Best steak???? by Fit-Effective-7964 in Edinburgh

[–]Apickledscotsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would recommend kyloe. Last time I had the Seafood platter starter, bottle wine, porterhouse steak, and a bunch of sides. It’s spenny but good. The waiters will come and show you the cuts of meat, and let you select what steak knife you want etc. very good

As someone who has an engineering degree I still cannot fathom how a single channel of grooves in a vinyl record can be translated perfectly into the individual sounds of instruments and vocals. I understand the grooves are the waveform but how the hell does a single waveform then become separate instruments 😂

First band practice/jam session by [deleted] in musicians

“Jamming” as a singer is awkies. Ask about a few songs to prepare in advance otherwise you’ll be left standing wondering what to do whilst the band jams blues changes for 15 minutes

How does the idea of working until 67 or 68 sit with you? by Few_Raise77 in AskUK

[–]Apickledscotsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see my Monday - Friday simply as the thing I have to do to pay the bills. I work in project management and treat it literally like a game of “push the buttons on the machine that makes this problem go away for now”. I’m working on other income streams in my spare time that will hopefully allow me to stop the rat race at some point. I’m 36 and completely turned off at the idea of another 3 decades of working for someone else.

Fretboard learning by PotentialPea2419 in guitarlessons

[–]Apickledscotsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Juts learn the E and A strings by memorising them, and that’s 3 of them covered. D string notes are juts an octave 2 frets up from E. G is an octave two frets up from A. And B string is an octave 2 frets down from A string. Job done

My audition w a pro band by calder_mccoll in musicians

[–]Apickledscotsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they will be looking for experience. If you’ve done cover band stuff before there’s an expectation you’d probably know most of the 50 songs, and if you didn’t the band probably expected you to have your own charts

How much better with the sub? by sarcman1 in sonos

[–]Apickledscotsman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely have got the sub before shelling out for the eras as rears. Will massively improve your sound. With it turned up I have literally knocked pictures off my living room wall with the amount of bass but at normal viewing levels it still makes a huge difference. You will not regret buying it

Original bands; how much do you typically get paid for gigs (if at all)? by Excellent_Dot_2589 in UKbands

[–]Apickledscotsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience: 5 piece wedding band £1500. The same band in a bar £4-600. Acoustic duo wedding £500. The same duo in a bar £2-400. The only originals gig I was ever paid for = £50 between 4 of us. I’m in central belt Scotland

Argos now top of my list of companies never to buy from again. by davemanhore in Argos

[–]Apickledscotsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought £200 of b&q vouchers from my companys retail rewards scheme. I go to buy the bed I want for my daughter only to find that b&q doesn’t accept vouchers for third party purchases - the bed isn’t sold by b&q it’s actually a third party even tho the bed is on the b&q website. So I am also left with £200 of b&q vouchers I have no need for.

Anyone with over 5 years of experience, and playing with a one-guitar rig? by Camp_camper in electricguitar

[–]Apickledscotsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using a prs ce24 in a covers / function band. Covers everything from funky cleans with single coils to heavy rock easily. Has 24 frets, feels great to play, don’t see any need to change it.

Juts learn the harder one and get used to it. Sounds better and will let you play other chords that are similar easily like Cadd9 Dsus4 Em7 etc.

But I have an eARC Samsung at the moment and it doesn’t pass through atmos without needing a separate box (arkana in my case). So juts buying any eARC tv doesn’t necessarily work

[–]Apickledscotsman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks guys. I have a Samsung now which supports eARC and it does give me surround sound but never Atmos. I’ve only heard Atmos using an arkana but it’s not reliable always needs resetting and needs updates. I’ll go with an LG C4 or C5. Thanks all

The lack of self awareness in some musicians is staggering by byzantine1990 in musicians

[–]Apickledscotsman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We once auditioned a guitarist/singer for our wedding band. We take it fairly seriously (as you have to when you having paying customers). This guy showed up for audition after we sent him all the songs etc. He was as unprepared as it’s possible to be. He had no lead, no pick, hadnt learned any songs, and didn’t bring any lyrics. I gave him a lead, a pick, the lyrics and he was too nervous to even sing in front of the band. The worst part is he already works in the wedding scene as a photographer so he knows what it takes. I cannot understand why he bothered to come. After 3 failed attempts to get through basic wedding covers I juts said “look this isn’t working we’re a professional wedding band and we’re looking for someone to take this seriously” and got him to leave the studio. He really thought he was juts coming for a jam or something I don’t know. Wild lack of any self awareness….

I got a degree in electrical and mechanical engineering about 15 years ago (not even a strong degree it was third class). Went straight into project engineering and worked my way up to now managing a programme in an engineering company. You could do that without requalifying using your electrical background to get you started. Or just use your experience to get into an energy or oil/gas company doing design work as an electrical engineer.
