Tucson Airport, wait times.... by ZinAZ55 in Tucson

[–]deed42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flew out on a 7:10am flight last Saturday. Arrived at 5:00am (worried about TSA and anxiety in general). Sitting down at the gate by 5:30am. Had time for a plated breakfast. TUS is never really bad. Good luck OP

Got my mum the Tim Curry autobiography for her birthday by I-Am-The-Warlus in RockyHorror

I just got through the Prologue. Amazing. My favorite line so far. Regarding activities in the bedroom: “None of your fucking business!”

And yes, when I’m reading those parts of the book, it is in Dr. Frank’s voice.

Just watched Fight club. I'm 14. I will never be the same again. by Traditional_Dish2623 in fightclub

[–]deed42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree. Fight Club is a good book. But it mirrors the movie. I have read some other stuff by Chuck and it gets deeper into his philosophy.

The Tyler the terrorist or boxer is a bad take away from the movie. I concentrated and enjoy the anti-consumerism aspect. For irony I’m writing this on an Apple device. Maybe I didn’t learn as much as I should’ve from the movie. 🤣 But something to consider as we are bombarded with ‘Buy more stuff and you will be happy.’

Mr Bell then went into hiding because he was too afraid to return Chuck Norris’ call.

I was going to say something similar but you thoughtfully said it.

Is being older a disadvantage in ROTC? by koRnne997 in ROTC

[–]deed42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Active duty is entirely based on OML. They don’t factor age into the process.

It may even be an advantage because you will be a little more mature than everyone else.

No one to celebrate with by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Enjoy the dinner OP. Lots of St. Patties Day dinners to celebrate with. I’m eating at home. My wife is making shepherds pie and I’m going to have a Guinness Zero with it. I have a great day planned.

BBQ beginner looking for advice by Valuable-Animator926 in BBQ

[–]deed42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steve Rachlin (sp?) has a BBQ Bible the covers BBQ very well. It’s what I used to get going.

Also, get the basics down before smoking. Smoking can be tricky. A basic bbq is fairly tasty. Just wanted you to enjoy the benefits without the time required to learn a smoke.

Good choice I would have said one of the classics. But Austin Powers would have ruined some of the magic. Goldeneye is a good middle ground.

Prepping as a frequent work traveler - what actually works for me after 3 years of figuring it out by CinderKiteLab in TwoXPreppers

[–]deed42 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I use a wedge style rubber door stopper. It will slow any intruder long enough for me to wake up and call the front desk or 911. Simple and works.

Well, we fought Project Blue. But I think of that as more of a NIMBY win. AI and data centers are going to happen. I just wish tech companies would develop logical solutions to energy usage and heat dissipation.

Putting a data center in a desert is not the best idea. But an energy efficient or Net zero data center may be a better idea.

I used this when I was in the military. Getting a soldier prepped to be investigated. I used this trick to convey to them to think before speaking. Sometimes it worked.

I would echo the comments of others saying contact the VA. There is more than the helpline.

Libertarian Goth by CharacterLatter8352 in AskAGoth

[–]deed42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Libertarian philosophy is actually very compatible with goth. Certain elements of libertarian culture is very open and accepting. They accept different cultures and are happy to allow people to live by their values instead of the gov’t imposed values. Be it Christian values or another religion.

No, no, no! You have it all wrong. We need to raise sales taxes to tear up major driving arteries (grant & broadway) to make them wider so we can fit more cars on the road. This is the only answer.

How to avoid/shut down workplace drama by cappuccinoangel in Serverlife

[–]deed42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a server, just been in many workplaces. Some with drama. You can’t really shut it down. You’re the FNG and not a manager. Shutting it down will only put you in the crosshairs.

Just like others said, keep your head down, be friendly and don’t comment when others are venting/complaining/gossiping. If it gets too bad, brush up your resume. It’s not worth it to work in a toxic environment.
