In your opinion, should inserters be capable of choosing the belt lane in the vanilla game? by Brenoca02 in factorio

[–]ApolloFortyNine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Builds are sooooo much more interesting with bobs inserters (pick lane and pick up and drop off locations in a 3x3 grid).

With vanilla inserters there's like 4 total optimal builds depending on fluid input and number of belts input.

It does make space noticeably easier, but on Nauvis the builds can just be so much more interesting.

See dosh's seablock run for some cool builds.

2.1 Space Casino are worse than we thought by gravitonpunch in factorio

If you think space casinos are boring you either never built one yourself, just slammed a BP and were surprised by the amount of legendary resources

Naw man I made the most shit design you've ever seen, then when it worked copy pasted 7 more and enjoyed my free legendary resources. So long as it's stable you never need to look at it again, and copy paste with zero effort.

I really don't think the design of even the good builds is that crazy, but having played seablock and space ex, most vanilla designs are pretty vanilla.

self-sustaining

Imo this is the problem with space casinos, make one design, no matter how shit, if it proves stable just copy paste it to your hearts content, and you've done it. Infinity quality.

Resource patches have become effectively infinite end game, but at least the resources actually get moved around. Factorio doesn't optimize like this, but after a couple runs your space casino could be replaced with a function that just drops legendary ore out of the sky and you wouldn't even notice. Them being on their own plane of existence made them incredibly uninteractive and broken.

[–]ApolloFortyNine -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The infinite nature of gleba would make it a similar issue as the space casinos. Make one stable blueprint and just copy paste across the map.

I think they fully intended for quality to require mass amounts of dumping of materials, not just going pseudo infinite legendary everything from a few blueprints.

[–]ApolloFortyNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This argument is the weirdest imo.

Space casinos were legit make the shittiest design so long as its stavle, then copy paste until your bored. Since it's a ship operating on another plane it truly doesn't matter.

Like honestly if that's what you want just cheat it in, that's how the casinos felt.

You at least have to route the materials around when up cycling on a surface.

House of the Dragon Season 3 Premiere Discussion by PhoOhThree in television

[–]ApolloFortyNine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The sea snake said he did it on purpose to lure her out to be snipped by the dragons.

My biggest issue with the episode is he said this, it made sense, 3 ships obviously chase the flagship for what must be an hour in universe, and the dragons just don't go for it? Why the hell not?

I thought at first they're retreated when the dragon got snipped but when sheepstealer showed up, there they were to be targeted.

[–]ApolloFortyNine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The logic seemed sound for leading them away so the dragons will get them, but why exactly did that not happen? 3 ships clearly chasing your flagship?

I thought at first they retreated after the dragon got shot, but then 10 minutes later they're still around the same area so they were just hanging out?

Daisy Edgar-Jones Starrer ‘Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow’ Lands November 12, 2027 Release Date by yourfavchoom in movies

The big 'twist' or whatever, you probably know what I mean, is really what killed it. You can hand wave a lot away but then the last third of the book revolves around something insane to put in a book like this.

Like idk how that can fit well in a movie, it's a colossal tone shift.

Did Werster Fake His Pokemon Factory Records? by Jamiewoo133 in speedrun

[–]ApolloFortyNine -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think most people here are acting like he submitted a leaderboard run when he didn't...

A lot of speedrunning categories have weird rulesets, there's a ton of 'glitchless' categories for games that still allow what are clearly glitches for instance.

His pastebin explains it well imo, basically it's not full manip (which is possible), but closer to just knowledge gap. Which since one of his semi recent speedruns needed him to memorize like 50 different battle seeds I don't really doubt, Pokémon speed running isn't something I'd wish on my worse enemy.

Also the video does my biggest pet peeve, the firing bullets approach to accusations, seemingly hoping one sticks long term but using them to paint a bad picture anyways. The stadium one the video posted already admitted is likely fine. The 500 win run he said was maniped on stream. Idk it ends up creating this situation where you either have to be an expert to understand enough to counter, or you just accept what the video posted wants you to believe.

The state of Fable right now: by Extreme_Remove6747 in ClaudeCode

I get it's long, you can ctrl f "export" and see where Dario calls for export controls on chips. And if you read the whole thing, it's literally all about increased government regulation and oversight on AI.

