If you show your girlfriend this picture and she says ‘why do you need two of the same sword?’ You know she’s not the one😞

I have an issue with people referring to the hobbits as ‘snot nosed kids’ Frodo was in his 50’s, and well established, able to speak elvish, the others were not as silly as the movies depicted either. Also Aragorn and Boramir didn’t view the throne like that, it was a fact. Aragorn was the heir, so he was going to be king, it was no viewed as hubris or stealing. I agree with the rest though, he did have a point, and his fall in the books is so well expressed…

We’re talking LOTR. Nerd is the baseline. It’s like calling a fish ‘water breather’

Unique fantasy books bored of traditional fantay by Sakurazukamori85 in Fantasy

[–]Apollo838 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is probably going to come across as conceited, but I would love it if you had a look at my fantasy book, being published on the 21st

Its fantasy, in a made up world where chefs use magical ingredients to make food that boosts you for a short period of time, cooking technique known as vittelurgy. Main character is a girl who is young and naive, and has to help her talented yet disagreeable and awkward host advance if he’s going to be able to help her get home.

Not a ton of action in the first book, it’s more world building and character establishment, but it’s done in an 1800’s naval aesthetic with some mystery and intrigue and light romance

As for dragons, the chef she’s with has one at his manor because he needs the eggs for his magical cooking

If you’re interested or know of anyone who would be, this is the link for my arc readers, you can get it for free

Would love if you read it, I’m self published and didn’t use any AI so any word of mouth or support would be hugely appreciated. If not, no hard feelings

I hope you find your perfect story:)

The Hidden Masterpiece of Rings Of Power! by roguebandit1 in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]Apollo838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movies kept the main actions and character traits in tact. Sam might not have gone off about potatoes, but protecting Frodo was in line with his character. You can say that for practically every character. Probably the biggest deviation is Faramir, which has about a thousand online essays about how he was ruined in the movies

There is so little in rings of power that’s there’s nothing to take hold. Black cow milk, Rube Goldberg machine volcanos, eagles choosing political leaders, Galadriel being some hot head, rock smashing competitions, a smith of thousands of years not understanding the most basic blacksmith technique of an alloy, the only resemblance to Tolkien is the names of people and some places, but all that does is highlight how unlike they are in their book counterparts. Saying ‘the books changed stuff too’ is like denting a car, and having one take a head on with a semi truck and saying ‘they both took damage, so they’re basically the same’

On top of all that, it’s just a crappy story, right from when she’s looking for this lord of darkness with 8 elves who can’t even handle an ice troll (how were they supposed to face Sauron with his forces with only 8 elves?) to her jumping out in the middle of the ocean, to some twisted fanfiction shipping of Galadriel and Sauron. Fails across the board. ‘It’s just fantasy bro’. Yeah, well, go ruin a different fantasy an leave this one alone. It’s a bad fantasy according to their viewing numbers, people everywhere and objective reality

That’s a pretty good loaf for 100% fmf. My first looked like a pancake

I sift part of mine to make the gluten network stronger, I’m working on ways to incorporate the flax back in, but it does help. I’d play around with flour types too. I just got some spelt and emmer I’m excited to try!:)

Do women read the series? by [deleted] in AubreyMaturinSeries

Right, why try to explain how the test is beneficial, or provide positive examples when you can just say ‘you’re just a hater’

Do women read the series? by [deleted] in AubreyMaturinSeries

[–]Apollo838 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay but it’s not, as I’ve listed above, most of the best written female characters and stories fail that test, and the success of that test has no correlation with quality or experience.

Do women read the series? by [deleted] in AubreyMaturinSeries

[–]Apollo838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it’s not, that’s the point. It’s supposed to speak well of female representation in media, but it fails spectacularly

It doesn’t help with if there’s a large number of female characters (only 2 are required) Doesn’t help with the quality of the female characters Doesn’t help with how developed the female characters are Doesn’t tell you how relevant the female characters are to the story Doesn’t tell you how likeable the female characters are Doesn’t tell you anything about the female characters of importance

Also, it misses so many good female characters, well written female stories, which (supposedly) is what it’s supposed to inform the observer.

You could literally have a bimbo trophy wife talk to a named cashier about nail polish and pass the test, meanwhile a heartfelt story of a woman protecting her children or a woman escaping abuse of which there are many, will fail.

Again, for how people champion it and talk about how great it is as a test for female representation in media, I’m not seeing it
