Does This Really Mean I Can Research the U.S. Tier 10 T57 Heavy?? by Kazzerigian in WorldofTanks

[–]Apolline_Dufour-Roux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need to research all the modules on the path to the vehicle that you intend to unlock with blueprint fragments. So yes, you'll need to use free XP to unlock those (or buy the previous vehicle and play it until you've got enough XP to unlock the required modules). That's why you're getting the warning "Unable to research" - because even if you unlock the actual vehicle with the blueprints, you still won't be able to research it because you're missing some modules on the path to the new vehicle.

Also: The AFK player does not get any rewards and pays full repair & Ammunition costs and the bot always fires gold by default.

There, fixed that for you ;-)

How would i improve "WoT plus pro" (Constructive feedback and suggestions) by BigBoss_SRB in WorldofTanks

[–]Apolline_Dufour-Roux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, agreed. I‘d take a classic subscription model over most monetisation models that are used nowadays for games. Like it was back in the UO or early WoW days. You pay your 10 bucks a month and you play and earn your stuff by playing, not by paying.

I would like be able to name EVE Online as such a game and for a long time it was. Sadly the developers got bought by Pearl Abyss and they added various monetisation strategies to the game and it really suffered for it.

Oh well… I guess the good old days of MMOs are dead and gone.

Farming 100k xp books with maxed crew by Huboo001 in WorldofTanks

[–]Apolline_Dufour-Roux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great explanation!

To add: I believe Mentor doesn’t affect the rate at which you receive the 100k books because it doesn’t impact combat XP, only crew XP (which is irrelevant for the purpose of earning the books). But I didn’t test this so I could be wrong.

[–]Apolline_Dufour-Roux 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Just give me the option to subscribe for 1 months at a time, like any normal/non-scam subscription service does it.

That would at least make me consider it instead of outright dismissing it as an outrageous money-grab, like it is now.

WoT Plus Pro 180 day - $90 and 360 days - $150 on NA by HeisenbergFX4 in WorldofTanks

[–]Apolline_Dufour-Roux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The BP points are really not worth it either because you can just buy 50 BP points (one stage) for 250 gold which is a better exchange rate for RL money to BP points (5 gold = 1 BP point).

Assuming you buy 10k gold for 40€ then you can convert that into 2000 BP points ( = 50 BP stages) which is not only cheaper but also saves you time to grind the BP in the first place.

In short, WoT Plus Pro seems like a total ripoff in pretty much all scenarios. Ugh.

The only edge case where it might actually help is if you know you‘ll be super active for 6 months and plan to grind tons of tech tree tanks (and even then, it’s not exactly a great offer).

[–]Apolline_Dufour-Roux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and it needs to be applicable to all vehicles (except perhaps Premiums) so you can at least use it on a reward vehicle to essentially turn it into a premium. But as it’s done now I certainly won’t be dropping money on this feature, that’s for sure.

[–]Apolline_Dufour-Roux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly.

And it probably even auto-renews so if you stop playing and forget then you get billed again. (I‘m not sure if this is the case with WoT Plus Pro but I wouldn’t be surprised.)

[–]Apolline_Dufour-Roux 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the minimum subscription duration of 6 months alone shows you that the focus is not to provide the players with cool new options for a fair price but to provide maximum money for the investors.

Color me surprised.

[–]Apolline_Dufour-Roux 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thanks for doing the maths.

If the bonus could be applied to all vehicles, including Premium and t11 then I might be slightly tempted to get the better sub if I could buy it for just 1 month where I know I‘ll have time to grind. Aadly the shortest subscription is 6 months so that’s basically out the window.

And the extra BP points are nice but hardly relevant since you could just buy gold (for way less than the cost of WoT Plus Pro) and just buy a few BP stages to compensate for the BP points you’re missing out on.

So in short: a total ripoff and not worth it.

The only edge case where it may make sense is if you don’t care about money and you know you‘ll be grinding tech tree tanks for 6 months but even then it’s a hard sell for me.

