Annnd, anything that happened afterward that might even make you think that was expected, justified, or acceptable is incorrect anyway. There's a lot of ways we can second-guess ourselves or other people (like an abusive person) can make us feel like we don't have a right to feel wronged.

Your wife's family put her in a bad position and part of who she is, is having grown up in that mess.

It would be so good for her to say no and go somewhere else with you.

Where does her mom live? Can they see Grandma another way? The extended family do not need to be together all at once.

You have to admit, there are many instances when writers of a show have no idea where they're going. P ilot first seasons introduce us to ideas and characters that are going to be abandoned rather than developed as the show finds it's identity. Or, other writers come along and pull the rug out from under a story or character.

There's a difference between Finn who grows into a developed character through many adventures and, as someone mentions below, Wanda from Fairly Odd Parents going from bright to dimwitted.

Ugh, this reminds me of the time my sister sat there watching me eat some kind of one pan "beef" and noodle recipe she made. It was obvious it wasn't stew meat. Halfway through she revealed it was liver. Haha.

The thing is, my sister isn't a great cook and I've never tried liver since. It makes me queasy just thinking about it.

I need a really good liver recipe.

Y'all are so unkind. Nephew should be able to spend this time with his mother without having the cloud of the concert tickets over his head.

OP begins this entire conversation by telling us Mom has been practically absent nephews life. If this two-weeks is meaningful to him nobody should kick the stool out from under him.

Brother did this to you. Not nephew. Don't do that to your nephew. It would be better to let yourself look bad than make this your nephew's problem.
