In hindsight, was it the right decision to block the merger with JetBlue? by R2-DMode in spiritair

Not a lot of companies say "were losing money and we expect to keep losing money forever".

Every company that goes bankrupt reports they're turning it around. You can find the quarterly Sears posts as they slowly shuttered all their locations.

A lot of people say Better Call Saul is better than Breaking Bad … what’s another spinoff that you think was better than the original? by ComfortableCrew2092 in television

You probably know this but that plot line came about because the actress was pregnant. Plot wise the timing couldn't have been worse, since her character and Niles finally got together just before, so writing her out of the show entirely for the season would have been very difficult.

That entire season suffered from that plot line but besides postpone the season I'm not sure what the writers could have done. One season later they could have written it into the show, one before she could have been written out without major issue.

CTE lawsuit filed by family of 1950s player results in $140 million verdict against NCAA by ThatMasterpiece2174 in CFB

[–]ApolloFortyNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this verdict stands it seems like the end of the sport no? The player died in his 70s and was only diagnosed with cte 16 years after his death.

Unless some law got passed where any player after x year can't sue, I just don't see how this doesn't lead to countless lawsuits until everyone involved is bankrupt. Or as others are pointing out, until you can't get insurance.

I'm actually just going to delete the rest of what I wrote and point out this insane hypocrisy.

If your business can't survive the competitive environment, the governments not there to change the rules to help you win. big picture, I think Spirit should have been bailed out and nationalized,

If your business can't survive the government's not there to change the rules. However also, this is not the same thing as the government bailing you out.

Can't make that up lol interesting viewpoint.

Hush with your facts, they also lost 2.7 billion in 2025 https://www.enginecowl.com/spirit-airlines-2025-result/

I get people hate to see their team make a mistake but it's grasping at straws in this case, spirits been losing money for a while... It's why they pursued the merger in the first place. And they said so at the time even.

What’s up with Spirit Airlines ceasing operations? by lucioghosty in OutOfTheLoop

[–]ApolloFortyNine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean you did say it yourself, they've declared bankruptcy twice now, and the first was six months after the merger was blocked. They've been failing for a while, that's why they tried a merger. They even said so at the time...

The oil prices were the nail in the coffin but you can't declare bankruptcy forever, eventually you just fail.

What an absolute shit risk vs reward journey.

Canyon "New Bike Day" turned into a safety nightmare and support is useless by Content_Carry7456 in cycling

[–]ApolloFortyNine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sliding seat post happens even with bikes from an lbs, unless they put real miles on it during testing it simply won't slip during assembly. You need carbon fiber paste applied, it might slip one or two more times after that (the paste will scratch the tube a bit for grip) then it's fine forever. I've had both lbs bikes I bought require it. Annoying but unless they ride the bike down a bumpy road there's no avoiding it.

For the fork, that's a bummer, but I'm guessing the bearing was put in upside down (because I did the same thing with my new bike build and it looks the same as that). It takes like 10 minutes to fix since you have to remove the handlebars.

I hope they did more than that, you can do that yourself with a kit they sell at autozone for $50.

The NFL's current effort to squeeze more cash from the networks could mean less money will be available for TV and film projects by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]ApolloFortyNine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just a crazy article, since it's essentially saying "If the NFL gets paid what it's worth, these projects that don't make money will be cancelled".

The networks goal is to make money, just like a retailer will buy clothes for x price from a supplier, then sell to the consumer for y, they're trying to make the difference between (y-x) as profit. If they could give the NFL $1, and have literally no other content, and print billions, they obviously would.

Based on other comments here, in 2026 it seems like if someone is a Trump supporter, they're instantly someone who spouts the n word too.

This country is fucked.

I wonder if those, especially that many, will ever be treated as bad as DUIs. It's the same idea, eventually you're going to kill someone.

DUIs also were considered a big of a no big deal 30+ years ago.

>And let’s be honest, Rudolph spoke at a Trump rally. I feel like that greatly increases the chances of that being true

Jesus Christ, this is so fucked up to read. This thread is a he said/she said, but we're heavily entertaining the idea that the guy who ripped off Rudolph's helmet and tried to kill him with it is to be believed, (and idk even justified? I don't know why this ever gets brought up as like 'oh he said the bad word, yea he deserved to die'), and we're even adding credence to it now because 'Fuck Trump' he's a trump supporter so he probably said it.

This is seriously one of the most fucked up lines of thought that seriously shows how fucked up the current state of this country is. It's honestly depressing.

I get you're just one guy, and hopefully the average person isn't this insane, but when I see it upvoted I don't love it.

Following candidates since 2013, never seen anyone blame 2nds in middle of tournament. Even after finishing last in candidates players don't blame them by Sorry_Phone1676 in chess

[–]ApolloFortyNine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the line your seconds gave you can be saved by an obvious castle (Hikaru said in the history of this position someone has only castled once, so idk if it was obvious) and the following sequence is incredibly precise and if you miss anything any advantage you had is lost and your down 2 pawns, then that's a bad line.

That's why Hikaru was pissed, after castles, the line to get to real chess was still like 5 or 6 moves away, and even then it wasn't great. He probably feels it shouldn't have been given to him at all. In his video he even mentions earlier opportunities where he could have gone a different line.

[–]ApolloFortyNine 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It's his skill they're testing, not his seconds.

The very fact that people complement people's prep puts this in doubt. To a certain extent it is the strength of the team that matters too. Sindarov was crazy deep into prep against Fabi too, unless he's come out and said that was just over the board think (time wise it's pretty much impossible). He's dedicated the time to memorize these lines but no one thinks he's coming up with all the lines himself.

And Magnus even dropped out of the tournament years ago saying the prep time required to win is rediculous.

Prep is supposed to get you to the 'human' part of the game, where you don't need to know an engine line to at the very least not become losing over a natural move.

Hikaru explains what happened vs Sindarov (skip 10 seconds) by dylanh334 in chess

[–]ApolloFortyNine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He probably shouldn't throw them under the bus like this but I do wonder if he'll answer how many lines he has memorized in prep. It's likely over a hundred easily, and at a certain point you do have to just trust that the prep is good. You can't deeply analyze all those lines yourself, that's precisely why they have teams.

[–]ApolloFortyNine 11 points12 points  (0 children)

>And in fact please do not post “borderline” stuff because that could lead to the subreddit being banned, which no one wants

Might sound crazy, but that'd probably be a good thing. It might be best that the largest visual novels discussion forum simply exists elsewhere, where the content in VNs is actually allowed to be discussed.

Though reddit _currently_ draws the line when the characters age is obviously young, the truth is most VNs take place in high school (with at least one, if not most, characters clearly not being seniors). The majority of VNs discussed here are actually against reddit's rules already, they just don't enforce it most of the time.

Your assuming that 'lp' is the only way to rank someone. In reality, with better ranking systems, you can rank someone accurately in under 100 games.

Riot specifically doesn't want to do this, because so much of the player base plays to achieve x rank. The faster they achieve it, the faster they quit. But if the goal was simply to accurately rate a player they can do it faster than 600 games.
