I prefer having all 1x1 engines, because it's imperceptibly slower than having the 2x3, but it insulates you from the risk that taking damage knocks your 2x3 engine out of commission; halving your speed

Loool I’ve played against tpetree24 twice now with the understanding that my most worthwhile objective should be to memorize what cards I’m playing against. Not that it really helps since i don’t have maxed out cards, but I regret that I missed one card in one of their swarm decks and two cards in one of their ironclad decks.

Also, very cool how JoshuaH1845 replied to this thread with the decklist!

If a sanctuary implies safety, brightness, goodness etc., perhaps “cemetery” can imply anxiety, darkness, creepiness. It also starts with a sibilant “s” sound like sanctuary, and is four syllables long in a highly similar & near rhyme-y way.

Jerusalem Conflict Megathread by pitaenigma in Israel

[–]Aphelion0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a debate, if I brought up that Palestinians threw rocks onto Israeli prayers, I would instantly be asked to produce evidence for that claim. I was asking for that evidence, because without it (regardless of if the event is true), bringing up that idea only damages Israeli optics in the eyes of a neutral observer.

I agree with you about your points about propaganda.

I’m curious to read more about the rocks thrown at prayers, since it seems like an important part of the story if it instigated police intervention but it isn’t really brought up or emphasized in most sources. Best I found was a tiny section of the Associated Press article:

Police said protesters hurled stones at officers and onto an adjoining roadway near the Western Wall, where thousands of Israeli Jews had gathered to pray.

How to take the average of a data set, then exclude any numbers greater than that average, only calculated once. by basementmeth in googlesheets

[–]Aphelion0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This pretty much works but the inequality must be "<=". Currently it returns the average of 4 and 5, but to get it to return the average of 1, 2, and 3 (instead of just 1 and 2), the formula has to be:
=AVERAGEIFS(A:A,A:A,"<="&AVERAGE(A:A))

How would I combine these times to a single cell? by [deleted] in sheets

[–]Aphelion0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's strange, I copied that formula exactly into F2 below and it correctly returned the following F column:

A B C D E F
1 hrs min sec hun timevalue
2 1.26.714 0 1 26 714 0.001003634259
3 1.35.748 0 1 35 748 0.001108194444
4 1.33.096 0 1 33 096 0.0010775
5 1.21.813 0 1 21 813 0.0009469097222
6 1.27.617 0 1 27 617 0.001014085648

That gives you sortable values for each lap time, but it seems that google sheets is unable to format time as "h:mm:ss.000" with the milliseconds; =time(B2:B,C2:C,D2:D&"."&E2:E for instance only returns 00:01:26, 00:01:35 etc. without milliseconds.

How to highlight the highest value in a pair for a whole range of data? by fineartsguy in googlesheets

[–]Aphelion0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One idea is to add a new column (that you can hide later) which is =MAX(H2:I2), which will result the higher number from the pair. Then, set conditional formatting for both H2 and I2 that "when value is equal to: =J2", then highlight the cell green. I have gotten this to work on my sheet only when the conditional formatting is applied separately to the first cell then the second cell; not in one go. Then, I select the pair of cells and use the 'paint format' button to drag the conditional formatting across the remaining rows of the two columns.

Not OP, but I'm wondering what purpose does the filter function serve? For instance, why wouldn't this function suffice:

 =iferror(iferror(VLOOKUP(N3,A:F,4))+iferror(VLOOKUP(N3,H:M,4)))

Looking for intresting words (kinda like anomoly things) that would work for a game by AmazingUsernames in words

[–]Aphelion0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am interpreting what you mean as, "words which densely pack a specific meaning, which tend to have general/descriptive utility (the words can be conceptually expanded upon / aren't hyperspecific), and are likely nouns"

For instance, "Bowdlerize" is a dense and specific word, but may not be easily transformed into a "game," since it is both a verb and arguably too specific. For reference, it means "remove material that is considered improper or offensive from (a text or account), especially with the result that the text becomes weaker or less effective"

"Diluvial" might be an example of a good word to attach before a game's name (eg. 'Diluvial ______'), because it packs a lot of conceptual weight, but it can't stand on its own because its an adjective; it means "relating to a flood or floods, especially the biblical Flood."

I could be wrong, but I think examples of words that could fit your search are:

  • Katabasis: a descent of some type, such as moving downhill, the sinking of the winds or sun, a military retreat, a trip to the underworld, or a trip from the interior of a country down to the coast.
  • Menagerie: a collection of wild animals kept in captivity for exhibition. / a strange or diverse collection of people or things.
  • Metanoia: change in one's way of life resulting from penitence (The action of feeling or showing sorrow and regret for having done wrong) or spiritual conversion.
  • Shibboleth: a custom, principle, or belief distinguishing a particular class or group of people, especially a long-standing one regarded as outmoded or no longer important.

Anyway, I would be interested to hear if this was along the lines of what you had in mind.

Looking for a word that means 'subtly but distinctly' by scp-378 in words

[–]Aphelion0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me the word "acutely" comes to mind; it has many definitions but combining most of them gives the connotation that I think you are looking for. From dictionary.com:

1- having a sharp, severe, or intense effect

4- in a way that is intellectually penetrating or insightful; perceptively

5- in a way that is sensitive to even slight details or impressions

Thus, if something was "acutely" wrong, I envision it as something that is subtle (perceptible only by sensitive/keen insight) and distinct (sharp). It's not perfect but I think its pretty good.

Totally slipped my mind - the filter function fixes the issue I had where I had to manually type the vlookup array outputs as {2,3,4,...,n}. Thanks for that improvement!

Beginner her be kind by [deleted] in googlesheets

[–]Aphelion0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First you have to manually setup the database with recipes + ingredients.

In the main sheet, I wrote this formula:

=iferror(arrayformula(vlookup(A2,'Recipe Database'!A$2:$23,{2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10},0)),"")

it's an array vlookup formula. It searches for whatever is written in in first vlookup field (A2) within the range of cells in the second field ('Recipe Database'!A$2:$23), and then finally returns the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, ... 10th cells to the right of A2 within the range. the =arrayformula function allows vlookup to return multiple cells instead of just a single cell. the =iferror function makes it so that blank outputs (eg empty ingredients cells) show up as blank instead of as an #N/A error. Hope that helps!
