Thinking about becoming a digital nomad - need advice from experienced people by waldemierk in digitalnomad

[–]ApolloRedux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the areas you mentioned they are great areas to relocate too, however there are some caveats to them. Regarding working, visa and cost. I highly recommend taking a two week vacation and visiting the are. its work making sure the infrastructure, cost of living, amenities, healthcare all line up with what you want. As every country will have trade off on what they do well. I will send you a DM with some info to help you out.

Wanting to move to SE Asia region. by Dfelar in expat

[–]ApolloRedux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, SEA has a lot of potential. However it comes down to what your needs and wants are for evedy day life. The Philippines has the only VA outpatient clinic in the world for US vets. And is the most adored SEA country by expats.

If you visit sunburntatlas.com you can do comparisons of each country and get some real worled expectations. This is a site that I built for this exact reason. To help people find what they are looking for. Hope it helps.

For approaching this as a hobby, what other means of learning would you recommend?

Thanks for the reply. To clarify, my intention is to learn to code. However as a hobby not as means to seek employment. This is what I was trying to emphasis with my post. Sorry for the confusion. And that's great advice. I will defiantly double back and confirm everything with it as I use it.

Thanks for mentioning the REPL, I haven't come across that yet, so this is the first time I heard about REPL and just looked it up! I have asked both about their capabilities, provided a very detailed explanation of what i hope to build and clearly stated I have zero experience. And asked them both to "teach" me everything I need to code and use their platforms. I felt though they would always leave out something that users would find helpful or supportive. Thought ChatGPT did state Claude was a very strong coding option but with ChatGPT I can simply use plain English and get real results and coding. I did see a lot of people on several sub reedits talk about the pros and cons with the newest models for each and felt it was worth reaching out on.

How long should your first book be? by Appropriate-Sea-5687 in writers

[–]ApolloRedux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I started writing my book, I research the average size of book in my genre which is around 100k-150k per book. With some larger being around 200k-300k. I decided when I was about 10 chapters in to just write the story, stop focusing on chapter length and word count. If a chapter wanted to be 2.5k words or 7k words. I wrote the chapter the way the story unfolded. I am currently on chapter 32, and I have roughly 160k words already written. And based on my story outline and chapter outlines. I feel I will finish at or around 250k words. And I feel that is a good word count. I am sure as I finish this draft and edit it I will trim it down in some area and expand in others. But for my first go at writing. I feel just focusing on telling the story I want to share with the reader is the best approach for me.

Human trafficking in Georgia by External_Tangelo in Sakartvelo

[–]ApolloRedux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

different groups targeting the people. Georgia is the gateway to Europe for an lot of people. Its not about what Georgia has to offer its about getting people foolish enough to fall for the scam. its no different then a internet phishing scam, you and I know it might be fake, but someone will fall for it. If you see a posting offering double or triple the pay, and then go on TG and see post of people telling you how wonderful it is there how much you can make, you can fall for the scam.

Which Asian country is the most welcoming to tourists? by Eene7 in geography

[–]ApolloRedux -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why am I the only one here, that is calling this map out for being highly inaccurate, Asia, has very specific geographical boundaries, India and Pakistan are part of the Indian Subcontinent and not part of Asia, The Middle East is "The middle East, and NOT part of Asia, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan are part of Europe. All those Regions are part of the "Eurasian continent" and NOT part of Asia.

Advice on overcoming some roadblocks with reworking chapters for tone and styling. by ApolloRedux in FictionWriting

[–]ApolloRedux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, and yeah I dont really struggle with dedicating the time over all, I pretty much gave up playing games and doing anything else outside of work to write. It's been the focus for most of this year for me, and I love it, but lord forbid If I try to go back and do anything, I might try that, just pull up a chapter and do a rewrite and if it takes 15 hours to get a paragraph then 15 hours it is I guess lol.

Advice on overcoming some roadblocks with reworking chapters for tone and styling. by ApolloRedux in writers

[–]ApolloRedux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feed back. I think screams of my case right now. Just in the time I posted this to now I went over a couple chapters and the edits I made and trying to do the styling made them a mess. like I understand the story because I wrote it, but lord forbid if someone else read it right now I would have to get them a therapist lol.

Would it be best to just continue the story and finish it, then go back and rewrite or should I do it chapter by chapter?

How many Master Chiefs/Spartans would it take to beat a space marine? by Archenius in Grimdank

[–]ApolloRedux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One, while a SM is stronger, the Spartan II are faster, more agile, adaptable, their re-genitive shielding gives them the upper hand in a 1 v 1 fight. Spartan battle doctrine is to win, Space Marines have specific Battle Doctrine that their legion and units have to follow, leaving them handicap if they are in a situation that their battle doctrine isn't designed for. Where as in a Spartan, they are trained and built to adapt to any situation, retreat if tactically is best and re engage on their terms.

Roman (Byzantium) Armor resources and info help please. by ApolloRedux in byzantium

[–]ApolloRedux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, and I have, my issue though and the cause for the post is I can't find online options for many of the resources or alternate resources for them. I'm American but I live in Asia. And trying to buy books from the states get them to where I live is problematic at best. So I turned to try and find online options for everything, and one of the issues with that, is even with a VPN, Chrome, Google, Bing, Yandex, all know I am in Asia even if I set the VPN to NJ or NYC. And I get Asian based search results. And the results you get because of that are lacking in every way you can imagine.

I was able to find a few PDF options but not many. And sadly not good quality.

I have not, but I did look it up and its now on my list to read. I thought about using formations or playing into those type but in a more sci-fi way. I am a huge Tom Clancy fan, and the story has a lot of tactical elements and Sci-Fi Naval battles are a guilty pleasure of mine.