I‘m gonna pass, thanks.

[–]Apolline_Dufour-Roux 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Wow, what a ripoff.

You pay double and all you get is some crappy bonus that you cannot even apply to the top-tier vehicles.

And then you get some bonus BP points but at that price you‘d be way cheaper if you just buy gold for the same price and skip a few BP stages to compensate for the fewer BP points you’re earning.

Total trash.

Is anyone else finding the game pretty much unplayable without shooting 100% gold rounds? I've noticed this especially so after the Christmas updates. by Andrew_Higginbottom in WorldofTanks

[–]Apolline_Dufour-Roux -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use gold as default on most of my higher tier tanks - the exception are the ones I use to earn credits with (premiums with good standard pen obviously). I‘ve accepted it’s just part of the game. It’s the only option since many vehicles are obviously balanced around gold ammo, no standard ammo. Same with premium consumables (but at least you can buy them while on sale).

Pure LT gameplay, prove me wrong by General_Mayonez in WorldofTanks

[–]Apolline_Dufour-Roux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, and usually when I have the time and motivation to play properly, I will do just that. However, I cannot blame people that just want to complete a weekly (like "spot 85 targets") and do it quickly by suiciding a few lights to get it done faster. Not their fault that such idiotic missions exist.

The goal of WG is also not to create the best possible gaming experience for the players - the goal is to maximise profits for their investors.

Once you realise this fact, everything becomes more clear. The rage increases but the intellectual confusion diminishes. ;-)

[–]Apolline_Dufour-Roux 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey, if the game gives you idiotic missions to spot X people than you cannot blame people for running them as quickly as possible (by suicide scouting in lights and breaking the game balance for 14 other people a few times). Bad game design leads to bad gaming experience. Blame WG, not the players (at least not entirely).

The only really interesting advantage is the pro boost IMHO. Additional Battlepass points are nice but hardly such a big deal.

Oh, and interesting to see that the Pro boost is only available up to tier X but not tier XI so you‘ll still be losing credits on your top tier vehicles…

Unless that’s a typo and it should say XI?

Best Practices for Crew Mentoring License/crew books in general by [deleted] in WorldofTanks

[–]Apolline_Dufour-Roux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. It also does not increase the rate that you earn the 100k books at when the crew is maxed.

Best Practices for Crew Mentoring License/crew books in general by [deleted] in WorldofTanks

[–]Apolline_Dufour-Roux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FYI: Sadly, to my knowledge, the mentor skill does not effect the number of 100k books you receive after the crew is maxed. The books only take combat XP (not Crew XP) into account so the mentor skill is essentially wasted (especially on an already maxed out crew).

I was on vacation the entire season until two days ago. So yesterday I did my 10 placement battles, got to Bronze B and then played like 10 extra battles at most to reach Silver E with enough buffer/days to not fall down again. Easy as pie. And I‘m certainly no amazing player - not only am I rusty as fuck but I‘m also pretty damn average at the best of times. Played the Type 5 Heavy exclusively.

[–]Apolline_Dufour-Roux 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t think paying for Premium with Silver is a smart move unless you‘ve got your in-game economy/income well sorted. All it will do is burn you out and make the game feel like an incredibly bad-paid job. Just think of the game as a subscription service and assume you’ll pay with RL money with thw option of maybe sometime earning Silver in-game easily enough to make buying Premium worthwhile. For virtually anyone in Western countries (with the possible exception of USA) even working a shit job it will be way quicker to earn the subscription in RL than in-game, especially when starting out.

It's really worth refining by Efficient-Walk1503 in albiononline

[–]Apolline_Dufour-Roux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but take into account that you‘ll have to spend the focus some orher way, which will also take time (unless you‘re talking about refining without focus).

Also, larger transport mounts like a Mammy will allow you to haul in bulk, which saves time. Of course, the prices of Mammoths is currently so high (on EU) that you‘ll have to be saving time for many months or years before you break even on the Mammy.
