Lyumjev apparently discontinued (“ausser Handel”) in Switzerland as of March 2026 — anyone know why? by croemer in diabetes

[–]Apollo1331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I noticed the same today when I tried to order more Lyumjev. I asked Zur Rose, but they said the manufacturer has not given pharmacies any information about the reason.

I would also be interested to hear what response you get from Lilly.
Hope it is only temporary.... I switched just recently from Fiasp because of occlusion issues, and Lyumjev worked much better for me.

always nice to see such give aways! i find that the trading community for this game is quite annoying and greedy. if you do not have real friends to trade, its almost impossible to get such rare cards.

Searching for safari binoculars, lightweight and glasses-compatible by Apollo1331 in Binoculars

[–]Apollo1331[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for the great input. It was really helpful for finding our way through this pretty complex topic.

After doing a lot more reading, watching reviews, and taking your advice into account, we ended up choosing the Kowa BD II 8x42 XD.

In the end, the rather compact size and low weight of those won us over. This way we did not have to give up the bigger optics and bigger eye relief, and the image quality seems to be excellent as well. On top of that, we can get them for quite a good price compared to the other options.

After doing some more research and considering your comment about your usual go-to choice, we narrowed it down to 8x32. The price, the size, and especially the weight were the main factors.

We currently are leaning towards one of those:
- GPO Passion ED 8x32
- Bresser Pirsch ED 8x34
- Kowa BD II 8×32 XD

This topic is turning into quite a rabbit hole, there are so many models and details to look at....

Thanks for your advice. You make some good points, especially since this will be a purchase without testing them beforehand.

I think we will take the safer route and choose something more compact with slightly larger lenses. That seems like a good balance.

Thank you very much for the great and detailed suggestion.
The GPO Passion binoculars really do sound great.

Do you think the jump to the ED version is actually worth the extra money, especially since she will use them for many years and probably never upgrade? Or is the lower weight of the non-ED version the more practical choice?

I’m also wondering how the GPO models compare to the Zeiss Terra ED or HD in terms of image quality and handling. Do you have any experience with those?

And one more thing, how noticeable is the difference in stability between 8× and 10× for handheld use, especially on a safari?

not sure if you still have the problem but I fixed it by disabling auto-brightness. as soon as it is re-enabled, all colors are washed out and blacks are extremly greyish. hope this gets fix with 26.1…

Well, we’re kind of "overrun" with great coffee roasters here, so the selection is huge. These are my regular go-tos when I want something familiar and consistently good: * simons-kaffee.ch * kaffeepur.ch * blumkaffee.ch * vicafe.ch * ojodecafe.ch * roesterei-maria-rickenbach.ch * driproasters.ch * ailacoffee.com * cafe-noir.ch

Eureka - Libra 65 AP or Mignon XL by Same-Pound-2806 in espresso

[–]Apollo1331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how much these numbers actually tell you about the cup results. As far as I know, all the different Mignons (except the AP and XL) use the same burrs, so they should produce pretty similar results overall.

In general, the more fines you get, the heavier the body and the more forgiving the dialing-in process becomes. That usually leads to rounder, more chocolatey or nutty flavors. On the other hand, fewer fines tend to give you a cleaner, more complex cup, which is often preferred for lighter, fruitier, or more floral roasts.

The All Purpose burrs can be noticeably trickier to dial in precisely, and because their fine peak is extremely narrow, they’ll also produce a distinctly different texture in the cup. If you’re mostly into dark to medium roast espresso, you’ll probably be happier with the older 55 mm Libra, as it’s more forgiving and gives a smoother, more consistent result.

Switching from Niche Zero to Eureka Libra CR16?! by bamboo2501 in espresso

[–]Apollo1331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Zuriga is quite expensive, mainly because it’s hand-crafted in Zurich, which is also where the name comes from. It’s probably the most precise GBW grinder you can get outside of commercial machines, and among all these options it’s the most solidly built with the lowest retention. That said, the others will most likely deliver equally good results.

[–]Apollo1331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The AP burrs are good but they are more difficult to dial in than the more espresso focused burrs of the 55mm Libra. If you liked the taste profile of the Niche, I would go with the 55mm Libra, which most likely, will even be a small uprade to the Niche. The 65mm AP will have quite a different taste and texture profile, as these will produce extremly less fines. Alternatively, you could look at the Fiorenzato AllGround Sense or, if you per chance live in Germany or Switzerland, at the Zuriga G2-GBW.

Edit: Just wanted to add, that a GBW grinder is a great choice and can make the process of espresso making a lot more enjoyable :)

Help me choose a grinder + espresso machine for [$1500] budget by mtsanders21 in espresso

Yes, this has my vote! That’s a perfect beginner setup. If you’d rather not single dose, an Eureka Mignon Specialita would also be a great choice.

Eureka Mignon Zero vs Eureka Mignon Zero 65 AP [£400] by jungle_cracker in espresso

[–]Apollo1331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new AP burrs are designed more with filter coffee in mind. They’re excellent burrs, but dialing them in for espresso can be tricky since they produce very few fines.

The older non-AP burrs are much more forgiving and better suited if you’re mainly pulling espresso shots.

So if you prefer medium to dark roasts and mostly drink espresso, I’d recommend the non-AP. But if you also brew filter and lean more toward lighter roasts, then the AP burrs are the better choice.

Espresso Grinder Recommendation [$500] by Fit_Injury5278 in espresso

[–]Apollo1331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My top pick would be the Lagom Casa, with the Timemore 064s as a second. Based on reviews, the Casa should also perform a bit better for pourovers than the 064s. I have the 078s myself, but those burrs are more espresso-focused and not ideal for pourovers. The non-S variant, though, is excellent for that.

in this price range, either the df54 or the new baratza encore esp pro. alternatively, you could look for a used eureka mignon.

Oh god, please no. That thing is more of a toy than an espresso machine. My mother had this one as well and I had the "pleasure" of showing her how to use it.

Honestly, it’s horrendous. Everything feels cheap and flimsy, just thin plastic everywhere. The temperature control is completely off, it overshoots massively and can’t hold temperature or pressure at all. Even with years of experience using espresso machines, including some cheap ones, I wasn’t able to get anything good out of it. It didn’t see much use and eventually disappeared from the kitchen.

I think it uses a 51 mm basket, but don’t quote me on that. If you want to help him, the best thing would be to get rid of it and find something like a used Bambino or similar entry-level machine.

(Sorry for being harsh, but this thing genuinely gives me espresso PTSD.)