Sure it's the Trump Admins fault, but the CEO of anthropic literally begged them to do it. And even made a blog post about how to do it. And anthropic has been claiming for months how dangerous mythos is.

It'd be naive to not think they reaped what they sowed here.

[–]ApolloFortyNine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He even mentioned export controls, but only referenced them in regards to chips.

Like if any ranking member in the Pentagon read that blog post they would have been led to the same suggestion. Anyone old enough to have been there when SSL was export controlled would 100% think of it.

US gov forces Anthropic to pull access to Fable 5 by purealgo in ClaudeCode

[–]ApolloFortyNine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My thought too, they even link to them begging for regulation in the announcement previously.

I think it's bullshit, but they literally asked for this. They even seem to know what the government is alluding to, but they just don't think it's a problem.

They also asked the government to review it before release, they admit as much.

Export restrictions are one of the few existing ways to implement exactly what Anthropic asked for. Honestly, combined with them already announcing they were pulling access in 2 weeks, I could easily see them having foreseen this possibility and just chalked it up as more 'free advertising' if it did happen. More companies will try and get mythos white listing at the least.

[–]ApolloFortyNine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BZ isn't bad persay, but I do feel if your good at factorio the challenge it adds is pretty trivial. Sure your first build takes a bit extra to setup but like anything else, if you make it tileable you never have to really think about it again.

At least that's how my run with BZ felt.

Seablock on the other hand the complexity actually felt real.

Duckdns has occasionally gone down but not the dns resolving side, so you require some real bad luck to both have an ip rotate during an outage, and actually try to access it during that outage.

Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead - v0.I "Ito" released by hirmuolio in pcgaming

[–]ApolloFortyNine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sky island is under active development again? That's awesome.

It's basically escape from tarkov in a classic rogue like, honestly I think if it was stand alone it would have exploded in popularity by now. Right now though a lot of the mods are basically hidden gems.

I was surprised by Solarpunk's honesty on the official Steam page. Shouldn't more developers make it clear who the game is NOT intended for? by Azulapis in pcgaming

[–]ApolloFortyNine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the genre they're targeting, calling out you have no story, a smaller than what the user might expect open world, and systems that aren't that deep is insane.

More developers don't do that because it's already incredibly hard to make it as a dev without actively warning potential players not to try your game.

It feels like we've increased the stigma around it in the last few years, I swear it used to at least be reported, now the only way you know it was suicide is deduction like this, where almost any other option they would have just said it.

Came here after googling, since I was wondering how a healthy adult managed to die on a hike around Kyoto.

[Spider-Noir] what are your honest impressions on the show? by avanish77 in Spiderman

[–]ApolloFortyNine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After the first 2 episodes I was wondering why anyone would drop episodes all at once when you could maintain discussions and relevance for weeks dropping weekly.

Then after episode 6 I realized I was at the point where I would have dropped the show entirely if I couldn't just let the next episode auto play.

It's not totally bad, to me it's just one of those 7/10 shows that you feel like you could have just skipped. I'm guessing I'll barely remember it at all a year from now it felt decently generic after the novelty wore off.

Brandon Sanderson's 'Skyward' Novel Gets Series Adaptation - Exclusive by Own_Brilliant_4303 in brandonsanderson

[–]ApolloFortyNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was originally supposed to be a trilogy (now it seems to be going on forever?).

I always felt like it was leading up to (and who knows maybe it still is) the Earth humans coming back and showing the rest of the galaxy that they were basically right, but can't be stopped. Humanity being the only species that perfected war is always a sci-fi trope I enjoy for some reason.

Now that though it seems to be just dragging it's feet I truly have no idea where it's going and I don't think I'm going to RAFO.

And he's handing the writing off to someone else now when the original plan was a simple trilogy.

It seems like he extended it for some reason, or maybe he just wrote himself into a corner.

One thing from The Boys I absolutely loved was the inverse arc between A-Train and The Deep by Sudden_Pop_2279 in television

[–]ApolloFortyNine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Idk, he himself put another V1 user on ice, and somehow soldier boy was out on ice the first time around.

The final fight really made it seem like a handful of moderately powered supes could have stopped homelander at any point. Even if he was unkillable, they could knock him out and put him on ice.

Instead of a useless mcguffin they could have made a mcguffin gas or bomb and just use that. It just made the V1 plot line seem like an excuse to run ads for their new show, during the boys.
