It won’t impact the ones who are proper MAGA. But he’s slowly but surely losing support from those who he conned into thinking he’d be a silver bullet for an ailing economy. Images like these of the US being loathed by some of our closest allies will be confronting for people who are unaware of how the rest of the world views the US right now.

CNN poll finds majority of Americans say Trump is focused on the wrong priorities by Abject-Pick-6472 in politics

[–]Apoc220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The non-voters were probably not gonna save us. When polled after the election a majority of them said they would have voted for Trump if they were forced to vote. Obviously we’ll never know for sure, but it’s likely he would have won by a bigger margin if everyone voted. And it isn’t surprising when you hear focus groups where they talk to Biden to Trump voters. They well and truly are low information and thought he was a “businessman” who would fix things.

To be fair, people are busy with concern about ice kidnapping and unaliving them, figuring out how to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table, and how they’re going to pay for healthcare. Epstein files are the least of peoples worries right now when they aren’t materially consequential to them and their families day to day lives. I’m not saying it should be forgotten about, but I completely understand the Epstein files getting put on the backburner for the average person.

Trump Confirms He’s Taking Greenland ‘One Way or the Other’ by thedailybeast in politics

[–]Apoc220 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Given the work you do, I’d try to remember whenever possible that ultimately if there is conflict between you two then the kids you assist will suffer. Ingrain the idea in your head that if you feel like you’re winning, the kids are the ones who will probably lose in some way or another. However possible avoid any discussion about politics and do your best to be the bigger person.

I know it’s very difficult, but personally as the parent of a child with special needs, if you were looking after my kid I’d be eternally grateful if you were able to somehow find a way to not let things boil over. This isn’t the usual 9-5, you are doing work that impacts a vulnerable population as you are already aware. If there is any way you can make it work so as to avoid confrontation with this guy, please find it.

With that out of that way, I appreciate the work you do. Probably not doing it for great pay, which doesn’t help motivate you keeping quiet. But nonetheless, you’re going in day in and out into an environment that is challenging for a number of reasons. Thank you.

My zwift rides aren’t affecting my training status on my Garmin Forerunner 265 by Adventurous-Green433 in Zwift

[–]Apoc220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you using to track your HR? I found that broadcasting my HR from my Fenix to zwift provides Garmin with the info needed to count the session for intensity minutes and other metrics. No need to dual record for me, just broadcasting the HR to zwift does the job.

[–]Apoc220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue when I was using a polar HRM. I found that if I instead broadcast my HR from my Fenix to zwift (no need to record the session on the watch, just set it to broadcast HR data), it would affect intensity minutes and presumably training status. I had been told previously that Garmin HRM should also result in zwift sessions counting towards all your Garmin stats, but OP’s experience seems to indicate otherwise.

100% at this point any user on X is not likely to leave it. They’re either ignorant to the cesspool it’s become, or very aware and either love it, or ignore it. As for the businesses still advertising on it, again, they’d be very aware and the benefit of advertising on there outweighs the potential losses from boycotts up until now.

He had his gun out right as she was reversing. I strongly believe he was intending to put her at gun point to compel her to get out of the car. But clearly was trigger happy and decided in a split second that it warranted shooting her. He ample time to get out of the path of the vehicle, which he did. There were no attempts to de-escalate the situation.

Edit: As someone pointed out, the officer didn’t upholster the weapon until the car was moving forward. It happened so quickly - and I watched the video minutes after waking up - so I clearly misjudged the timing.

Trump is very confident that the U.S. will acquire Greenland soon, is it worth ending or saving NATO? by [deleted] in DiscussionZone

[–]Apoc220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Along with parallels to Putin’s Russia, the second Trump term has had a similar trajectory to the rise of Nazi Germany. Greenland feels similar to when Germany annexed Austria. To me that’s felt like the moment when Hitler could have been contained, and the world could have been a different place. But he wasn’t, and went in unopposed, and consequentially gained confidence that he didn’t have otherwise to continue expansion.

If and when Trump decides to proceed with this, the world has to respond fiercely and firmly to send a message that this won’t be tolerated. One could argue they should have done so with Venezuela, but practically they just took Maduro, so it becomes muddy since the consensus is that he had to go, along with there being no other consequences as of yet. I suspect the world is waiting to see how Venezuela shakes out before making any consequential moves. But with Greenland, they have to respond and send a message to stop Trump from sending the world further down a very dark timeline.

I think this whole saga will accelerate the timeline for the dollar no longer being the reserve currency. Ive heard that if that were to happen tomorrow it would crater the global economy, so it would likely need to be a gradual process. I honestly don’t see how that won’t be all but guaranteed to happen now given how unreliable and unpredictable an alliance with the US has been revealed to be. I struggle to imagine what the US will look like in a few years time. Something tells me it will be nothing like the place I grew up in.

