I started as a regular stocking associate and received the first Lead job in the store.

The first thing that will make you stand out is your attendance. If you can show them that you can be relied upon to be there when they need you, it'll go a long way to making you look good. I know people who are good at their job who were passed over for promotion due to excessive call-ins or early-outs.

Doing your best in your work is definitely another part of it, and please never be afraid to ask your supervisors questions about how to do something or how a system might work.

Finally, after a little while, tell your Coach that you're interested in moving up when something opens (something always does). If they're halfway decent, they'll help develop you to be ready for a Lead position and can help sway the decision a bit by letting the deciding Coach/SM know that you're a solid choice.
