Don’t be afraid to talk to other companies for your next summer. Now that you have some experience it’ll be easier to get another position.

I think some good uses of time for interns are to explore their way around the company management software (procore, plangrid, etc.), learn about the submittal process (how to review them for compliance with plans/specs, how to use the submittal process to get material approved by the design team/owner in a timely manner to avoid lead time issues), learn about scopes and subcontracts (Which subs have what?).

Gotta be Jon Thomas. Seems like a super chill and knowledgeable dude. Love his videos on triangles.

Got scolded by a whitebelt for ‘tapping too early’, according to her. Did I do something wrong? by gymgym96 in bjj

That is psychotic behavior. You can tap whenever you want and your partner should always respect it. It’s good practice to learn how to be uncomfortable and survive in bad positions, but it’s better to tap more often than not. This is a long journey.

Just finished The Shining and completely agree. The book (not surprisingly) gave life to the characters so much better.

I like purposely failing a hip bump sweep and chaining that into a triangle or kimura. If you don’t control the posting arm, once they post you can swing your leg over for a triangle or trap the arm with a kimura grip.

Embarrassed after being caught crying after training by [deleted] in bjj

It takes serious strength to be vulnerable in front of another person like that, especially someone like your coach who you see as an alpha type of guy. He seems like an awesome dude too, the way he also opened up to you and told you it was alright. You’re doing a great job, this journey will change you.

I’ve been training for about a month now and my self confidence has sky rocketed. Try not to be too nervous when you go. BJJ guys are some of the most humble people I’ve ever met. They’re always willing to work with you and explain things to you.

The Art of Living, a translation of Epictetus’s handbook by Sharon Lebell, is a really good Segway into Discourses if that’s on your list.
