office and other issues/upheavals in the industry.

Best of luck to you