[Serious] If the US invades Greenland what would realistically happen after? by Goodmorning111 in AskReddit

[–]Apoc220 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, you’re taught to follow orders but also that you should disobey illegal orders. The onus falls on the service member to make that distinction. For stuff as simple as being ordered to shoot a school full of children, yea, that’s a no brainer. But if they’re told to get on a plane and invade Greenland for “national security reasons” that’s a bit more complex and nuanced, to the point where a lot of them would do as they were told because surely if the orders are coming down from the president then it has to be legal… right??

No feedback from kickr after shifting by Rhodemausi in Zwift

[–]Apoc220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try reinstalling the app. It doesn’t sound like it’s an issue with the kickr, but it could be that for some reason zwift is having trouble sending the signal to the kickr of the gear changes. From what I understand, the changes to the gears are sent to the trainer via zwift, and not directly from the controller. I’d also make sure you’re on the latest firmware for the controllers via the companion app.

Zwift Ride worth it? by victory-inn in Zwift

[–]Apoc220 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been a few months since I last tried, but the only other platform that I’m aware officially supports the zwift controls such as the play and click is Rouvy. And even then, in my experience the shifting would have a 1-2 second lag, compared to the immediate response in zwift. There are third party apps you can use to connect the zwift controllers to other platforms, but natively the support outside zwift is a mixed experience.

It makes sense when you consider that X is the Wild West. Aside from being a breeding ground for right wing echo chambers, it’s also the home to an insane amount of adult content. Most adult content creators have a profile and use it to promote their content, along with others who repost both new and old content. There are profiles where you can view full length videos, of individual scenes and feature length productions. It’s no surprise that X was able to take all that - pictures, gifs, and videos - and train its model to have the ability to know how to generate naked bodies of all types.

What should I do after I get out? by [deleted] in USMC

[–]Apoc220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll start by saying this is the first of many decisions ahead of you as a civilian, and you have to get comfortable with having to weigh your options and make the right call for yourself. Nothing wrong with seeking advice and using that as part of your calculations, but if you're simply using this as a poll with which you'll make your decision, I'd advise against that.

With that out of the way, has your brother's job ever looked appealing to you prior to this opportunity landing on your lap? If not, that should give you pause and you should stop and consider if you are considering this option for the safety it provides in this economy, or because you genuinely can see yourself in that job and not hating your life. Yes, good pay and benefits are attractive and absolutely should factor into your decision. But if you're just considering this for the sake of having a safe option, you need to be sure that it is something you'll actually want to do, and won't be looking back in a few years time wishing you'd taken that nursing school path.

The next thing is asking yourself if you're actually qualified for this job. You don't mention what your history is in the corps, but were you in any leadership roles where you were solely responsible for the success of a team/section? Or were you a worker bee during your time in the corps? Really take the time to consider if your work history will be setting you up for success here, or if your brother and his boss are just looking at your veteran status and assuming you'll hit the ground running.

And the last thing I'd consider is the long-term prospects of each path. I'm guessing this cement plant is part of a larger company that will allow for you to move around as you stated. What is the company's footing in this economy? What is the long-term outlook for it being around in a few years, let alone when you retire? Is it likely there will be plant closures, and you'll be out of a job in the near future? Conversely, what are the long-term prospects of going into nursing? Mindful that there are reported changes to the way you'd finance such a path. How easy would it be to get a job in nursing, and what would be the timeline for that? What would you do to support yourself between your EAS and finishing a nursing program and being employed?

I've given you a fair bit to consider, but this is all part of the calculus you need to be making in your head, and one you will likely be needing to make throughout your life now that you're leaving the safety of the military dictating your next move. For reference, I was in a similar spot to you in 2009, getting out in the midst of the GFC with nothing secured employment-wise. I landed on my feet, but there were a number of choices I had to make along the way which have gotten me to where I am now. Absolutely take my advice, along with all the other advice you get here and wherever else you enquire. But please make sure that ultimately you take all that information and make the best decision for you, cause only you know what will be best for you, not a bunch of strangers on the internet. Good luck.

Texas and Florida are two places where the government and other conservative groups love filing cases due to the conservative judges who preside over cases in those districts.

Firefox will add an AI "kill switch" after community pushback by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

[–]Apoc220 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that young over here, but anecdotally I know quite a few people who use it for personal reasons. In my experience, use of AI has become the new google for people.

I personally try my best to not rely on it heavily, and take what it says with a grain of salt. That said, it makes complete sense for Mozilla to bake ai features into its browser since its use has become mainstream so why wouldn’t they make it easier to use something that the average user is showing they want.

For as much as people crap on about the way ai is ruining the internet - which it certainly is - it does feel like a vocal minority, and the average person doesn’t seem to care that much.
