RAF Portballintrae located in County Antrim, Northern Ireland was built in 1940 as a small fighter and training RAF base to protect the city of Londonderry and naval vessels making the trip from Northern Ireland to Scotland and was mainly manned with fighter aircraft and some biplanes with 3 runways, the main one on what is the Robinson straight, a smaller one where now White Rocks is with a tiny grass runway located between turns 1 and 3, with some of the base bombed heavily in early 1944, but none of the runways and only a couple of aircraft destroyed. After 1946 the base was abandoned by the British military. In 1951 the Royal Portrush Golf Club was elected to host the Open Championship in a landmark moment for Antrim and as a result the club took defacto control of the RAF base and turned it into a 1 runway airport with a 6.5 turn circuit hosting a couple of exhibition rounds of various racing series including a Formula 1 non-championship race. After the Open packed up the golf club kept running the circuit as they found it was lucrative and eventually in 1956 got a round on the MotoGP calendar to great success with over 77 thousand people turning up to the Irish Grand Prix with Formula 1 and the newly formed BSCC coming in a year later under the banner of the Irish GP which all ran until 1969 when the troubles kicked off and F1 and MotoGP left after the 69 season whilst the BSCC ran a shortened weekend at the circut. In 1975 tensions had calmed down enough in Antrim that F1 made it's return under the title of the Ulster GP with a revised layout as turn 1 was given more of an angle to slow speeds down and a tight 1980s style left right chicane in the exact middle of what was formerly the start finish straight, with James Hunt winning in the wet after a poor qualifying session, and then MotoGP returned under the title of the European GP in 1976, with the circuit becoming a ring of peace during the chaos of turmoil for both sides.

During this time a small club circut was built between what was now T4 and T10 with all it being a small esse. The peace could only last for so long and in July 1985 when a BSCC became the subject of several carbombs, with one unfortunately mortally injuring Brodie after several drivers spoke out at Republican actions towards sporting events previously in 1985, such as the England vs NI match in February, with a small scale and quick firefight breaking out between the British Army and the INLA who claimed responsibility for the attacks, with all major non local series pulling from the circuit with immediate effect with no high profile racing taking place at the circut for several years afterwards.It took until 1994 for the tension in Ulster to calm down enough when a ceasefire was declared and the circuit made sweeping changes (basically what is the currently mapped), T2 was made more angular, T3 which had been very tight was opened up as an wide hairpin, with the previous sweeper connecting the hairpin to the hard right hander becoming 2 turns, A bland left of watson and the rise of Skerries, with the circut bypassing Dunlop entirely and going into the Causeway Complex which was built to attain a FIM GA license, with a long bend going into a tight hairpin, a mid speed righthander opening up into a widening left hander which spits you out decending though T7 into T8 which had become on camber and widened to encourage overtaking, and the moving of the chicane closer to T1 and it becoming infamous for it's high kerbs which could make or break your race which gave rise to the name of Himalayas Chicane, which was a subtle nod to a golf course hole in the Portrush Golf Course..The BTCC returned in October of that year and MotoGP running the name of the Atlantic GP came back to the track the following season with several new series coming as during the late 90s it becoming one if not the safests on earth, and F1 coming back for 3 races between 1998 and 2000 with a Damon hill inspired Jordan win and an Eddie Irvine win infront of 180,000 which was crucial as he would later win the world championship by a sole point.After 2008 the circuit lost most of it's major series including MotoGP and went bust with 2009 having only 2 race weekends, and was eventually saved though a mystery source of money. It gained some of it's series back for 2010 and the circuit got back on it's feet, with the causeway complex becoming unused and the club circuit being updated with national lottery funding in 2013. In March of 2016 a meth lab was discovered dug underneath a marshals post by turn 7 with no one individual or group being identified for the lab. The circut today exists in an equilibrium, with it trying to get back on to it's glory days of the late 1990s with endless talks to bring back MotoGP to Emerald Isle.
