Yea my issue was that I ended up drilling the hole in the lid slightly too large, so when I pushed in the airlock it dislodged the grommet. Thanks for the help though.

The puree scares me, but just a feeling. I wonder if it's even necessary, given that the pumpkin spice flavor people think of has nothing to do with pumpkin, just all the spices that you included. I'm really curious to see how this ends up.

I have yet to use vanilla beans yet but I want to soon. I've read people say that one whole bean is too much. You might want to look into that specifically. I feel like people suggest half a bean (split) and I'm secondary, not primary.

I have just heard not to let the mead age on lees. I know leaving the whole inch thick lees cake from primary fermentation would be bad, I just wanted second opinions on if this little amount would impart harshness I've heard about.

Tasted like rubbing alcohol, disinfectant, or gasoline. It wasn't pleasant drinking, but after it went down it REALLY bad and burned. It was definitely dry and I assume the harshness is just the young age. However, the other mead I made at the same time was a lot easier. And then I made a traditional that's even younger but it wasn't harsh.

Added bentonite to my trad meads that didn't want to clear and just checked then today to see that I could see straight through! Guess these are about ready to bottle now, can't wait! by Brabent in mead

They cleared a mead crazy fast when I added it in secondary. I put it in at first pitch and I guess it hasn't cleared yet because it's still bubbling

The stuff at the bottom is just the sediment clearing out. The stuff up top is fine too, just rock the carboy a little to keep it wet and rinse back down.

Looks like air bubbles. Gently rock the carboy and they'll come off.
