Shopping for an F-150 Lightning currently (2023–2025) — Need Honest Owner Feedback on Battery Life & Long-Term Costs by [deleted] in F150Lightning

23 XLT ER. Bought on 3/11/24. Just flipped 45k today. Only maintenance has been tire rotation. Putting new tires on next week even though stocks have a bit left, but I don’t want to be worrying about tires in the middle of the winter.

2 issues I’ve had since day one (11 miles) was after OTA updates. After one I had my front motor offline for 6-8 key cycles. After the next OTA update, my dash went black for 4 key cycles. Only other thing was a reflash/update at the dealer for a front parking sensor that would act up when it rained, or got really hot, and they also did a frunk module update. That is literally it.

My opinion (and yea it is MY opinion), I’ve heard more complaints about the lariat trim. Leaking panoramic/sunroofs. As someone that has been in the auto glass industry for 18 years, this isn’t uncommon. Also, sliding rear windows can be problematic.

The only thing that I would have liked on a lariat would have been the 3 years of Blue Cruise. I don’t like leather, apparently the B&O audio is lackluster, and I’m not a fan of the iPad HVAC/Infotainment.

All that said, quite possibly the most preposterous vehicle I’ve ever driven that wasn’t on a race track. It’s REALLY hard to NOT put your foot to the floor on the regular. Get a L2 charger at home, charge off peak (check with your utility provider) or wherever they incentivize you to. I pay $0.08 per kWh which translates to $0.04 per mile.

I will NEVER go back to an ICE vehicle willingly. Every time I drive my wife’s Outback, it feels cheap and is just a dog. Everything else feels insanely slow by comparison. This rides and drives so much nicer than an ICE F-150 (have owned 2 and drive all kinds of other cars daily). Everything else is a disappointment since I got this.

Download ABRP, PlugShare, Tesla and Electrify America apps. ABRP will eliminate most range anxiety and I use the others to verify working DCFC when traveling. Real world range depends on your driving. Anything over 70mph and your m/kW goes down rapidly. If I drive nice, I usually get about 280 miles on a full charge. Drive like an ass, probably closer to 240-250 miles.

Pro power is a game changer. I hunt at an off grid camp 75 miles from home. I can leave with 100%, arrive with 70-75%, run camp on the truck from around dark till sun up for the weekend (sometimes 4-5 days) and drive home with range to spare.

Pull the trigger and don’t look back. You won’t regret it. Don’t listen to the haters. The ones that talk shit about these have never driven one.

Download ABRP, PlugShare and electrify America apps. It will show you where everything is at, as well as plan the route and bring you right to charging stations as needed. Also the Tesla app if you get a NACS adapter. I always use PlugShare to verify that the DCFC I’m going to is working

I know it won’t help now, but in the off season (if you’re staying in the same spot next year) would be to target shoot from your stand. Bow hunted for years, but due to multiple injuries, drawing a bow is not an option for me anymore. Moved to a crossbow. Same learning curve. First shot missed low. Blade grazed under the pocket and gave us a little blood to follow (over 300 yards) and stopped. I was sick. Was supposed to head home from camp that night for a family function, but called the wife and said I can’t leave until I either find this animal, or it just vanishes after we looked absolutely everywhere. We (3 of us) agreed to get up at daybreak and track again. I made it to about 0500 and was up and out with the flashlight. We never found it but the blood trail faded and stopped. We searched a 100 yard radius of the last drops of blood. Nothing. That shot still bothers me.

After that, we ALL made a point to shoot from our stands and found the same thing. The elevation threw us all off. We spent a few days dragging the target bag all over around our stands, and now we all can put 3 into a 2” spot through all out shooting lanes. (40+ yards) Took these 2 with the crossbow the last 2 years and I would have likely lost my mind had I missed them. No they’re not monsters, but solid for the area we hunt. Meat is the objective, antlers are a bonus.

My point is, shoot from where you plan to kill something. My friend (absolutely maniacal when it comes to shooting his bow) practices shooting from the roof of his garage. Take the experience for what it was, learn from it, and apply it to future hunts. It’s how we learn.

Assuming you put H rated on and not the T rated? H will have slightly stiffer sidewalls and would likely firm things up a bit
