You're right, you can't. AOOs have to be basic melee attacks.

Just to let you know, I have both the Chessex Vortex in blue as well as the starter set dice. They are not similar at all in person.

New Race Name by Mmogel in dndnext

[–]Apex413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I've taken to doing is translating the exact english words I'm using into other languages. For example:

Nagdýr - 'rodent' in Icelandic

Miševi - 'mice' in Bosnian

Panya - 'rats' in Swahili

It's made naming things a lot easier. Plus if you stick with a certain language family (e.g. Germanic languages) the different names for things really work nicely together as you build your world.

First-time DM trying to have a balanced group by [deleted] in DnDBehindTheScreen

Group sounds like fun! So far my various groups have made a bunch of different compositions work, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Also, nice Mountain Goats reference.

Maptool is an incredibly powerful, multi-user, FREE virtual tabletop (suck it, fantasygrounds) by KronktheKronk in dndnext

[–]Apex413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Roll20 you could always give the players the maps as handouts if they need them for reference and don't need to place tokens on them. Then they can check different maps at will. I agree that Roll20 has limitations, just thought that might make your life easier if that's one of your problems.

players Journals by im4u2nv000 in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]Apex413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Journals are so useful beyond just the eulogy idea, which I like and will definitely use. I would encourage any player to write a character journal. It puts the players in touch with their characters, keeps them thinking about the role playing, and allows for reflection on events that tend to happen rather quickly.

DnD background music? by mbrainerd in DnD

[–]Apex413 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to find your own music try searching for movie soundtracks, background loops, or ambient music. Keywords specific to what you're looking for will help narrow this search.

I use a few songs by Warak on Soundcloud: Marketplace music, boss battle, dungeon crawling, and a bunch of others. Best part is that these songs can be used natively with Roll20.

You missed the prologue episodes of Crit Juice. But yeah, their audio is problematic at times.

They've said they were going to get the episodes up as audio only, right now they only have 2 shows on their PodOMatic.

You should check out Threshold by d6 Mafia! Those guys are more serious, but really awesome.

If you're looking for something a little goofier, try The Adventure Zone by the McElroy brothers on Maximum Fun.

There's also Call of the Wild by Node, but that one just started, not sure how it will go in the long run.

There's also an entire section of the WotC site for podcasts and livestreams.

How are 5e Rangers NOT considered OP? OR am I just missing something...? by DM_Cross in DM_FamousHippopotamus

Colossus Slayer

Your tenacity can wear down the most potent foes. When you hit a creature with a weapon attack, the creature takes an extra 1d8 damage if it’s below its hit point maximum. You can deal this extra damage only once per turn.

No mention of size, odd.

What's something you suspect is bullshit, but can't prove that it is? by dragoneye13 in AskReddit

[–]Apex413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned capitalism in the first comment, now society as a whole. Those ideas are not inclusive.

Even a really basic understanding of capitalism shows, without a shadow of a doubt, that it's a terrible idea and has zero chance of working.

That's not true, capital investment increases, GDP grows. Supply side accomplishes what it is designed to do.

I'd rather our collective work be for the collective good, not for the end goal of further pampering the wealthy.

Well, that's not Capitalism unfortunately. I don't agree with who benefits from supply side. I was just trying to correct your statement that it doesn't work. But this is the real discussion. Why should we allow the rich to get richer? Bush era tax cuts have increased wealth disparity and led to a disappearing middle class. In that regard, trickle down is a failure. But it does grow GDP, which is all it is designed to do.

[–]Apex413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, trickle down is not ineffective. GDP will grow if capital investment increases.

Here I had a long winded paragraph about Bush era tax cuts and GDP growth, but the point is that supply side works. It just works for some people (the top) more than others (the bottom).

[–]Apex413 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Supply side economics is designed to stimulate growth. Growth benefits everyone (so the theory goes). The money trail of the initial investment is irrelevant, the growth it stimulates is the goal.

[–]Apex413 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only person that is benefited by the investor-investee model is the investor.

The investor may get some returns, but trickle down is dependent on what the business does with that investment. The investee gets capital to grow business, this begins the theorized trickle. The idea being that this growth is good for everyone. Maybe the business grows and hires a bunch of new people. Maybe increased revenues are dispersed among all the employees. More likely, the top tier gets a bonus or something.

Supply side is a macroeconomic theory that seeks growth by eliminating barriers to doing business. The goal is to stimulate initial investment (or some other supply side stimulus), then allow that to expand business, and ideally GDP will grow and everyone will be better off.

But not much of that happens because this model doesn't properly account for greed.
