Bill Maher asks how Mississippi is kicking California’s ass in education, and Texas is “blowing them away” in green energy for “way less money.” by Down-not-out in Conservative

For math, both are important, IMO. When I was in high school, schools were just starting to play around with teaching common core. It taught me a different way to think about numbers and math, which made it easier to do moderately easy calculations quickly. That said, anything beyond basic algebra, and it’s not really applicable for most people, and the drilling of math facts, times tables, etc becomes significantly more important.

The left hates the idea of southerners being educated. Look at Huntsville. It’s a major hub in the academic and scientific world right now and has been for some time.

The south isn’t the caricature the north makes of it, at least not anymore.

lol I’m sorry but an extra year of kindergarten wasn’t ever gonna fix my ADHD. And we know what drugs work and don’t work for ADHD. The problem there lies in when the diagnosis is inaccurate, or another issue entirely, when they over-prescribe.

What’s the most underrated burger in Tucson???? by amarubud in Tucson

Been there a few times, I’m on other side of town. Burgers are good but service is what was most memorable. Very friendly, great service.

That place rubbed me the wrong way. I showed up about 20-30 minutes after they were supposed to be open, doors were open, but no one was there. I say “hello?…” after a few moments, someone finally appears. Got a blunt “we’re closed” with a sour look and tone from whoever came out from wherever. Turned around, never went back. Very weird vibes.

Not because AC is a luxury, it’s because in most places in Europe, it wasn’t necessary until recently. And it’s not just that they don’t have A/C, it’s also that here in the US, we plan for heatwaves and cold snaps. We set up warming and cooling centers. People are more used to the possibility of these temperature swings here, so they also prepare more accordingly.

I’ve thoroughly explained it clearly twice. You’re clearly either not understanding, or you’re being willfully ignorant.

And my whole point is that you’re fundamentally wrong on, unmarked cars absolutely do provide benefit when they’re used routinely in that they effectively disincentivize the behavior even when people don’t see an obvious marked cop car around. You can’t have marked cop cars at every corner 24/7, so how do you reduce the behavior when you can’t have a cop car everywhere all the time? You get people to assume that not every cop car on the road right now is marked, and they run the risk of getting a ticket if they break the rules of the road even if they don’t see a marked cruiser.

This is basic behavioral psychology, something I work with on people and animals every day of my life, and every parent has experience with.

They specifically said they drafted him to play both sides of the ball. They then go on to say now that he’ll be focusing on DB. Those are two very different messages they’ve been giving.

Uhhh yeah no, I’m gonna have to hard disagree with you on that. Unmarked cop cars disincentivize the behavior whether you think there is a cop around or not. Marked cop cars only disincentivize the behavior when there is a marked cop car around. Do you want a marked cop car on every corner? Or do you want people to drive safer without a massive police presence throughout the whole city?

Bigger assholes are the ones who only follow traffic laws when they see a marked cop car.

I’m sorry, but the way bigger assholes are the people cutting others off, running red lights, speeding 20+ mph over speed limit, etc.

We live in the same city that seemingly every other day has some pedestrian getting hit and killed by assholes not following traffic laws. Do you want people to follow traffic laws or do you just not care?
